Rebirth: General, Don't Mess Around!

Thinking of J5, the two of them felt gloomy. Xia Jinyuan, who was holding an umbrella, held Ye Jian’s hand at some point in time. The two of them held hands tightly. Even the tips of their fingers were transmitting the same sorrow.

The entire journey was silent. They could only hold hands.

The rain was washing away everything. The entire world turned into a transparent curtain of rain. Ye Jian stepped on the fallen leaves and returned to the dormitory.

”See you tomorrow, Captain Xia.” Ye Jian stepped into the corridor on the first floor and waved at the man who was holding an umbrella in the rain. ”Rest early.”

”Yes, rest early too. See you tomorrow.” Xia Jinyuan smiled and waved his hand. ”Hurry up and go back to the dormitory. Sweet dreams.”

”Sweet dreams.”

The raindrops hit the umbrella with loud patters. Under the umbrella, the man’s pants were all wet. Even one side of his shoulders was wet. He didn’t seem to notice it. The umbrella in front of him was raised slightly so that he could see her more clearly.

The fabric of the soldiers’ short-sleeved summer uniform was thinner. It was drenched by the rain and stuck to his skin, outlining the strong muscles of his shoulders and arms. He stood there until Ye Jian walked toward the stairs.

The night was very dark, and the rain was heavy. In the wind and rain, the man holding the umbrella stood tall and straight like an unsheathed sword. After a long time, the young lieutenant colonel walked away.

Ye Jian climbed to the fourth floor and looked down. She only saw a figure walking further and further away in the rain.

J5’s sacrifice was the most painful. As the captain, Captain Xia had once told her that since the captain brought his comrades out, he had the responsibility to bring them back alive.

J5, who went out to fight together, was sacrificed…

Even though two years had passed, J5 was still a scar in Captain Xia’s heart that had never healed. When he mentioned it slightly, the unhealed scar immediately tore apart and became a mess of flesh and blood.

”Captain Xia…”

The wind and rain swept Ye Jian away. Her heart was very heavy. Even if she took countless deep breaths, she couldn’t relax. In the end, Ye Jian simply placed her hands on the railing of the corridor and stood alone for at least ten minutes before returning to the dormitory.

When Xia Jinyuan returned to the guest house, his clothes were all wet. Five minutes later, with his short hair still dripping with water, he walked out of the bathroom in a short-sleeved shirt.

Holding a dark green military towel in his hand, he wiped his hair casually and sat by the single bed. After that, he seemed to want to get up and do something, but he felt that he didn’t need to do anything. Holding the damp towel in his hand, he sat like a statue for a long time.

He didn’t even shift his gaze. He kept staring at a certain spot on the ground.

He sat there quietly for a long time before getting up to dry the towel in his hand. When he came back, he didn’t sleep immediately. He sat in front of the desk and opened the drawer. He took out countless letters.

The senders were different, but the recipient was the same person.

”My brother, J5…”

They were all written for J5.

Xia Jinyuan didn’t look at the contents of the envelope. He just counted them one by one. After counting, he took out his letter and opened the envelope that wasn’t sealed. He took out the squarish letter and unfolded it.

[Brother, it’s been a year and eight months since you left. I’ve carried out many missions with our comrades. They’re all fine. Besides the occasional old injuries that haven’t healed and new injuries, they didn’t die. They all came back alive.

[You said that we would all live, but in the end, you’re the only one missing. J5, every time we think of you sleeping alone, we, men who wouldn’t even cry after getting shot by bullets, would scream.]
