Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2423: Chapter 2424: Gaining Spirit

Sa Tian thought of Bai Ruozhu’s prowess and restrained himself a bit, but still felt somewhat displeased.

”Lord Bai is too polite, we haven’t waited too long.”

Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and said, ”Also, it’s my fault for not informing Lord Sa Tian earlier. Last night, my husband suffered a recurrence of an old injury from a deep-sea monster bite, and everyone was busy until just past midnight before resting. Didn’t dare to wake him this morning.”

Upon hearing this, Sa Tian’s expression improved greatly, ”Do you need help finding a doctor? How is Lord Jiang now?”

Jiang Yichun, who had been keeping a dark face in the background, said indifferently: ”It isn’t a serious injury, but the deep-sea monster carried severe poison; we haven’t fully cleaned the poison, and the storm last night caused it to flare up again.”

He hadn’t discussed it with Bai Ruozhu, but they both understood each other’s intentions and easily continued the conversation.

Sa Tian transformed from displeasure to awe, ”You face such dangers at sea, I wrongly blamed you. How about Lord Jiang rest and recuperate for a few days, and we postpone the visit to Zhaoti Temple?”

Jiang Yichun and Bai Ruozhu quickly exchanged a glance, and Jiang Yichun nodded immediately, ”I’m feeling a bit unwell today, and a few days should be sufficient. Then we’ll have to trouble Lord Sa Tian again.”

”Of course, of course. Let me know if you need a doctor or any medicinal materials. The General instructed that we should host you properly, you must grant me the chance to fulfill my duty.” Sa Tian made a joke to lighten the mood significantly.

Once Sa Tian left, Lingzi asked puzzled, ”Why didn’t Madam tell him the truth? Perhaps General Chisong could help investigate.”

Bai Ruozhu shook her head, ”General Chisong won’t absolutely help us. If he knows there’s another faction targeting us, his attitude towards us may change.”

The world never lacks those who kick others when they’re down. Although they don’t affect the interests of any faction in Fusang, their identity still may attract coveting from others.

Having lived among the aristocrats for a long time, Lingzi understood quickly with a little restraint and asked no more.

After lunch, Bai Ruozhu went to prepare the Antidote for Jianqi, and in the evening, allowed Jianqi to take it, completely cleansing the poison this time.

In the following two days, nobody roamed about, staying in the Posthouse to arrange some things, until the day agreed with Sa Tian arrived, then they went out again.

Due to appearance concerns, Fang Luo was arranged to stay clear of the Fusang people. Jianqi was left by Bai Ruozhu to recuperate, while Yizi and Yuan Licheng stayed to watch the house. Ultimately, only Bai Ruozhu, Jiang Yichun, Gao Zhou, Tang Feng, Mo Beishan, and Qiu Zhiyi headed to Zhaoti Temple.

The closer they got to the Temple, the quieter it became, which Bai Ruozhu found odd. Wasn’t it said most Fusang people worship Buddhism? Shouldn’t this place be abuzz with incense?

Sa Tian’s words happened to answer their doubts.

”This route is specially opened; only those of the Emperor and the General may use it. The General feared abruptness to noble guests and specifically arranged for you to take this path. There is another route for the commoners; it’s very crowded.”

So, this is why.

At this moment, the sky suddenly echoed with cawing sounds, and those riding on horses looked up, their expressions changing slightly.

Along the road lined books, perched numerous giant ravens, the largest of them nearly forty to fifty centimeters long, emitting loud cries, yet it was a steady raven call.

In Zhongyuan customs, ravens symbolize bad luck, and they often appear in graveyards. Most people fear that encountering a raven means they’ll suffer misfortune or even lose their lives.

Fortunately, Bai Ruozhu was very calm and said, ”It’s said in Fusang legends that Yatagarasu symbolizes the Sun God, which in Fusang is a sign of auspiciousness, Lord Sa Tian, is that right?”

Sa Tian was very pleased, ”Lord Bai is quite knowledgeable about our Fusang culture, indeed it is so.”

The others also calmed down upon hearing this remark, temporarily putting aside ideas linking ravens to bad luck.

Soon the horse carriage reached the small gate beside the Temple, and everyone dismounted to find even more ravens around, some not fearing people as they wandered around the ground, and in a short while flew back onto the adjacent trees.

Bai Ruozhu felt these ravens were quite spiritual.

”Eh, are those Sika Deer?” Qiu Zhiyi raised his voice and pointed ahead.

Bai Ruozhu had not visited Nihong Country in previous life, but heard that some of their temples raised many Sika Deer, attracting tourists who feed them treats, and those deer had developed quite a Spirit.

It was unexpected that across time and space, there were so many Sika Deer here.

The deer that Qiu Zhiyi saw was very lively, running slowly over with thin legs, looking at everyone with bright, discerning eyes.

Sa Tian smiled, taking some dried food from his sleeve to feed the fawn, and said, ”It’s come to beg for food.”

Unexpectedly, after eating, the fawn suddenly bowed its head in gratitude to Sa Tian, making Bai Ruozhu want to laugh, guessing it was looking for more on the ground.

Sa Tian then fed it a little more, and after eating, it bowed again, making Bai Ruozhu believe it wasn’t merely searching the ground for food.

”Hey, the deer knows manners!” laughed Mo Beishan, reaching out to touch the Sika Deer’s head, but the fawn escaped nimbly, looking as if it refused to be touched.

Sa Tian handed some dried food to everyone, ”If you wish to feed the deer, use this. There are many more over there, and feeding the deer here is a kind act. There’s another area with even more deer, and pilgrims come daily to feed them.”

Chatting as they walked, the fawn perhaps felt upset about Sa Tian withholding food, grabbing his sleeve and tugging it, trying to pull his hand to its mouth.

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help laughing, breaking off a small piece of cracker to feed the fawn.

The fawn’s tongue was soft and moist, licking over Bai Ruozhu’s palm, making her feel ticklish and playful.

Indeed, after eating the dried food, the fawn immediately bowed respectfully to Bai Ruozhu, genuinely a deer with manners.

As everyone talked and walked forward, more Sika Deer appeared and gathered upon seeing food.

Everyone happily fed the deer, discovering they all exhibited manners after eating; simply having remarkable Spirit.

”Likely they’ve heard too much of Norito and Buddhist chanting,” remarked Sa Tian.

After finishing feeding, Bai Ruozhu and the others followed Sa Tian towards the backyard Buddha Hall, intending to meet the host.

The further they went in, the more Bai Ruozhu felt the ambiance of Danliang Country’s temples, involuntarily recalling Master Pudeng, feeling a tinge of sorrow.

At that moment, voices came from behind, prompting everyone to turn back instinctively, unexpectedly seeing She Zongyi leading some family members, appearing right where they had just entered.

”Wasn’t this path exclusively for the Emperor and General?” muttered Gao Zhou under his breath.

Bai Ruozhu narrowed her eyes, speaking quietly: ”We obtained General Chisong’s permission for this convenient path, others might get the Emperor’s approval too.”
