Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Experts from the Provincial Capital Arrive, The Surgery Is Finished?

With Wu Ting’s stunning skill, all the tendons on the severed limb were repaired in no time.

”Director Lu, it’s all yours now.”

Wu Ting stepped back from the primary surgeon’s position. Lu Xiong, who was at the side, only snapped back to reality when he heard Wu Ting handing things over.

He seemed to wish it wasn’t over; Wu Ting’s tendon suturing had truly been a textbook-perfect exhibition of suturing techniques.

”Dr. Wu, I’m impressed.”

Lu Xiong offered a word of praise, then composed himself. Wu Ting had perfectly completed his part; he couldn’t afford to hold him back.

”Scrub nurse... microscope... 8-0 Prolene suture...”

Lu Xiong began suturing the severed ends of the ulnar and radial arteries under the microscope. When it came to vascular suturing, Lu Xiong was quite experienced.

In a short while, he began the vascular bridging, followed by the anastomosis of the accompanying ulnar and radial veins.

Perhaps from watching Wu Ting operate, a competitive spirit was ignited in Lu Xiong. As a senior attending physician, he brought out his A-game.

Lu Xiong understood very well that the recording of this surgery would serve as a classic instructional video at City First Hospital for a long time to come.

With Wu Ting setting such a brilliant precedent, his own performance couldn’t look too shabby.

As for the vascular suturing, Wu Ting watched and learned attentively. He hadn’t yet obtained the corresponding Entry for this skill, so he observed with intense focus.

Lu Xiong, Qin Donglai, and Luo Ming all noticed Wu Ting’s humble and eager attitude.

’No wonder he improves so quickly. He’s truly humble and patient.’ Lu Xiong believed that for someone with such superb tendon suturing skills, his vascular anastomosis couldn’t be bad either.

Soon, Lu Xiong finished repairing all of the patient’s blood vessels.

Next came the more difficult nerve suturing.

Following the surgical plan they had established earlier, Lu Xiong began to anastomose the median, ulnar, and radial nerves using epineurial and interfascicular sutures on the large nerve bundles.

The patient’s forearm had been severed mostly at the mid-to-distal section. Most of the muscles in the proximal forearm retained their innervation from the muscular branches of the radial, median, and ulnar nerves, so muscle power was preserved. After Lu Xiong completed the nerve anastomosis, the core repairs of the entire surgery were complete.

Wu Ting’s perfect Suturing Skill reduced tendon adhesion and restored the continuity and integrity of the tendons to the greatest extent possible. Therefore, in theory, this laid the foundation for a good recovery of wrist and finger function after the replantation surgery.

Moreover, Wu Ting had used the double-plane Kessler method. This technique provided great tensile strength and smoothness to the sutured tendon ends, further reducing the possibility of adhesion. Therefore, as the surgery concluded, both Lu Xiong and Qin Donglai judged it to be an unprecedented success.

Finally, it was time for skin closure. At this stage, Wu Ting volunteered, as he possessed a cosmetic-grade Suturing Skill.

Wu Ting ligated the bleeding points within the wound one by one to achieve hemostasis. He meticulously sutured the subcutaneous tissue and used a skin graft for the area with skin defects. Possessing the aesthetic sense of an art student, Wu Ting’s wound management was exceptionally beautiful.

”What beautiful suturing and skin graft design.”

Lu Xiong was once again stunned by Wu Ting’s fundamental skills.

Another five minutes later, the core steps of the surgery were completely finished.

It was finally Luo Ming’s turn, giving him a sense of participation. Luo Ming handled the last of the manual labor and dirty work. After placing multiple drainage tubes under the skin to prevent hematoma and immobilizing the arm with a plaster splint in a resting position, the entire surgery was successfully completed.

Looking at the final result, even the worldly-wise Director of Orthopedics, Lu Xiong, felt a sincere sense of accomplishment.

Qin Donglai also couldn’t believe he had participated in completing such a difficult severed arm replantation surgery.

Who would have thought that the key figure in such a surgery would be Wu Ting, a resident doctor?

[Ding! The Host has completed an ultra-high-difficulty severed arm replantation surgery with Lu Xiong, Qin Donglai, and Luo Ming. Obtained an Entry from Director Lu Xiong: Master of Nerve Repair (Purple). Possess the nerve repair techniques of an orthopedic director with decades of experience.]

[Obtained an Entry from Officer Liu Ping: Criminal Investigator’s Tenacious Willpower and Endurance (Yellow). From Liu Ping’s endurance and willpower, possess immense physical stamina and mental fortitude.]

[This is a mental and physical-type Entry. It is a Basic Entry that can be applied to any technical skill Entry. It is universally compatible.]

[Recommended Entry Enhancement: Criminal Investigator’s Tenacious Willpower and Endurance (Yellow) + Grandmaster of Tendon Suturing (Black) = Grandmaster of Tendon Suturing: Assembly Line (Black). With the officer’s endurance and willpower, you can perform surgery continuously without eating, drinking, or resting. In large-scale emergency rescue situations, you can hold your own and calm everyone’s fears!]

[Recommended Entry Synthesis: Criminal Investigator’s Tenacious Willpower and Endurance (Yellow) + Master of Nerve Repair (Purple) = Master of Nerve Repair: Assembly Line (Purple), same as above.]

...

Seeing how this Entry could be used, Wu Ting was overjoyed. The gains this time were simply enormous.

Of course, it also deepened Wu Ting’s admiration for Liu Ping.

’No wonder Officer Liu was able to tightly restrain the drug dealer despite his arm being completely severed, massive blood loss, and excruciating pain. What incredible willpower and endurance!’

With the enhancement from this Entry, Wu Ting felt himself become stronger—not just technically, but mentally.

’It is my honor to be able to save such a hero of the people!’

...

Criminal Investigation Captain Huang Yangming had no idea what was happening inside the operating room. He waited anxiously in the hallway of the emergency department.

Finally, the phone in his hand rang.

The expert from Xiao City, Professor Shen Guofeng, had finally arrived at Fan City First Hospital.

As Professor Shen arrived at City First Hospital, the hospital’s vice dean, Dean Tang Long, also came personally to welcome Shen Guofeng.

Professor Shen had brought his surgical team with him this time. He would be responsible for designing the overall surgical plan and handling the most critical parts: tendon and nerve repair. His deputy was an attending physician from his department, Director Lu, who specialized in orthopedics.

Seeing Professor Shen, both Captain Huang and Dean Tang greeted him warmly.

After seeing Professor Shen, Captain Huang was in no mood for excessive pleasantries. After expressing some gratitude, he got straight to the point.

Professor Shen didn’t waste words either.

”Captain Huang, Director Lu and I have already discussed Officer Liu’s situation on our way here.”

”I must first clarify something. Because we were traveling from Xiao City, we have, to some extent, already missed the optimal window for treatment.”

Hearing Professor Shen’s frankness, Captain Huang’s expression turned grim.

”However, the situation isn’t too dire. If my team takes the lead on the surgery, I’m confident we have a sixty percent chance of restoring Officer Liu to a state where he can return to normal work. Even if we can’t achieve a perfect recovery, we can guarantee he’ll be able to manage basic daily life.”

Professor Shen was very rigorous and objective.

”Of course, for a more specific success rate, I’ll need to examine and assess the patient in person. I’ve heard that the doctors at City First Hospital’s emergency department are already carrying out preliminary preparations. This will also have a certain impact on our final outcome.”

”If your hospital’s preliminary work has been done properly and we can follow up in a timely manner, there’s still a high probability that we can get Officer Liu back on duty as a criminal investigator.”

Shen Guofeng’s statement finally put Captain Huang’s mind somewhat at ease.

Dean Tang, standing to the side, nodded repeatedly. In his heart, he was praying that his hospital’s doctors hadn’t dropped the ball.

After all, Huo Yun and Lin Hu were still in the middle of another major surgery. The ones shouldering the main responsibility this time were just Director Lu Xiong and the attending physician, Qin Donglai.

”Dean Tang, Captain Huang, I am very experienced with limb replantation. The key to this surgery’s success lies in the design of the surgical plan for the tendon sutures. Only by minimizing tendon adhesion and increasing the tensile strength and smoothness of the sutured tendon ends can we maximize the recovery of wrist function and sensation...”

”Therefore, for this surgery, I’ve designed a double-plane Kessler method... However, this plan requires a specially designed debridement procedure. I wonder how well your hospital’s doctors have completed the preliminary debridement...”

The group continued walking toward the operating room as they talked.
