Chapter 34: Chapter 34: Request for Help from Tongshi No. 1 Hospital

After leaving Director Huo’s office, Wu Ting returned to his desk and handed Cheng Feng the case materials he had compiled on the ”Combined Traditional Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine Treatment for Tracheotomy.”

Of course, Cheng Feng had already received Director Huo’s instructions, and his feelings on the matter were complicated.

When it came to Wu Ting, Cheng Feng was both envious and full of admiration.

”Brother Ting, don’t worry. I’ll polish up the formatting and flesh out the details for this case file. I’ll submit it to you by next Wednesday. Then on Thursday, I’ll do another check and proofread, and on Friday, we can send it to Director Huo.”

Wu Ting naturally approved of the plan Cheng Feng laid out.

”Thanks, I’ll be counting on you.”

Wu Ting had benefited greatly from Cheng Feng’s help quite a few times, and he felt a little bad about it. With his Master of Wound Cleaning (Purple) ability, guiding Cheng Feng on his research project was more than manageable.

”Cheng Feng, regarding your previous research project, ’The Effect of 15°C Antiseptic Solution on Pain Reduction During Wound Cleaning for Patients with Superficial Second-Degree Burns’—I was actually involved with it for a time and have a few ideas.”

Cheng Feng was already deeply impressed with Wu Ting’s expertise in the field of wound cleaning, especially with cryotherapy. It seemed all his hard work wasn’t going to be in vain.

Cheng Feng pulled out a small notebook. ”Brother Ting, what’s your advice?”

”First, the patient inclusion criteria. 1. Age range: 12 to 60 years old. 2. Time since burn: ≤ 3 hours, which is the internationally recognized optimal window for cryotherapy. 3. Superficial second-degree burns with a burn area of ≤ 6%. 4. No signs of shock or unconsciousness. 5. Cause of injury must be a thermal burn. 6. The patient must have no cognitive impairments and consent to participate in the study...”

Wu Ting’s suggestions made the patient criteria much more comprehensive and detailed.

Listening to Wu Ting’s advice, Cheng Feng nodded repeatedly. It was true; his previous criteria had not been comprehensive or detailed enough.

”Furthermore, I suggest you optimize the treatment plan: 1. Rinse with 0.1% chlorhexidine acetate solution for 5 minutes, followed by a normal saline rinse for 5 minutes. 2. Disinfect by rinsing with 0.5% povidone-iodine for 5 minutes, then apply a wet compress with 0.5% povidone-iodine gauze for another 5 minutes. 3. Bandage the limbs and torso, but use exposure therapy for the head, face, neck, and perineum. For the observation group, keep the antiseptic solution at 15°C by storing it in a 15°C refrigerator for 24 hours. The control group will use a solution at room temperature...”

This was the optimal ratio and timing for rinsing and disinfection, which Wu Ting had refined using his Master of Wound Cleaning (Purple) ability.

”Brother Ting, you’ve been a huge help this time.”

Cheng Feng had been running endless experiments, trying to determine the optimal treatment plan. He never expected Wu Ting to just hand him a fully optimized protocol.

The precise inclusion criteria and the optimized treatment plan instantly sped up his research progress severalfold.

[Ding! The Host and Cheng Feng have completed a scholarly exchange and mutual assistance between doctors. You have obtained a trait from Cheng Feng: Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow). Grants exceptional listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, the ability to independently read foreign journals, and the ability to chat amicably with foreign girls.]

[Trait Synthesis Recommendation: Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow) + Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow) + Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow) = Foreign Language Master (Purple). A top-tier foreign language ability, capable of handling any academic reading, writing, or speaking, at a university teaching level.]

[Missing Trait: Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow)]

Wu Ting was a little surprised. He had only intended to give Cheng Feng some help; he hadn’t expected to get something out of it himself again.

”I’m the one who should be thanking you for helping me with the case file. We should look for more opportunities to exchange ideas and improve together.”

Wu Ting was growing to like Cheng Feng more and more. He thanked him sincerely while also looking forward to the final ”Top Student’s Foreign Language Ability (Yellow)” trait dropping in the next medical scenario.

Foreign language proficiency is an extremely important, core skill for medical researchers. Having a top-tier ability would allow him not only to read the most cutting-edge journals in their original language but also to communicate directly with top international teams.

’Cheng Feng really is a lucky charm.’

Wu Ting’s attitude made Cheng Feng feel a sense of mutual respect, like that between two great minds.

Wu Ting’s gratitude and his invitation to learn from each other made Cheng Feng respect his character even more.

’This was something Director Huo assigned to me, so it’s not like I could refuse. But the help Wu Ting gave me... no one asked him to do that. It was completely selfless.’

’It just goes to show how magnanimous and broad-minded Wu Ting is.’

’Come to think of it, I’ve been benefiting and learning so much from Wu Ting lately. I haven’t helped him with anything at all. This isn’t what Brother Ting called ’improving together’—this is just me secretly leveling up.’

’Brother Ting is too good of a person! He must be saying that just to help me save face.’

Cheng Feng resolved to do an excellent job revising the case file for Wu Ting and aimed to have it ready by Wednesday.

’A gentleman will die for one who truly understands him!’

「Bei City First People’s Hospital.」

Director Jin Yu of the Emergency Department had just been handed a hot potato.

A student from Bei City First Senior High School had been rushed to his emergency department.

The patient, Cai Xiaodong, was a second-year student at Tong High School and a big name on campus. Not only did he have excellent grades, but he also showed immense athletic potential.

With his combination of strong academics and athletic talent, Cai Xiaodong had long planned on being admitted to university as a recruited athlete. Based on current projections, he had a very high chance of getting into Xingke University on an athletic scholarship.

But during training today, disaster struck. While running, Cai Xiaodong suddenly felt a sharp pain in one of his feet, as if someone had kicked him from behind, and he collapsed to the ground.

His classmates and teachers immediately rushed Cai Xiaodong to the Emergency Department of Bei City First People’s Hospital. After a preliminary examination, Director Jin Yu diagnosed him with a ruptured Achilles tendon.

An acute Achilles tendon rupture is the most common lower-limb tendon injury, occurring most frequently in young adults.

For an ordinary person, Director Jin would have recommended conservative treatment. Both traditional open surgery and newer percutaneous or arthroscopic tendon suturing techniques carried risks and had their own inherent shortcomings.

Furthermore, the skill level of the doctors at Bei City First People’s Hospital was limited. Surgery could easily lead to complications like poor incision healing, infection, or even severe issues like sural nerve damage.

Director Jin thought it over. He had three options.

First, he could let the patient’s family decide whether to opt for surgery. If they chose purely conservative treatment, there would be minimal risk.

Second, if they chose surgery, he could either invite an expert for a consultation himself or let the family find their own trusted specialist to perform the operation.

The third option, of course, was to transfer the patient to a higher-level hospital. This was Jin Yu’s least preferred choice. After all, having to transfer a patient for a simple Achilles tendon repair would be a bit of an embarrassment.

Jin Yu had looked into Cai Xiaodong’s family background. They had some connections, especially his paternal uncle, Cai Dongbao, who was a director at Fan City TV Station and was very well-connected.

As soon as Cai Xiaodong’s father arrived at the hospital, they discussed the situation. It was clear that neither the patient nor his family would accept conservative treatment; they were set on surgery.

The patient’s father asked Director Jin to arrange for an expert consultation, adding that he would also contact his own older brother, Cai Dongbao, to find the best possible treatment option.

With the plan decided, Jin Yu began to consider which expert to contact.

Suddenly, the memory of Wu Ting’s textbook-perfect limb replantation surgery flashed through his mind. An idea formed. Jin Yu immediately dialed Qin Donglai’s number, planning to invite Wu Ting as a consulting expert for Cai Xiaodong’s tendon repair.

Of course, Jin Yu wasn’t planning to have Wu Ting perform the surgery himself. It was more about having a safety net and an additional opinion on the surgical plan.

After all, given Cai Dongbao’s influence, he was sure to invite an impressive specialist—most likely a famous surgeon from Xiao City, Xianglin City, or perhaps even Qinghe City.

Bringing Wu Ting in would serve as a demonstration of his own connections. It would show the patient’s family, and any other specialists they invited, the strength of his network and the caliber of Fan City’s local experts.
