Chapter 2046: Chapter 2044: Gold-Eyed Man

Bai Ruozhu stopped in her tracks, suddenly feeling a bit scared, not daring to make a sound—not out of fear of that shadowy figure, but worried she might startle him, causing him to vanish into thin air like a wisp of smoke.

Who could that be? Judging by the silhouette, it seemed to be a man.

Bai Ruozhu thought it inappropriate to keep watching him like this, so she quietly stepped back, planning to turn and leave.

”Where did you come from?” A melodious voice suddenly sounded. The voice was pleasing to the ear but carried an air of antiquity.

She had to stop, turn around, and say, ”Danliang, to see my grandmother.” She pointed to the Diaojiao Building not far away.

The man nodded slightly, ”No wonder I haven’t seen you before.”

He was positioned slightly against the light, and she couldn’t see his features clearly, only felt that he seemed to be enveloped in a golden glow, as dazzling as the sun. But she knew that was an illusion; a moment ago, he seemed like a pale, solitary smoke, ready to disperse at any moment.

Yes, her impression was pale, not snow-white, perhaps due to the aura emanating from him.

”I’m Fen Chengxiu, and you?” The man asked, his voice clear.

”Flattery?” Bai Ruozhu thought the name quite strange.

”Phoenix’s ’Fen,’ promise’s ’Chengxiu’,” the man explained with a clear voice.

Bai Ruozhu was startled, ”Then you are part of Fen Jiu’s family? Are you his nephew?”

”We are family.” But not a nephew, Fen Chengxiu didn’t say the latter part.

Seeing it was someone she recognized, it didn’t seem right to leave, so she went over and greeted him politely, saying, ”Jiao Ling is my aunt, and Fen Jiu is going to be my uncle. We are kind of relatives.”

She tried to give him a friendly smile because she didn’t know many people since she had just arrived at the Jiuli Clan, and only Bi Tao had spoken to her, and she had looked down on them.

However, this Fen Chengxiu never showed such disdain; he knew she was an outsider, yet he had been amiably conversing with her, making her feel a bit fond of him.

”Hmm, that’s about right.” Fen Chengxiu smiled; for a moment, peach blossoms fluttered across his brows, and Bai Ruozhu, now at an angle not against the light, was surprised to discover that Fen Chengxiu’s eyes were golden!

If he were from a foreign clan, having blonde hair and blue or golden eyes would be normal, but this Fen Chengxiu had such black hair with such bright golden eyes, wasn’t this too unusual?

In her past life abroad, she had met many black-haired mixed heritage individuals, whose eye color wasn’t pure black, but none as brightly golden as this.

”Did I scare you?” he said, raising his hand to shield his eyes.

Bai Ruozhu silently chided herself for overreacting, quickly waving her hand, ”No, no, just thought your eyes are beautiful.”

Fen Chengxiu chuckled, ”Few people say that. They’re usually afraid to look me in the eye.”

”That’s because they don’t appreciate beauty,” Bai Ruozhu thought to herself, ancient people were just too superstitious, seeing someone different from themselves and thinking they’re a demon. If golden eyes made them afraid to look, they would certainly cry if they encountered someone with heterochromatic eyes.

In her past life, she’d met a foreign model whose eyes were different colors, one blue and one gray-green, like a Persian cat, enchanting enough for her to sneak a few more peeks.

Fen Chengxiu laughed, took two steps toward Bai Ruozhu; she could see his appearance clearly—it was still the first impression of pallor.

His pallor seemed as if he was suffering from a severe illness, yet she considered her medical skills decent, but couldn’t discern any ailment in Fen Chengxiu.

His features were exquisitely delicate, with the corners of his eyes slightly raised, adding a devilish charm, yet it was subdued by the pallor surrounding him.

Even those cornered eyes bore some resemblance to Fen Jiu’s, naturally, they’re family.

Bai Ruozhu felt she had been out for a while, so she nodded to Fen Chengxiu and said, ”I should get back to look after the children. Feel free to visit my grandmother’s place sometime.”

She said it as she left, but just then, Fen Chengxiu’s voice called after her, ”How long will you stay?”

”Not for too long, I suppose,” Bai Ruozhu replied, looking back.

Seeing Fen Chengxiu didn’t speak further, she quickly headed towards the Diaojiao Building.

Sure enough, she hadn’t been back long before Little Tiaotiao started fussing. She opened the diaper to find the child had pooped. She hurried to change the diaper, and over there, Bengbeng started crying—it wasn’t a poop, just wet.

Fortunately, Little Dengdeng had become sensible, even getting up to lend her a hand, or she would have been exhausted.

Outside the room, Bai Yihong was chatting with Jiao Yunyun, who listened attentively with a smile on her face, occasionally showing a surprised expression, sometimes breaking into laughter; she truly was a serene old lady.

Bai Ruozhu found herself quite fond of this grandmother, much better than the previous Liu Family.

At this point, Jiao Yunyun saw her, waved, and said, ”Where did you run off to? Your grandmother just gave a meeting gift to Zepei and his wife, and you weren’t here. Don’t you want it?”

Bai Ruozhu smiled and said, ”How could I not want something from grandma?”

Jiao Yunyun nodded with satisfaction, taking out a small box from her person and handed it to her, saying, ”I heard you like messing with herbs, you might like this herbal medicine.”

Bai Ruozhu took a look, startled to see it was a Seven-color Ganoderma. Ao Qi had only consumed a little back then and saved his life, and afterwards, his body had been healthier than most. This thing is indeed precious.

”Grandma, this is too precious, I can’t take it. You should keep it to nourish your body,” she said hurriedly.

Jiao Yunyun pushed her hand back, saying, ”It’s rare outside, but not impossible to gather in Jiuli, besides, my body can’t use this for nourishment; it would be a waste. Just take it.”

Bai Ruozhu, considering Jiao Yunyun’s situation, realized she might have already tried it before, so she didn’t refuse again and put the Seven-color Ganoderma away.

”By the way, I just ran into my uncle’s nephew in the Peach Forest. He somewhat resembles my uncle, just that his health seems not too good,” Bai Ruozhu said with a smile.

Fen Jiu looked puzzled, ”My nephew?”

He indeed had nephews but none were in the clan right now.

”He said his name is Fen Chengxiu, wearing all white, and his eyes are golden,” Bai Ruozhu said, noticing Fen Jiu’s expression, wondering if she had gotten it wrong.

”I asked if he was from the Fen Family, he said yes, so I thought he was your nephew, isn’t it so?”

Fen Jiu and Jiao Ling exchanged perplexed looks.

”There’s no one named Fen Chengxiu in the Fen family, nor anyone with golden eyes. Who would have golden eyes?” Fen Jiu said, ”Moreover, the ancestor of the Fen family is named Fen Chengxiu, so descendants should skip using the word ’Chengxiu’ to avoid disrespect to the most honored ancestor.”

Bai Ruozhu was even more surprised now, ”Could he have lied to me?”

”But there’s also no one with golden eyes in the clan,” Jiao Ling said, ”We should go and see.”

With that, she grabbed Bai Ruozhu, and they went out, with Fen Jiu following. The three entered the Peach Forest again, but saw no one, only the fallen peach blossoms scattering the ground.
