Doctor: I Can Synthesize Infinite Entries

Chapter 23: Chapter 23: Porphyria Confirmed! Starting to Write the Paper

Director Huang looked at Wu Ting, his expression a mix of surprise and profound admiration.

”Dr. Wu, your concept has truly been an eye-opener for me. Such an ingenious application of the Clearing Heat, Dissolving Phlegm, and Promoting Bowel Movement Method!”

”Director Huo, Dr. Qin, to be honest, this is the first time I’ve ever seen someone combine the Clearing Heat, Dissolving Phlegm, and Promoting Bowel Movement Method with a Tracheotomy.”

”The Clearing Heat, Dissolving Phlegm, and Promoting Bowel Movement Method is a classic formulation in our National Medicine used to treat pulmonary infections.”

”National Medicine considers pulmonary infections to fall within the categories of ’wheezing syndrome’ and ’pulmonary abscess.’ The pathogenesis is rooted in the lung’s failure to disperse and descend qi, weakness of the internal organs, and an internal accumulation of phlegm and turbidity. The Clearing Heat, Dissolving Phlegm, and Promoting Bowel Movement Method works to unblock the bowels to purge heat, and to clear heat and dissolve phlegm. It can significantly inhibit the activity of various bacteria, dilate pulmonary blood vessels, reduce inflammation, and bolster the body’s immune system.”

”Although I’ve never tried or even heard of this before, it’s undeniable that there is a solid theory behind combining the Clearing Heat, Dissolving Phlegm, and Promoting Bowel Movement Method with Western medicine. The Western medicine rapidly improves the patient’s symptoms, while the Chinese medicine provides long-term relief from the infection. This two-pronged approach has profound clinical significance.”

”Director Huo, Dr. Qin, I believe Wu Ting’s combined Traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach is worth trying!”

Director Huang looked again at the prescription Wu Ting had written earlier:

”Dr. Wu’s prescription is also highly targeted. I’ve looked at his formula. Phragmites root clears heat, generates fluids, relieves irritability, and stops vomiting. Winter melon seed moistens the lungs, dissolves phlegm, resolves abscesses, and promotes diuresis. Coix seed promotes diuresis and drains dampness, strengthens the spleen to stop diarrhea, and relieves impediment...

Houttuynia clears heat and resolves toxins, promotes diuresis and relieves stranguria, and has anti-inflammatory properties. Honeysuckle flower clears heat, resolves toxins, and disperses wind-heat. Chuanxiong rhizome invigorates blood, dispels stasis, moves qi to relieve stagnation, and expels wind to stop pain...

Peach kernel invigorates blood, dispels stasis, stops cough, and calms wheezing. Platycodon root stops cough and expels phlegm. Scutellaria root clears heat, dries dampness, drains fire, and resolves toxins. Bamboo shavings clear heat, dissolve phlegm, relieve irritability, and stop vomiting. Rhubarb drains dampness to reduce jaundice, purges heat to unblock the bowels, and resolves toxins to reduce abscesses...

Magnolia bark directs qi downward, eases the chest, dries dampness, and resolves phlegm. Immature bitter orange breaks up qi stagnation, reduces accumulation, transforms phlegm, and dissipates focal distention. Mirabilite breaks up focal distention, warms the middle jiao, resolves food stagnation, and drives out water...

And the licorice serves to harmonize all the other herbs. When used together, they achieve the effect of unblocking the bowels to purge heat and clearing heat to dissolve phlegm!”

After meticulously reviewing the prescription, Director Huang gave Wu Ting a thumbs-up, his expression full of admiration.

”Director Huo, if I hadn’t seen Wu Ting for myself, I would have thought this prescription was written by a veteran National Medicine practitioner. Dr. Wu’s expertise in National Medicine pattern differentiation is truly profound. You should come and exchange ideas with our National Medical Department more often when you have the chance.”

After hearing Director Huang’s assessment, Huo Yun and Qin Donglai were full of marvel.

”In that case, let’s proceed with Wu Ting’s prescription and treat the patient using the combined Traditional Chinese and Western medicine approach!”

[Ding! The Host has completed an interdepartmental consultation with Huo Yun, Huang Hong, Qin Donglai, and Luo Ming. Congratulations to the Host for obtaining the entry: Tendon Suturing Master (Purple) from Director Huo Yun. Huo Yun’s tendon suturing technique has integrated various suturing methods to the point of mastery and innovation, giving him the potential to create his own school of thought!]

[Recommended Entry Synthesis: Tendon Suturing Master (Purple) + Tendon Suturing Master (Purple) + Tendon Suturing Master (Purple) = Tendon Suturing Grandmaster (Black). Possess the skills of a top-tier grandmaster in the domestic field of tendon suturing, ranking among the top five in the entire country, with the ability to found your own school.]

[Missing Entry: Tendon Suturing Master (Purple)]

Seeing this recommended synthesis, Wu Ting was utterly shocked. ’This is the first time I’ve ever seen a black-rarity entry. It actually gives the ability to found a school and rank in the top five in the country.’

’Looks like from now on, I need to complete more medical scenarios with big shots like Director Huo!’

At the same time, Wu Ting gained a deeper understanding of the system’s mechanics. ’So, as long as three entries of the same rank drop, I can synthesize a higher-rank one.’

’If I keep ”farming” the same person, sooner or later the student will surpass the master!’

’I guess I need to be more proactive and participate in all kinds of surgeries from now on.’

Just as the group was preparing to end their discussion, good news arrived from the emergency ward.

The doctor on duty called:

”Director Huo, we have a confirmation. It’s confirmed!”

”Li Qiman’s test results—urinary ALA excretion, porphobilinogen excretion, and the qualitative test for porphobilinogen (the Watson-Schwartz test)—are all positive. In other words, the patient does indeed have porphyria!”

After hanging up the phone, Huo Yun remarked with a sigh:

”Wu Ting, your earlier diagnosis has been confirmed. The patient does indeed have porphyria. Now that we’ve identified the illness, we can proceed with a targeted treatment.”

”Qin Donglai, Luo Ming, go to the ward now and inform the patient and her family. Porphyria may be rare, but there are established treatment protocols for it. Start her on hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine to lower her porphyrin levels...”

After arranging the treatment plan for the porphyria patient, Huo Yun expressed his gratitude to Director Huang.

”Director Huang, I have a few things to go over with Wu Ting. Thank you again for your help in successfully treating these two patients.”

Huang Hong nodded, feeling quite pleased himself. As a doctor, it was always gratifying when a consultation yielded a good outcome.

”You’re too kind, Director Huo. Although I participated in both consultations, I didn’t provide much help. The credit for all of this goes to Dr. Wu Ting. Dr. Wu, you have a limitless future ahead of you.”

Huang Hong offered a few more words of encouragement to Wu Ting before leaving Director Huo’s office.

Soon, only Wu Ting and Huo Yun were left in the office.

This was the first time Huo Yun had been alone with Wu Ting like this. Looking at the young man—handsome on the outside and an even greater treasure within—Huo Yun couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of admiration.

If the hospital hadn’t recently brought up the issue of offering permanent positions to residents, a pearl like Wu Ting might have truly been left to gather dust, and the City First Hospital Emergency Department would have lost a talent with immense potential.

Huo Yun thought for a moment. ’Right now, the most crucial thing for Wu Ting is to strengthen his chances of being offered a permanent position, to boost his competitiveness.’

’To keep Wu Ting, I’ll have to justify it to the rest of the leadership.’

’And Wu Ting’s ”Combined Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatment for Tracheotomy” is the perfect angle.’

”Wu Ting, I asked you to stay behind because I wanted to ask your thoughts. Have you ever considered publishing a paper?”

”This ’Combined Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatment for Tracheotomy’ of yours—I believe it has profound clinical significance and holds value for promotion in emergency departments nationwide. Furthermore, you conceived the direction and content for this paper entirely on your own, which is quite remarkable. It’s very rare for a surgeon to come across an opportunity like this.”

Huo Yun stared intently at Wu Ting.

Wu Ting was, of course, overjoyed by this. ”Of course, Director Huo! I was actually thinking the same thing. Also, regarding the research project you asked me to lead, ’The Effect of 15°C Antiseptic Solution on Pain Reduction During the Debridement of Superficial Second-Degree Burn Wounds’... since I now have a direction for my own paper, I think it would be best to return that project to Cheng Feng.”

Hearing Wu Ting’s response, Huo Yun’s already high opinion of him rose even further.

”It’s good that you have this kind of magnanimity and ambition. Very good. In that case, you can focus all your energy on preparing your own paper. Over the next few days, I want you to draft an outline and bring it to me.”

Compared to Wu Ting, who was developing everything from the core concept to the paper’s outline himself, Cheng Feng’s project was based almost entirely on Director Huo’s design and ideas. The difference in their capabilities was immediately apparent.

This also showed just how difficult it was for a junior doctor to get the chance to write a paper.

Someone like Cheng Feng, who was being completely guided by Director Huo with the direction and framework already laid out for him, had already spent months wracking his brain without producing a draft. He was still scrambling to find cases and perform surgeries, and it was anyone’s guess when—or if—he would ever produce a complete paper.

Therefore, Huo Yun decided to give more support to someone like Wu Ting, who was creating this from scratch and only just beginning to outline his paper.

”Wu Ting, here’s the plan. From now on, I’ll have Dr. Qin assist you as much as possible. You can ask him about anything you don’t understand, or you can come directly to me. As for relevant cases, I’ll coordinate with the General Surgery Department to find suitable ones for you. Work hard on it. I look forward to seeing your paper published!”

After another round of encouragement from Huo Yun, Wu Ting finally left the director’s office.
