Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

”Is it inconvenient to answer? Then I’ll go out first.”

Xia Jinyuan, who was sitting three empty chairs away, pretended to get up. Madam Xiao panicked and hurriedly said, ”No, no. I’ll take it now. I’ll take it now.”

She hurriedly picked up the call. A beautiful woman’s voice sounded from the other end. ”Aunt Xiao, why aren’t you here yet? Are you lost? I’ll come and fetch you now.”

”Jiayi, I have something urgent to attend to and can’t come over for the time being. Don’t wait for me.”

It was Du Jiayi, who had returned to the capital city. She couldn’t stand Madam Li’s nagging every day and moved back to the bachelor apartment she bought when she was studying in university. When she returned to the country a few days ago, she only stayed at the Du family’s house for two nights. She was annoyed by Madam Li, so she used work as an excuse to escape again.

The soup Madam Xiao wanted to serve Xia Jinyuan was actually for Du Jiayi. It was indeed not meant for Xia Jinyuan.

The private room was very quiet. The voice from the cell phone could be heard faintly. Xia Jinyuan smiled slightly, and a hint of mockery flashed past his eyes.

Madam Xiao was still ’kind’ and considerate. Of course, she was only like this with other people.

”Jiayi, be good. I’ll come and see you later. I’ll make you whatever you want to eat. If you’re uncomfortable, lie on the bed. Don’t force yourself to work anymore. No matter how busy you are with work, you have to take good care of yourself.”

Du Jiayi, who didn’t get any chicken soup, didn’t throw a tantrum and said sweetly, ”Alright, Aunt Xiao. I forgive you. Remember to call me when you’re done. I’ll come and pick you up. If it’s too late, you don’t have to come over, or I’ll get worried.”

”Okay, I understand. I’ll hang up first.”

Madam Xiao spoke gently. Those who didn’t know better would think that the person on the other end of the cell phone was her biological daughter.

Although they were not biologically related, they were not much different, especially in the past two years. She took care of Du Jiayi even more than Madam Li, her biological mother.

Xia Jinyuan was very calm. He always knew that the Madam Xiao in front of him was the most concerned about others. However, she didn’t care much about her own family.

In the past, he would still be sad and resentful. Now, he didn’t feel anything.

They were just strangers. There was no need for him to care.

After ending the call, Madam Xiao put down her phone and explained apologetically, ”I’m sorry, Yuan. Jiayi isn’t feeling well, and I’m a little worried about her.”

Xia Jinyuan only nodded slightly without expressing any opinion.

It was fine as long as she was happy. Who she was worried about had nothing to do with him.

She probably knew that she shouldn’t mention outsiders. Seeing that Xia Jinyuan’s expression was cold, Madam Xiao forced a smile and tried her best to look natural. ”Her parents are worried since she’s a girl living alone, so they asked me to take care of her. Don’t be angry…”

”It’s only right that you do that.”

In the end, Xia Jinyuan replied politely. After saying that, he poured some tea and drank it slowly.

”Your father told me that you’re very busy. Yuan, no matter how busy you are, you have to take good care of yourself. You can’t ruin your body just because you’re young.

”You’re already 28 years old. You should consider finding a girlfriend to take care of you. Find someone with a gentle and demure personality. I think dating a teacher is not bad. She’ll have lots of time. She can go to the military unit to take care of you during the summer and winter holidays.

”You can’t look for someone too busy. You can’t look for someone in the military unit. Otherwise, in the future, the two of you will be on your own. No matter how strong your relationship is, it’ll fade. Find someone who can spend more time with you.”
