Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 48: Chapter 48: Emergency! A Patient with Sepsis

By the early hours of the second day, all the medical staff were hitting a wall of exhaustion. Fortunately, the worst was over, and most of the patients had already received initial emergency treatment.

However, in a few of the critical care wards, some patients’ conditions were taking a turn for the worse.

Yang Xinghao was a cameraman for the Fan City TV Station, primarily responsible for video recording. He was one of the crew members who had been filming at the chemical plant that day.

Having ventured too deep into the scene while filming, he suffered severe burns when the fire erupted.

Despite receiving initial emergency treatment, his condition had relapsed.

In the ward, the nurse monitoring his vitals had a grim look on her face.

”The patient’s creatinine is 390.67 μmol/L, beta-2 microglobulin is 7.21 μmol/L, and blood urea nitrogen is 23.31 mmol/L...”

”Sister Xiao, the patient has developed severe sepsis and acute renal failure! We need Director Huo and Director Wei to come immediately and formulate a treatment plan.”

The nurse immediately ran to get Xiao Xixi, who wasted no time in contacting the two directors.

A short while later, Huo Yun and Wei Guoqiang both arrived at the critical care ward.

Their brows furrowed as they assessed the patient’s condition.

”The patient’s condition is grim. The incidence of sepsis is low, but the mortality rate is very high. Sepsis can easily lead to multiple organ failure, including acute renal failure, causing systemic imbalance...”

”To treat sepsis and acute renal failure, our goal is to remove inflammatory mediators and toxins from the body, correct electrolyte and acid-base imbalances, and stabilize his internal systems. Therefore, the best course of treatment is intravenous hemodialysis.”

Wei Guoqiang immediately proposed a treatment plan.

Upon hearing Wei Guoqiang’s plan, Xiao Xixi looked troubled.

”Director Wei, the critical care wards are already at full capacity. All the dialysis machines and supplies are currently in use, and we can’t free one up on such short notice.”

”Is it possible to borrow one from another department?”

Huo Yun pressed.

Xiao Xixi shook her head. ”We’ve already brought all the available ones to our Emergency Department.”

After a moment’s thought, Xiao Xixi added, ”Well, it’s not that we’re completely out of equipment. There’s an unused Baxter Bm25 (Southern Country) blood purification device in the Emergency Department. But it’s a new model we just acquired. Other than Deputy Director Jiang Ming, who learned to use it during his training in Xianglin City, no one else knows how. It hasn’t been rolled out for general use yet.”

”Get Jiang Ming, now!”

Huo Yun ordered decisively, and a junior doctor immediately went to get Jiang Ming.

A short while later, the junior doctor returned. ”Director Jiang was on the front lines treating patients this whole time and is hypoglycemic. He just laid down to rest for a bit. He’s on his way now, but I don’t know if he has the stamina to keep going!”

Huo Yun felt a sense of helplessness when he heard this, but Jiang Ming had already given it his all.

Huo Yun sighed. The problem was that the new device had only been acquired recently, and the Emergency Department hadn’t prioritized training for it. The senior doctors were still accustomed to traditional hemodialysis methods.

”Alright, here’s the plan. I’ll immediately contact Professor Shen Guofeng at Haijin Port Affiliated First Hospital and have him arrange for an expert on this device to provide remote guidance. At the same time, get Jiang Ming over here. He’ll just have to hold on for as long as he can.”

”Go and notify everyone in the Emergency Department right now. Find any physicians who have studied this or have a basic understanding of hemodialysis. Tell them to come assist Director Jiang with the procedure.”

Huo Yun immediately came up with a plan of action.

”Okay, this is our only option for now.”

Huo Yun immediately contacted Shen Guofeng. Professor Shen was deeply sympathetic to the situation at Fan City First Hospital.

”Director Huo, alright. I’ll have someone ready in five minutes. You get the remote equipment set up on your end, and we can establish the connection.”

Professor Shen immediately went to his department to contact a top expert in the field.

A short while later, Jiang Ming arrived at the critical care ward. His face was pale, and he was clearly running on fumes.

But at a time like this, Jiang Ming had no choice.

”Director Jiang, thank you for pushing through this. Director Huo has already sent for a physician with relevant experience to assist you. With their help, plus the remote guidance from the expert at Jinggang University Affiliated First Hospital, I’m confident we can complete Reporter Yang’s hemodialysis.”

”Mm.”

Jiang Ming used the brief moment to try and recover some of his strength.

...

...

Zhu Zhu was a senior reporter for the Fan City TV Station. Since this emergency response at City First Hospital was for a pre-recorded report, she didn’t have to appear on camera.

At twenty-nine, Zhu Zhu was tall and stunningly beautiful, with looks that would place her at the top even among TV anchors. She had the unmistakable air of a wealthy, sophisticated beauty.

At the moment, however, she was without a hint of makeup, and her clothes were understated, exuding an air of professionalism and competence.

Generally, news teams were divided into writers and videographers. The writers were responsible for recording interviews and drafting news articles, while the videographers handled the filming.

However, this rescue operation was a breaking news event. Compounding the issue, the station had just lost several staff members at the chemical plant site. As a result, Zhu Zhu had to handle filming, writing, and video production all by herself.

Zhu Zhu was one of the station’s elite young talents; otherwise, she would never have been entrusted with such a major responsibility.

Director Cai had given Zhu Zhu a certain amount of leeway, allowing her to do some on-site filming and interviews.

Zhu Zhu made her way to a general ward, which happened to be one under Dr. Qin Donglai’s care.

Just as Zhu Zhu started filming, she saw a resident doctor enter the ward.

”Dr. Qin, Reporter Yang in the critical care ward has developed sepsis and acute renal failure. He needs hemodialysis, but all the hospital’s conventional machines are in use. There’s only one idle Baxter Bm25 (Southern Country) blood purification device left. The problem is, only Director Jiang knows how to use it, and after so many hours of non-stop work, he’s running out of stamina. So, Director Huo sent me to ask if there are any physicians familiar with hemodialysis who can go and assist Director Jiang with the procedure.”

After listening, Qin Donglai looked around at the others in the ward, though not with much hope. After all, hemodialysis was a highly specialized skill.

Luo Ming shook his head, and the other residents were also unable to help.

As for Cheng Feng and the others, they had even less experience with it.

Wu Ting was just finishing suturing a patient’s skin when he heard the resident’s announcement. He suddenly realized, ’Wait, didn’t I just get that skill entry? I just haven’t synthesized it yet.’

[System Synthesis Recommendation!]

[DING! Host has synthesized the following entries: Blood Purification Technique (Yellow) + Baxter Bm25 (Southern Country) Blood Purification Device Usage Skill (Yellow) = Continuous Blood Purification Technique (Purple). This is a new, advanced blood purification technique, distinct from traditional dialysis, capable of treating severe burns complicated by sepsis.]

A flood of comprehensive and detailed information entered Wu Ting’s mind.

Zhu Zhu was filming the entire time, capturing the resident’s anxious report, the helpless expressions on Qin Donglai and the others, and the tense atmosphere within the department.

Her hand holding the camera trembled slightly. Yang Xinghao was her colleague; how she wished a doctor would step forward at that moment.

Zhu Zhu desperately wanted to go see Yang Xinghao, but she had a duty to fulfill and could only continue recording.

Suddenly, through her viewfinder, she saw a young, handsome doctor step forward.

In stark contrast to the helplessness and exhaustion of everyone else, this young doctor looked vigorous, radiating confidence and composure.

”Dr. Qin, I’ve studied that blood purification device. I’ll head to the critical care ward right now to assist Director Jiang.”

Zhu Zhu could hardly believe it. Suddenly, a thought struck her. ’This scene, this doctor... he’s the perfect subject for my story.’

Zhu Zhu decided that her next move would be to follow Wu Ting and film a dedicated segment on him!
