Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Commander Xia once told Ye Jian that if there was anything, she had to tell him in time. She mustn’t hide or make any decisions or actions on her own. Sun Xueqing’s matter wasn’t Ye Jian’s alone. Besides her family feud, there was a huge network of connections. If Ye Jian was not careful, she might get herself into trouble.

Ye Jian forwarded all the messages sent by the village leader, Zhang Defu, to Commander Xia’s personal cell phone. While waiting for Commander Xia to reply, Ye Jian tried to call home, but she thought that it might go unanswered.

Without any hope of answering, she heard the old man’s voice from the other end. Ye Jian jumped up from her seat and said in surprise, ”Grandpa, when did you go home?”

The old man went to the Space Academy laboratory for more than half a year. During this period, Ye Jian tried calling home a few times, but the calls were always unanswered. Even Uncle Fu, who took care of the old man, wasn’t at home. He also went to the Space Academy to prepare the old man’s meals.

Old Master Fu, who had only been back for less than half a month, heard Ye Jian’s voice. He had silver hair and wore presbyopia glasses. He laughed loudly. ”I’ve been home for a while. I learned that my good granddaughter had called home several times. When I came back, I was so anxious. I was afraid that my good granddaughter had something urgent to tell me. Is it the holidays? When do you plan to come home? Call me before you come home. I’ll send a car to fetch you home.”

The old man missed Ye Jian very much. It had only been less than a month since he came home. Although the old man supported Ye Jian’s work, it didn’t mean that he could endure not seeing Ye Jian for a long time.

As people got older, the only thing they missed was their descendants.

When Ye Jian heard the old man asking her when she would be coming home, she felt so guilty that she didn’t know what to say.

There was no need to explain her pause. To the old man, silence meant an answer.

Although the open-minded old man was disappointed, he expressed his absolute support for his granddaughter’s work. He smiled and comforted Ye Jian. ”Do you feel guilty that you have to go out again and can’t come back to accompany me?

”Hahaha, my good grandchild, you’re still young. Young people travel around the world. Your great-grandpa and great-grandmother taught me this. I studied abroad at the age of 14 years old and left home for 14 years before returning to my hometown. It’s time for you to study and strive. Learn more and see more. As long as you’re learning, I’ll be happy just waiting at home.”

The old man was already used to living alone. When he was young, he didn’t accompany Mr. Fu much. After Mr. Fu grew up, Mr. Fu didn’t have time to accompany the old man anymore. Now that his granddaughter was back, she didn’t have time to accompany him either. The three of them were very used to living alone.

Ye Jian regretted not calling home a few more times. If she knew that her grandpa was back, she would have returned to the capital city to accompany the old man for a few days before going to the border for training…

Unfortunately, there was no medicine for regret. Her schedule was set, and her mission couldn’t be changed. Her comrades were all waiting for her to go over. She… had to go over.

”I’m sorry, Grandpa. I can’t go back to the capital city to accompany you. I’ll definitely come back to accompany you during the seven days of holiday for National Day.” Ye Jian’s voice was as soft as a mosquito. She lowered her head because of guilt.

”It’s July now. There’s not much time left until National Day. I’ll wait for you at home. What you need to do is much more meaningful than coming home to accompany me. A country is a home. I understand.”

The old man, who had dedicated his entire life to the development of the country’s aerospace, could understand this very well. This was the case for the old man himself. Even Mr. Fu, who was groomed by him, was the same. He gave up his small family for everyone.
