Chapter 2005: Chapter 2004: Ma Linglong Is Abducted

Elder Su fell silent, but his expression was extremely conflicted. Seeing him like this, the anger in Bai Ruozhu’s heart dissipated.

Thinking from another angle, if it were someone she particularly trusted and admired, she would also find it difficult to accept.

Finally, Elder Su returned sullenly with Zu Mei. On the way, Zu Mei said, ”Elder Su, although I didn’t witness the great elder attacking Wei Yu, thinking about the situation at the time, indeed only the great elder said Wei Yu practiced evil techniques, suddenly went to attack him, and Wei Yu injured many clansmen and fled with the child. But if he were a great demon who could endure for a hundred years, would he attack the great elder while his strength hadn’t recovered? Knowing well that he couldn’t harm the great elder, wouldn’t that be foolish to expose himself?”

Seeing Elder Su’s dazed expression, she sighed and continued, ”Wouldn’t he be better off hiding, waiting for the poisonous insect to mature to increase his strength before attacking the great elder? I have no opinion on the great elder, but when your aunt Wei died so miserably, she was kind and even gave me materials for making mechanisms, and just ended her life publicly...”

Zu Mei’s eyes reddened as she spoke. She had been present when Wei Yu fled and once witnessed Wei Yu’s mother commit suicide to apologize. Thus, seeing it again in the illusory realm made it impossible for her not to feel saddened.

Elder Su sighed heavily, ”Don’t say any more. When we return to the clan this time, I will ask the great elder. Even if it was his mistake back then, I think it was unintentional.”

”If we follow what the great elder requires of us, wrong is wrong.” Zu Mei said unceremoniously.

Elder Su said no more, feeling even heavier.

Bai Ruozhu and the others were indeed exhausted from this outing, and it took them three days of rest to regain some spirit.

Then a message arrived: Ma Linglong had been abducted on the way to the border.

”Could it be that Ma Tongfang arranged for someone to rescue her? I’ve heard he’s very protective, and since the Ma Family has few people, he takes great care of the clan’s children and grandchildren.” Bai Ruozhu asked after hearing Jianqi’s report.

”It probably isn’t. The Commerce Association found no traces of Ma Tongfang sending people. Moreover, only one person seems to have attacked the government soldiers and taken Ma Linglong.” Jianqi said.

For some reason, Bai Ruozhu’s mind conjured an image of Gufeng wearing a black cloak with a large black hood, bugs wriggling under his cloak.

”Could it be Gufeng?” she said, ”Though Gufeng has no connection with Ma Linglong, he was once entangled with Ma Linglong when Saihan had the Phoenix Poisonous Insect. And Ma Linglong also carries the Fen Gu’s poison. Could it be that Gufeng needs Ma Linglong for nourishment?”

Jianqi’s face showed some embarrassment. Speaking directly of such things as nourishment was inappropriate, especially when the master was a woman.

Bai Ruozhu, not realizing her ”boldness” annoyed her subordinates, continued, ”Regardless of the accuracy of our guesses, we can’t allow Wei Yu to grow stronger. He’s already formidable without the Fen Gu mature, and now that he’s allied with King Rui and has his support, who knows how quickly he’ll advance.”

”Master, you needn’t worry too much. King Rui won’t let him become too powerful.” Jianqi said in a low voice.

Bai Ruozhu instantly understood Jianqi’s meaning. Someone like Gufeng is a powerful ally but a difficult subordinate to control, with considerable ambition, and King Rui would also be on guard against him.

By afternoon, Bai Ruozhu informed Jiao Ling and others of Ma Linglong’s abduction, explaining the previous entanglements between Jiao Ling and Gufeng. After listening, Jiao Ling said with a very unpleasant expression, ”We must quickly deal with Gufeng, we can’t allow him to continue causing harm.”

Though she hated Wei Yu for over a decade, knowing that Wei Yu was harmed by Gufeng, she felt more sympathy and reluctance towards him.

Thinking about how Gufeng was still ruining his body, she couldn’t bear it more in her heart.

”Last time, with so many people, we couldn’t keep him. We need a way to restrain him, perhaps needing the Jiuli Clan’s help.” Bai Ruozhu said, ”His ultimate goal is to destroy the Jiuli Clan, and I don’t think the Jiuli will sit idly by.”

Jiao Ling nodded, ”I want to set off to return to Jiuli soon, and Elder Su is also eager to return.”

”Okay, I’ll discuss it with my parents and see what they think.” Bai Ruozhu said.

After Bai Ruozhu left, Jiao Ling turned her head to find Fen Jiu seemingly lost in thought.

”Fen Jiu, I’m sorry.” Jiao Ling approached and took Fen Jiu’s hand.

Fen Jiu came back to his senses and smiled, ”Why apologize? I understand your feelings. It’s been hard on you.”

Jiao Ling bit her lip, ”I’m just afraid you might feel bad.”

Fen Jiu held her in his arms, ”I’m just distressed for you.”

”You...” Jiao Ling couldn’t help but laugh, feeling much lighter inside.

Bai Ruozhu went to find her parents to discuss the journey. Bai Yihong and Lin Ping’er immediately agreed. This trip had been decided, and Bai Yihong also wanted to see his mother. Besides, Bai Zepei was assigned the task of inspecting the Southwest, which couldn’t be delayed.

The three of them discussed who to bring along for the journey. After talking for a long time, Bai Ruozhu suddenly realized it had gotten dark outside.

She slapped her forehead, ”Pregnancy makes you silly for three years; I had called Chenfeng to see me today and completely forgot. He’s probably been waiting for half the day. Dad, Mom, you keep talking; I’ll go back to the yard.”

Chenfeng’s arm still needed regular needle treatment, now once a month. Bai Ruozhu planned to take him to Jiuli to seek help from the Jiuli people, so this time she had him return to the Bai Residence, and he would stay at the residence to prepare to depart with them.

”Alright, go quickly, don’t delay important matters,” Lin Ping’er said.

When Bai Ruozhu rushed back to the yard, she didn’t see Chenfeng. The maid Min Xiang said, ”Guard Chen came to find you earlier. I said you went to the aunt’s yard. Did you miss each other?”

”I later went to my parents; he’s probably still at my aunt’s. I’ll go there.” Bai Ruozhu walked a couple of steps, then turned back to Min Xiang with a smile, ”By the way, Chenfeng’s surname isn’t Chen.”

Min Xiang was stunned, then laughed, ”It’s the servant’s misunderstanding.”

Bai Ruozhu walked towards Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu’s yard, and as she approached the gate, she saw Chenfeng crouching there, and next to him was Lanlan, soaking in the medicine vat.

”Lanlan, the sun has set; you’ve had enough sunbathing, haven’t you? I’ll move you back to your place, or your parents might be upset with me when they return.” Chenfeng was squatting rather pitifully, while Lanlan looked down at him, scrunched her nose, and said, ”It’s stuffy inside. I finally got a breath of fresh air, all thanks to your great strength! Thank you!”

Chenfeng was a bit anxious, ”The lady should be back in the yard. I need to see her; let me move you back first.”
