Chapter 44: Chapter 44: Dr. Wu, I Was Arbitrary, and I Apologize to You

Lu Yu didn’t waste words. Time was critical, after all. He immediately copied the formula from Wu Ting for the burn department physicians and gave a quick explanation.

The burn department physician looked at the young man performing the Tracheotomy in disbelief.

”Dr. Wu is incredible!”

After passing on the information, Lu Yu turned to Wu Ting and said:

”Dr. Wu, you assist Director Jiang here. I’ll go inform the other wards. We really owe you one this time.”

After his sincere and heartfelt thanks, Lu Yu hurried off to the next ward.

Meanwhile, the attending physician in the burn department immediately adjusted the fluid replacement formula. He began performing rapid, precise calculations according to the Haijin Gang Burn Fluid Replacement Formula.

The patients Jiang Ming finished stabilizing were immediately put on timely fluid replacement.

Jiang Ming, of course, overheard the conversation between Lu Yu and the burn department physician. He was rather stunned, and his face burned with embarrassment.

’So I was wrong about Dr. Wu Ting!’

Jiang Ming looked at the young man, wanting to apologize, but Wu Ting was in the middle of a tense Tracheotomy. The words on the tip of Jiang Ming’s tongue were swallowed back down.

Wu Ting had already made a transverse incision at the anterior border of the patient’s sternocleidomastoid muscle, then skillfully cut through the skin and subcutaneous fat.

Then, he used retractors to pull the tissues evenly to both sides, quickly achieving full exposure of the trachea.

”...Number 11 scalpel...”

Wu Ting signaled to the scrub nurse. After taking the scalpel, he inserted it below the cartilage rings he intended to cut, decisively punctured the trachea, and incised upwards through the 3rd and 4th tracheal rings.

”...Tracheal spreader... tracheal tube...”

Without hesitation, Wu Ting began to spread the tracheal ring incision, suctioned out the secretions, then inserted the tracheal tube into the trachea. After carefully checking the wound and confirming there were no active bleeding points, he immediately began to secure it with knots.

Watching Wu Ting’s technique, Jiang Ming was filled with admiration. ’So proficient!’

Once it was secured, Wu Ting began a textbook-perfect fixation by suturing the surrounding skin.

In just a few minutes, Wu Ting had completed a Tracheotomy.

”Excellent!”

Jiang Ming couldn’t help but cry out in praise.

At such a critical juncture, having such a skilled assistant was truly morale-boosting.

With Wu Ting sharing the load, Jiang Ming could finally catch his breath.

Just then, a resident physician from the next ward rushed over.

”Director Jiang, our ward just admitted another severe burn patient who needs a Tracheotomy. Dr. Huang is overwhelmed. Could you...?”

Jiang Ming still had to manage the overall situation in his own ward, so he looked at Wu Ting.

”Dr. Wu, I was too quick to judge just now. I apologize.”

After speaking, Jiang Ming gave a deep bow before giving his instructions: ”Dr. Wu, I still have several patients here who need emergency treatment. How about this: you go support the ward next door and establish an artificial airway for their patient. I’m counting on you!”

Given the skills Wu Ting had just demonstrated, Jiang Ming felt completely at ease entrusting him with the task.

’Wu Ting can already stand on his own!’

For Wu Ting, accepting Jiang Ming’s request was his duty.

”Director Jiang, what happened earlier was just a misunderstanding. Don’t worry, I’ll head over to the next ward to help right now.”

After finishing with the patient he was working on, Wu Ting immediately rushed to the next ward.

Seeing Wu Ting enter the ward again, the doctors there were a bit confused. Wu Ting and Lu Yu had just been there to teach them the Haijin Gang Burn Fluid Replacement Formula, so they had a strong impression of the young doctor. They just didn’t understand why he had come back.

”Director Jiang arranged for Dr. Wu to come and assist with the Tracheotomy,” explained the resident physician who had gone for help.

Dr. Huang, who was performing emergency treatment nearby, glanced over in surprise.

”Dr. Wu Ting is extremely skilled at Tracheotomies. Director Jiang sent him over. Dr. Wu can already handle things on his own.”

Dr. Huang naturally trusted Director Jiang’s judgment, and he felt a growing sense of admiration. This young doctor was truly shining in this rescue effort.

”Then I’ll have to trouble you, Dr. Wu.”

Unconsciously, Dr. Huang, a senior attending physician, was already speaking to him with the tone and attitude of an equal.

’In a hospital, medical skill is what determines your status!’

Wu Ting immediately began another Tracheotomy. The entire procedure was naturally both proficient and smooth.

Soon, the Tracheotomy was complete.

”The patient’s blood oxygen is rising, and their vital signs have stabilized.”

”Next, we need to start dealing with the eschar.”

This ward was also extremely short-staffed. A burn department doctor was performing an eschar removal on another patient.

Possessing Dr. Qin Donglai’s Escharotomy (Yellow), Wu Ting assessed the situation. If he could contribute his strength now, he could lighten everyone’s burden.

Without a second thought, Wu Ting immediately began an escharotomy.

”Dr. Wu, you...!”

Wu Ting’s seamless transition from one procedure to the next clearly left the other doctors in the ward dumbfounded.

Generally speaking, it was understandable that many emergency department doctors had rotated through several departments and mastered emergency procedures from each one.

But for someone as young as Wu Ting to be proficient in so many different skills was both admirable and shocking.

Of course, at such a critical moment, the doctors present didn’t have time to dwell on it. They just felt fortunate.

Dr. Wu’s arrival was simply too timely.

「Jiang Ming’s Ward」

With Wu Ting having eased his burden, Jiang Ming was able to free himself up to operate on the next patient.

Jiang Ming was in the critical ward to begin with, where the patients’ burns were the most severe.

The patient in front of Jiang Ming was a third-degree burn victim. The eschar covering his body had lost the elasticity of normal skin. After forming a circumferential, deep burn, the underlying tissue swelled, obstructing venous return beneath the eschar. If not treated in time, the arteries would become blocked due to mechanical pressure and reflexive spasms, leading to circulatory impairment in the distal limbs, and even necrosis.

Therefore, it was necessary to perform an escharotomy for decompression on the circumferential eschar.

There was a reason Jiang Ming had become the youngest deputy director of the emergency department; he was naturally very capable. Before officially becoming a permanent physician in the emergency department, he had rotated through many other departments and had a solid grasp of skills from the burn department as well.

Now, with the shortage of physicians, the value of a versatile doctor like Jiang Ming, skilled in multiple specialties, became apparent.

After Jiang Ming began the escharotomy and decompression, the burn department physicians in the ward were also able to catch their breath and handle the situation more calmly.

”As expected of Director Jiang!”

The attending physician from the burn department assigned to this ward felt a sense of admiration.

Jiang Ming had been researching acute abdominal conditions recently, but his escharotomy skills hadn’t gotten rusty at all.

He quickly completed the escharotomy and decompression on the patient’s neck.

After that, he began using a roller-type dermatome to remove the necrotic burn tissue, preserving the viable dermis or normal adipose tissue to promote wound healing.

In the entire ward, thanks to Wu Ting’s assistance with the Tracheotomy and the boost from the Haijin Gang Burn Fluid Replacement Formula, Jiang Ming was now able to go all out. For a time, the burn department physicians were freed up.

Jiang Ming could also feel that the ward was now managing the situation with ease.

After a moment of thought, Jiang Ming gave an order:

”Dr. Liu, our ward can now adequately handle this batch of patients. How about this: you go support the ward next door. Dr. Wu Ting is performing a Tracheotomy there. Once the patient’s vitals stabilize, you can take over and perform the escharotomy and decompression, creating a seamless handoff.”

”I’ll handle the escharotomies and eschar debridement in this ward.”

Hearing Jiang Ming’s arrangement, Dr. Liu nodded and immediately left to support the next ward.

’Dr. Wu, now it’s my turn to back you up.’
