Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2012: Chapter 2011: Haunted House

In the Main Military Camp tent, Gao Deng took the opportunity of treating Jiang Yichun’s injuries to spend more time with his son, but Jiang Yichun’s personality was aloof. If he could respond to one out of ten sentences, it was already good enough. It made Gao Deng, as a father, feel very tired.

This time, Gao Deng spent a long time analyzing the situation in Qingzhou with Jiang Yichun, only for Jiang Yichun to not listen at all, suddenly mumbling, ”I wonder how far Ruozhu and the others have gotten.”

Gao Deng suddenly had the urge to hit his head against the wall; they’d always say that after a man marries, he forgets his mother, but in his house, even the biological father has become invisible.

The more he thought about it, the angrier he became. Bai Ruozhu, indeed, was his fellow townsman, but as soon as she came, she turned into a fortunate one loved by thousands, even snatching away his only son. How could the heavens be so unfair?

”Do you know everything about Ruozhu? Then do you know why she got to know and get close to me first?” Gao Deng couldn’t help but ask.

Jiang Yichun didn’t even lift an eyelid, ”Wasn’t it because you didn’t dare to reveal your identity, so you found a chance to get close to her? I remember once I appeared, and you got scared and ran off.” He spoke with a disdainful expression, just short of directly saying: Dad, you’re too lame.

Gao Deng’s mouth twitched; indeed, a child not raised by one’s side isn’t thoughtful enough.

But thinking about this, his expression dimmed a few shades. Over these years, he felt guilty towards his son, letting him suffer criticism at the age of twelve and even become the disciple of someone like Wu Yunfeng.

If he had known Jiang Yichun was living so miserably, he would rather have taken him back to Chengshui from the beginning, even if he had to face the deceptions at Chengshui Palace; at least his son would be by his side.

But thinking about it, Chengshui never lacked in royal blood, and even three princes had died unexpectedly; how could he ensure Jiang Yichun’s absolute safety?

Back then, he didn’t even have the freedom of choice, forced to be brought back by the old Emperor of Chengshui.

He sighed slightly; now twelve years have passed, and he is no longer under anyone’s control.

”Keep talking, you are from the same place as her?” Jiang Yichun suddenly asked.

Gao Deng was startled, his thoughts abruptly pulled back. He didn’t expect Jiang Yichun already knew Bai Ruozhu’s origins; it seems the young couple truly trusted each other without reservation.

”Yes, are you surprised?” Gao Deng instantly donned a proud smile, as if the bitterness in his heart never existed.

Jiang Yichun finally looked at him and said, ”Did you know her before? What is your place like?”

”I didn’t know her before, but her skills and some specialties are unique to my place, so I know she’s a fellow townsman. Hasn’t she told you about modern things?” Gao Deng asked.

”She talked about some things, like how travel is more convenient with airplanes, trains, and cars, taking less than four hours from the north to the south by plane.” Jiang Yichun’s eyes gradually brightened, and he started talking more.

”Yeah, what I least like about being here is going out; it’s just too inconvenient to travel,” Gao Deng complained.

”What else, tell me more.” Jiang Yichun missed Bai Ruozhu intensely, the kind of longing that was as painful as being gnawed at the bones. He wished to see her immediately, but now that he couldn’t see her in person, he could only listen to things related to her to suppress his emotions.

Gao Deng secretly applauded in his heart, saying, look, finally, his son needed him for something; listening to him talk about modern things, who knows how much his son would admire him.

He rattled off about his past life as a doctor, Bai Ruozhu being a dentist, and what modern society is like.

Jiang Yichun listened very attentively, but as he listened, he suddenly frowned, ”You said that where you are from, divorce is common, is it the same as separation?”

”Yes, in modern times, gender equality is emphasized, so don’t blame dad for not reminding you, never suppress Ruozhu with a macho attitude, modern women don’t like that. So where we are from, there’s no such thing as abandoning a wife; if a couple can’t go on, they divorce, and monogamy is required. However, many men, once they have money, find mistresses or keep a second wife on the side, and it ends either in the home turning tumultuous, or the wife compromises, turning a blind eye, but the love and trust between the couple disappear.” Gao Deng said.

Jiang Yichun muttered, ”No wonder she said from the start that she wanted one partner for life; if I had a second thought, she would separate from me.”

Gao Deng started laughing heartily; you aren’t arrogant, are you? There’s still someone who can manage you. But soon, his face fell again, wasn’t the one being managed his son? Truly advantageous for that girl Ruozhu!

...

Meanwhile, trapped by the heavy rain, Bai Ruozhu was also missing Jiang Yichun from afar. They’d been staying at the Inn for two days now, and the rain wouldn’t stop. If this continued, the road ahead would be hard to travel.

Finally, by the next day’s evening, the rain subsided, and judging by the sky’s color, it should clear up the following day.

Bai Ruozhu estimated that once the sun had dried the muddy road a bit, they could continue their journey, which would probably take another day.

”Ruozhu, let’s go find something to eat!” Si Yihuan ran over to Bai Ruozhu, her beautiful eyes sparkling.

Bai Ruozhu was pulled by her arm and walked outside. Upon reaching the staircase, they saw her second brother, and Bai Ruozhu thought for a moment and said, ”Second brother, my second sister-in-law and I are going crazy being stuck in here, we’re going out to find something delicious, want to join us?”

Unexpectedly, Bai Zepei rubbed his neck and said, ”Alright, my neck is sore from reading too much these days, it’s time to take a walk.”

Once Bai Zepei joined them, Bai Ruozhu realized she had been foolish. By bringing her second brother along, hadn’t she made herself a super dazzling third wheel?

But now she couldn’t suddenly back out, so she had to pretend she didn’t know her presence was overly bright.

Fortunately, Si Yihuan wasn’t clingy with Bai Zepei, dealing with him quite calmly, persistently holding Bai Ruozhu’s arm, making Bai Ruozhu feel less awkward. Instead, it seemed her second brother turned into the third wheel.

Finally, the three of them found a nice little dimsum shop and took a seat.

”Did you hear? There’s ghost trouble again at Pan Residence. Even last night’s heavy rain couldn’t drown out the wailing—it was terrifying.” A middle-aged man at a nearby table whispered to his friend.

”Can’t you skip patrolling near Pan Residence in the future? I doubt anyone would fault you for it.” A friend advised.

The night watchman shivered and said, ”Either way, I won’t go near there tonight, or I’ll get scared sick.”

The three of them exchanged glances. Though curious, they didn’t inquire further. They were just passing through; they would leave the next day or the following. Not every matter was theirs to meddle in, and for ghost-busting, it was better to find a monk or a Daoist.

They ate some simple dimsum and packed a lot to take back for Bai Yihong and the others.

The night passed uneventfully. In the morning, Jianqi hurriedly reported, ”Master, we’ve lost one cart of goods.”
