Abandoned Woman Busy Farming

Chapter 2009: Chapter 2008: Things That Should and Shouldn’t Be Said

Bai Ruozhu felt a jolt in her heart, put down the letter, and rushed out of the Commerce Branch.

How could Achun be injured? No, she had to go see him!

But after a few steps, she stopped again. Now they were on their way to Jiuli, and the journey ahead might be fraught with danger. How could she leave her parents and three children behind and go by herself?

Especially with the three children, even though Jiao Ling and Fen Jiu could help take care of them, if something happened, how could they ensure their safety?

She bit her lip, trying to calm herself down. She was worried about Achun and felt sorry for him getting hurt repeatedly, but she couldn’t leave right now.

She took a few deep breaths, continuously comforting herself. Gao Deng said it wasn’t serious, so the situation might even out. The Yue Family wouldn’t keep going endlessly, would they?

She was just a bit puzzled about how formidable that Yue Lin’s sworn sister was to ambush Achun like that?

...

In the main military camp tent, Jiang Yichun lay pale. Gao Deng checked his pulse, then carefully placed his hand back under the blanket.

”Don’t worry, I wrote to Ruozhu what needed to be said and left out what shouldn’t be mentioned. What’s there to brood about?” Gao Deng wanted to leave, but was a bit frustrated. Why did it feel like he was being treated worse than a grandson when he was supposed to be the elder?

Jiang Yichun said nothing and didn’t even look at him, clearly still angry.

Gao Deng glared, wanting to lash out at him, but remembered his injuries and held back.

”Fine, you keep being stubborn, I’ll write to Ruozhu right now!” Gao Deng said deliberately.

Sure enough, Jiang Yichun turned his head to look at him, ”If you tell her anything inappropriate again, don’t blame me for not recognizing you as my father!”

After saying it, he felt it was a bit harsh, and added, ”Why tell her and make her worry? She’s on the way to Jiuli now and can’t leave her family and children to come here. Isn’t this just causing her distress?”

Gao Deng pulled a face, ”I think Ruozhu has the right to know.”

Jiang Yichun was momentarily stunned, then closed his eyes in some exhaustion. Gao Deng sighed and walked out with large strides.

...

Bai Ruozhu circled around after leaving the Commerce Association main gate and hurried back.

She borrowed some paper currency to write letters to Gao Deng and Jiang Yichun and sent some newly made red pills to replenish qi and blood through a merchant.

After doing these, she felt a bit more at ease and walked back to the temporary inn with a somewhat heavy heart.

By now, it was completely dark outside, and a strong wind was blowing. Someone shouted, ”It’s snowing, the first snow of the year! A good sign for a bountiful year!”

Bai Ruozhu looked out the window, indeed seeing a few flakes of light snow. She tightened her jacket and added a blanket for the children, fearing it would be quite cold when they set out in the morning.

Jiao Ling noticed her return so late and came over to inquire. Bai Ruozhu didn’t mention Gao Deng’s letter to Jiao Ling. She didn’t plan to tell the family to avoid making them worry as well. Just traveling was already hard enough for them.

About ten days later, Jiang Yichun received Bai Ruozhu’s medicine and letter. After taking the medicine, he immediately felt his qi and blood solidifying a lot, and the previous deficiency improved significantly.

Gao Deng clicked his tongue in wonder, ”Where did this girl get such good stuff? It’s really extraordinary.”

Jiang Yichun’s expression softened a bit, ”Ruozhu is a genius when it comes to pharmacology.”

Gao Deng curled his lip, ”Clearly it’s toxicology.”

Jiang Yichun didn’t argue with him. After all, poison could also be medicine.

Footsteps were heard outside, followed by the guard’s voice, ”Miss Chao, General Jiang is resting and instructed not to receive guests.”

”Give him this medicine as a little apology from me.” The woman said and left.

Gao Deng then came out of the tent, took the medicine bottle, and returned.

”Do you think this Chao Xiangman has a screw loose? She used to say she wanted to kill you to avenge Yue Lin, and now she’s offering apologies? Kill someone and then just say sorry?” Gao Deng grumbled in discontent.

He opened the medicine bottle to sniff it, then tossed it aside.

”It’s also for replenishing qi and blood, but nowhere near as good as what your wife sent.”

Jiang Yichun’s face softened a little, ”Ruozhu’s medicine is naturally the best.”

Gao Deng couldn’t help but laugh. That statement had two meanings; on one hand, the medicine was indeed better than others. On the other, in his heart, no other medicine compared to Ruozhu’s.

...

On Bai Ruozhu’s end, the convoy had been traveling for half a month, reaching the Jiangnan region.

The south was warmer than the north, so the people didn’t feel cold as they traveled, but the southern humidity made the Bai family members, accustomed to the dry climate of Beiyu City, feel somewhat uncomfortable.

Luckily, Bai Ruozhu had made some medicine to dispel moisture, allowing everyone to take a bit and avoid falling ill from acclimatization issues.

Every city she reached, she would inquire at the Commerce Association. Even though she knew Achun’s letter wouldn’t arrive so soon, she didn’t want to miss any news.

The further south she went, the further the distance from Achun became, and the longer it would take for a letter to arrive.

Additionally, she heard from the Commerce Association that the army had already engaged in combat with King Rui’s troops in Qingzhou. The Qingzhou army was once controlled by the Yang Family. After Yang Tianhua’s death, there were still many of the Yang Family’s roots within. Before the palace coup, King Rui had secretly absorbed the Qingzhou army into his fold.

It was said that the emperor refrained from using fire arrows to attack the city for the safety of the citizens, greatly slowing the siege process. But many in the army supported the emperor’s decision.

This battle was not against outsiders; those they were fighting were all Danliang Country’s people, and the city’s residents were also Danliang citizens. No one wanted the rebel army to become a slaughter force.

When Bai Ruozhu received these messages, she nodded repeatedly. Tang Yin and the others were a bit soft-hearted but were decent rulers.

”Ruozhu, I finally found you. I just discovered a place with delicious drunken crabs. Hurry, I’ll take you there to eat!” Si Yihuan’s voice came from behind. Bai Ruozhu smiled, thanked the people at the Commerce Association, and turned to leave.

The two linked arms familiarly as they walked and chatted.

”You, all you think about is eating. If my second brother knew, wouldn’t he find you troublesome?” Bai Ruozhu teased her with a smile.

Si Yihuan wasn’t angry; she replied with a grin, ”You think he doesn’t know? He said people should have a hobby, and mine is eating.”

Bai Ruozhu burst out laughing, ”Enjoy it then. It’s rare to marry my second brother, such an understanding man. If it were another family, you wouldn’t be able to take a few more bites of your favorite dish at a meal, and you’d suffer for liking food.”

”Yes, yes, enough talk. I just ate one and came to find you. How’s that? Am I considerate? Hurry up, the place sells out quickly, and we’ll be left with nothing if we’re late.” Si Yihuan tugged Bai Ruozhu along eagerly.

Bai Ruozhu smiled with pursed lips; her second sister-in-law was quite a character.

Originally, her second brother didn’t plan to take her south, and even discussed with her, saying the journey was arduous, and she should stay home instead.
