Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2007: Chapter 2006: Scolded Awake

”Why didn’t you wake me up?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

”Miss Ji An said not to wake you, mentioning that you would be waking soon anyway, so as not to disrupt your rest. I thought you have been quite tired lately,” Min Ju explained.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, got up and dressed, asked Min Ju to simply arrange her hair in a bun, and then went to the Main Hall to meet Ji An.

Ji An stood up and bow respectfully, ”Master Bai, sorry to disturb you.”

Bai Ruozhu laughed lightly and helped her, ”No need to be so formal, when we meet privately, calling me by my name is fine, or you can call me sister.”

Ji An replied straightforwardly, ”Alright, Sister Ruozhu.”

Bai Ruozhu took her wrist to check her pulse. Ji An’s allergy had subsided by now, her complexion was rosy, revealing her original features. Bai Ruozhu then noticed she had a sharp oval face paired with large almond-shaped eyes, presenting an innocent, childlike look.

No wonder Ma Linglong took her as a scapegoat; perhaps part of the reason was she happened to be at the bride School, and another was her beauty which incited Ma Linglong’s jealousy.

”I’m planning to return to School in a few days for class lessons, sorry for causing trouble for you, Sister Ruozhu,” Ji An said somewhat shyly.

”It’s not your fault, you were also a victim.” Bai Ruozhu pulled her to sit down and asked Min Ju to bring tea, then continued, ”It’s good for women to learn more skills, to have more security after marriage. If you can study pharmacology, do so; not just to guard against anyone, but to help with minor ailments in your family.”

Ji An quickly nodded, ”You’re right, I’ll mention it to my mother when I return.”

Bai Ruozhu noticed she spoke with more confidence than before, thinking her situation at the Ji Family had improved quite a bit.

”By the way, have you heard that Ma Linglong was rescued? What does Ji Bao think about it?” Bai Ruozhu asked.

Worry flashed in Ji An’s eyes, ”I heard about it. Actually, I’m a bit scared she’ll come back to trouble me. Don’t laugh at me, Sister Ruozhu, I even had a nightmare about it last night. My third brother didn’t say much after learning about it; he just locked himself in the study room reading. I guess he isn’t feeling well, and I’m worried Ma Linglong got involved with someone else.”

”Don’t worry, she’d be too busy escaping to dare come back for trouble. Ji Bao probably just needs some days to move on slowly. He’s a devoted person, but it depends on whether someone is worth his efforts.” Bai Ruozhu did not mention the issue of the poisonous insects, as the Ji Family were ordinary people and knowing would not be good.

Ji An nodded, ”My father also said not to persuade him, the more we bring it up, the harder it is for him to forget. My mother said they will find a virtuous woman for him next year.”

Bai Ruozhu pursed her lips and smiled, she found Ji Bao’s situation quite difficult to resolve.

”Sister Ruozhu, if someday you can cure my brother’s illness, please help him, will you?” Ji An suddenly said earnestly.

”Sure, if I can treat him, I’ll definitely help.” Bai Ruozhu nodded in agreement.

”Thank you. If you ever need anything from us in the future, we’ll offer our full support,” Ji An said, perhaps it was Ji Min instructing her to say this.

Bai Ruozhu nodded, ”Alright.”

Unexpectedly, after sending Ji An off, Ji Bao appeared shortly thereafter, clearly not known to the Ji Family that he would come looking for her.

Just over half a month had passed, yet Ji Bao looked much thinner, not disheveled but with a clean-shaven beard, though with dark circles and sunken cheeks, he gave off a feeling of desolation.

”Master Bai, I’ve come unexpectedly and I apologize for troubling you,” Ji Bao bowed earnestly, his attitude extremely respectful.

”No need for such politeness, Master Ji,” Bai Ruozhu returned the bow.

Ji Bao didn’t withdraw his posture, continuing: ”I was previously bewildered, and often spoke disrespectfully, today I sincerely apologize to Master Bai, and also thank you for your help.”

His eyes indeed showed guilt, and his expression was sincere, he truly understood his mistake.

Bai Ruozhu nodded secretly, Ji Bao was a scholar with a frank and open mind.

”I understand, don’t keep it in your heart. Just live well in the future, and don’t let your family worry about you anymore,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Ji Bao’s gaze dimmed, ”Master Bai is right.”

Bai Ruozhu glared at him, ”What kind of attitude is this? Look what you’ve become? Are you really unhappy, and is it worth it for such a woman? Can’t you tell who your real family is? You’re hurt for such a woman, yet your parents worry sleeplessly for you each night.”

Ji Bao didn’t expect Bai Ruozhu to suddenly scold him; he stood dumbfounded, but then images of his father’s sighs surfaced in his mind, as if the gray hairs at his father’s temples increased. And his mother’s eyes were always red, with her thin face.

He, as their son, was only focused on his own sorrow and neglected to care about them, he utterly failed as a child!

”Master Bai is right, I won’t be like this anymore.” After understanding everything, Ji Bao straightened his posture and gathered his spirits.

Once Ji Bao bade farewell and left, Bai Ruozhu shook her head with a smile, thinking she really had been too kind-hearted, but fortunately Ji Bao was receptive, otherwise she truly would be meddling in others’ business unnecessarily.

Returning to the Yard, Bai Ruozhu saw Nanny Zhang guarding at the Door. She approached and asked, ”Is Dengdeng inside? Why don’t you go in?”

Nanny Zhang smiled and made a hush motion, ”Madam, the young master is inside drawing, he says it’s a secret message for you, and wants me to guard the door so you can’t see.”

Bai Ruozhu couldn’t help but laugh, as if she were eager to see it, let his father figure it out himself.

With that, she returned to the Room, quietly entered the Space inside, where the fruit on the tree was fully ripe. She found a jade box to store and separate the fruit, preparing to make more pills.

Looking at the bare tree, she began to worry again, unsure when it would bear fruit next.

Just then, Xiaohei came over, holding a fluffy black rabbit in its mouth. Bai Ruozhu took the rabbit and asked, ”Do you want me to roast and eat it?”

Xiaohei shook its large Head and communicated with Bai Ruozhu, indicating it wanted her to give it to Little Dengdeng to play with.

”Haha, you care for Dengdeng so much.” Bai Ruozhu laughed and patted Xiaohei’s big Head.

Immediately, Bai Ruozhu took the black rabbit out and gave it to Dengdeng to play with.

”Mom, where did this rabbit come from?” Little Dengdeng’s eyes brightened.

”Xiaohei caught it for you, saying it’s a gift for you to play with,” Bai Ruozhu said.

Little Dengdeng’s eyes turned into crescent moons, ”Xiaohei is really nice to me.”

At this time, the black rabbit jumped on the ground, Little Dengdeng also crouched down and learned to jump like the rabbit. The black rabbit seemed to have some Spirit, it didn’t run away, but joined in play with Dengdeng.

From time to time, the Yard resonated with the son’s bell-like laughter, making everyone’s eyes crinkle with smiles. Bai Ruozhu stood nearby, her eyes filled with gentle laughter. What a wonderful quiet life this was, only regretting that he was not by her side.
