Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2003: Chapter 2002: Framed

At this moment, a military doctor arrived and carefully examined Yue Lin’s situation, saying, ”Miss Yue died instantly from her heart and lungs rupturing.”

”Look, what else could have ruptured them if it wasn’t his inner strength?” Yue Shan roared, then began to cry loudly, ”Lin’er, my poor Lin’er, she was only eighteen, and she’s gone just like that. I only had one daughter!”

Yue Shan had three sons but only one daughter, Yue Lin, and she was the youngest, which made her especially cherished by him.

”Was Miss Yue’s heart and lungs shattered by inner strength?” the emperor asked.

The military doctor sensed something was wrong and dared not speak recklessly. He stammered, ”This lowly subject’s medical skills are inadequate to make an accurate judgment. It would be better to ask the Medical Saint for assistance.”

”Yes, go and ask the Medical Saint,” Shen Liushan quickly said.

Very soon, Gao Deng was brought over. On the way, he had already grasped the situation, feeling both anxious and furious. In this great army, someone dared to plot against his son; it was truly lawless!

He bowed to the emperor and Shen Liushan, then began to examine Yue Lin’s body, his brow slightly furrowing shortly after.

Yue Lin’s heart and lungs indeed ruptured in an instant, and there were no previous injuries or any issues with her heart and lungs before.

Moreover, Yue Lin was in good health and should not have died suddenly like this.

But Gao Deng believed in his son more. He thought carefully, ”Miss Yue’s heart and lungs did rupture instantly, but if it was Jiang’s excessive force, the body surface he hit would definitely show bruises. Otherwise, shattering the heart and lungs from a distance requires extremely deep inner strength and technique. Master Yue, why not have someone check if Miss Yue has any signs of heavy bruising?”

Yue Shan frowned. Though his daughter was dead, it was inappropriate for him, as her father, to check her body.

After thinking it over, he pointed to Yue Lin’s maid, who was brought in from outside the tent, and said, ”You check the young lady.”

The white cloth was pulled up, blocking the view of others, and the maid walked in, trembling.

The maid was a bit timid. Seeing the young lady already dead, her hands shook so much she couldn’t manage, making Yue Shan curse angrily outside for quite a while.

”Master, Miss’s chest shows no bruising,” the maid said with a trembling voice.

Gao Deng exhaled a sigh of relief and gave Jiang Yichun a reassuring glance.

”However...” the maid’s voice rang out again.

”However what? Speak without stammering!” Yue Shan jumped up in anger. He was quick-tempered and emotional, evident from how he wept for his daughter.

”There are very small red spots on the young lady’s chest, not very obvious. I almost missed them,” the maid added.

This time Yue Shan was really worried and rushed in, looking with a stern face. Indeed, the maid was not lying; there were no bruises, just a few very faint small red spots, resembling needle pricks but very light.

Gao Deng squinted and said, ”Report to the emperor, I’ve heard of a poison that can weaken the heart and lungs. In severe cases, the poisoned person could have their heart and lungs rupture just from a fall.”

”Did Miss Yue get poisoned by this?” Tang Yin hastily asked.

”I haven’t examined thoroughly, so it’s not certain yet,” Gao Deng replied.

Yue Shan gritted his teeth. He didn’t want others to see his daughter’s body but also didn’t want her death to remain a mystery. Finally, he resolutely said, ”Please have the Medical Saint examine my daughter.”

Gao Deng responded and went inside the partition. Under Yue Shan’s watchful eyes, he examined Yue Lin’s body.

”Has Miss Yue been unusually thirsty these past few days, drinking more water than usual?” Gao Deng asked.

The maid beside him thought for a moment and said, ”Last night the young lady asked for tea twice. I thought it was due to the dry weather.”

”Has Miss Yue been needing help to get up in the morning, feeling dizzy upon waking?” Gao Deng asked again.

Before the maid could answer, Yue Shan urgently asked, ”Are these symptoms of poisoning?”

Gao Deng nodded, ”This poison damages the heart and lungs, most noticeably causing thirst, dizziness, and a racing heart upon waking, even some instability when standing. But it quickly subsides, so it goes unnoticed.”

The maid covered her mouth. ”The morning before yesterday, the young lady almost fell over while washing, knocking over the basin. She said she was groggy from sleep, and later claimed her body was fine, saying there was no need to see a doctor.”

Yue Shan, in anger, grabbed the maid by the collar, ”You fool, why didn’t you report to me sooner? If not for your dereliction, how could Lin’er die?”

The maid was grasped so tightly she could hardly breathe, and Gao Deng, frowning beside them, reminded, ”Master Yue, stay calm. The culprit hasn’t been identified yet, and many questions need to be asked of this maid.”

Only then did Yue Shan release the maid, who fell to the ground crying, ”Master, once the culprit is found, I’m willing to follow Miss to her grave.”

Outside, Tang Yin breathed a sigh of relief but soon looked even graver. There was a spy within the army, capable of poisoning Yue Lin; wouldn’t they be able to poison others too?

In an instant, everyone was in a state of panic. Shen Liushan, gritting his teeth, said, ”Emperor, I request permission to investigate this matter. We must not allow such disasters to infiltrate the army.”

”Marshal Shen, I’ll leave it to you,” Tang Yin nodded in agreement.

Yue Shan came out from behind the partition and suddenly threw a punch at Jiang Yichun. Jiang Yichun could have dodged but chose to take the hit with gritted teeth.

”Even if my daughter was poisoned, without Jiang Yichun’s strike, she might not have died, perhaps still having a chance for an antidote. Jiang Yichun, I, Yue Shan, will remember you!” Yue Shan said fiercely.

Blood trickled from the corner of Jiang Yichun’s mouth, and he cupped his fists in salute to Yue Shan, ”I apologize to Master Yue and Miss Yue.”

Tang Yin opened his mouth but ultimately closed it. If he spoke now, the enraged Yue Shan might perceive bias in the king’s heart, potentially exacerbating his grievances over this matter. Jiang Yichun was willing to take Yue Shan’s punch to calm things down and ensure a smoother resolution.

Yue Shan looked again at his daughter’s body, began to cry, then picked up Yue Lin and exited the tent without looking back.

Gao Deng went over and handed Jiang Yichun a pill, ”For treating internal injuries, with the battle imminent, hurry and recover.”

Jiang Yichun took the medicine, showing no visible emotion, but Gao Deng knew his mood was far from good.

”Yichun, go rest. You’ve been framed in this matter, and Marshal Shen will get to the bottom of it,” Tang Yin instructed.

”Thank you for your understanding, Your Majesty,” Jiang Yichun saluted and left, returning to his own tent.

Gao Deng followed, speaking with some helplessness, ”Who do you think it could be?”

”If it’s not someone from King Rui, then it’s someone in the army jealous of my high position,” Jiang Yichun said coldly.

”Enough. Let Shen Liushan investigate. If in the end, you’re still blamed, I’d rather quit as a partial general! You can come back to Chengshui with me; life will be good too,” Gao Deng said softly.

Jiang Yichun smiled faintly, ”Chengshui is in constant turmoil; are you sure life would be good?”
