Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 423: Chapter 397: Mixed Feelings

Huh? The old man in the Yu Family, with his stern face, actually had such a romantic and considerate past? Truly, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

Mrs. Yu got annoyed just thinking about it, slammed the table, and scared Panpan, who was eating ice cream, causing him to drop his spoon. He pouted and looked at his grandma in grievance.

Mrs. Yu quickly put on a gentle expression, patted her little grandson, and gestured for him to continue eating.

”Do you know what trick he pulled with the lunchbox?”

”What?”

”He took a pen and wrote a line inside the lid of the metal lunchbox, ’Comrade Qi Jiao, you look beautiful in floral clothes.’

”Pfft! Uncle really knows how to care for people.” Qian burst out laughing.

”Care, my foot! It was when he was doing laundry at home, and he stained the clothes. I had just one white dacron shirt. In those days, having a dacron shirt was a big deal, and I wouldn’t wear it often. He washed it with red socks, and the color bled badly. Knowing he was in trouble, he came over to show some goodwill.”

Qian imagined such a serious man like Yu Shaojiang doing this kind of thing and was about to laugh out loud.

But what was funnier came afterward.

”He must have had a screw loose. Not only did he write inside the lid, but he also packed such a huge cornbread in the lunchbox, stuffing it to the brim. When I opened it, half of the ink had smudged onto the cornbread. But that wasn’t the most annoying part. The most annoying part was that on that day, I was setting a bone for a patient and asked the nurse to heat the food for me. When she came back, she opened the lid because maybe she was scared of getting burned, and then—”

The expressions of everyone in that room are something Mrs. Yu will never forget.

Then she got a nickname in the hospital, ”Floral Clothes”...

Going back, she almost scratched Mr. Yu’s face up. Mrs. Yu told these past events with gritted teeth, while Qian laughed so hard her stomach ached.

If it were someone else, maybe it wouldn’t be so funny, but thinking it was done by that stubborn and strong old man from the Yu Family, it was unexpectedly hilarious.

”So I can see clearly now, all those bad habits of his got passed down to his son. When I was pregnant with the second child, I went to see your uncle. As soon as your second brother was born, he rushed over and pushed the midwife aside, grinning foolishly at your second brother, and that foolishness just followed him.”

They say a child takes after the first person they see. When Mrs. Yu had her first child, Mr. Yu was busy outside and couldn’t make it back in time and missed seeing the child. But with the second born, he was around, and that gave him great anticipation.

”I kind of envy you and Uncle; your relationship is really good.” Qian said sincerely.

Coming through such a materially deprived era, supporting each other for a lifetime, raising such good children, and still being affectionate to this day; simply talking about the iron-blooded romance of their youth fills one’s mouth with dog food.

”That’s true, all of our kids take after us in that regard, they take relationships seriously, but what I worry about most is your second brother. Your uncle and I owe him, not paying attention to his psychological changes in time, which led to his unhappy marriage.”

Mrs. Yu is still quite upset about the second son’s divorce, her son almost couldn’t fly, and she feels a bit guilty.

”You can’t say it’s all your fault. Kids with such personalities are quite common. Many people’s kids have similar problems; it’s just that they aren’t in second brother’s position, so it doesn’t show.”

Qian was comforting Mrs. Yu with these words, but in her heart, she was thinking that indeed, it’s rare to meet someone with emotional intelligence like second brother.

He’s almost 30, but his upbringing environment was particularly simple. He grew up in a family compound, then went to conquer the blue skies, being a pilot—a job that requires high-energy and physical demand. He didn’t have the chance to meet the outside world, or even women. If he wasn’t careful, meeting a woman like Wang Xiaohong would be very tricky.

”Qian, I don’t know much about your roommate, but she seems like a pretty nice girl. However, she used to call me grandma. If she really has something with your second brother, I really—”

”You should be happy! It’s like a blind cat bumping into a dead mouse, a match made in heaven.”

”...” Is it possible to praise someone like this?

”Auntie, based on my judgment, these two people are actually very suitable to live together. First, look at second brother’s personality. He’s quite quiet, right? Dong Yi is also very quiet. Although people say that couples should complement each other, that’s not always the case. If it’s Dong Yi and second brother who both like their own space, finding someone who chatters too much could definitely create an imbalance. But their mutual understanding won’t make either feel let down.”

One of the reasons Wang Xiaohong couldn’t get along with Yu Mingyi back then was because they had no common language.

Yu Mingyi was a man who always stayed silent, while Wang Xiaohong was non-stop talking. What she said he couldn’t take in, and his silent attitude made her feel ignored, and both felt unbalanced in their hearts.

But with Dong Yi, it wouldn’t be like that. Based on the situation last time they ate together, Qian had already noticed that even though Yu Mingyi and Dong Yi didn’t say much, they could understand each other with just a glance and enjoyed it.

”But she and your second brother have quite an age gap, almost 10 years...” Mrs. Yu considers the matter from many angles.

”Regarding age, we should think this way. Though second brother is a little older, I feel that his psychological age may not be that mature. His environment is just too simple. He doesn’t encounter many external things, so his thoughts aren’t complicated. This is actually good, and men generally age slower than women, a few years in difference won’t show when they are old either.”

Even she and Yu Minglang have several years of age difference, yet they get along just fine.

”But your second brother has a child, and Dong Yi hasn’t even graduated from college, starting as a stepmother isn’t quite fitting, right? Wouldn’t it be unfair for the young lady?”

Honestly, the young lady is young, and it’s her first marriage. Mrs. Yu feels it might not be prudent. On one hand, being young and not yet having settled down, who knows what the future holds. If she regrets it a few years later, her son would end up being a thrice-married man with a child. Moreover, standing in Dong Yi’s shoes, it wouldn’t be fair for her.

”Whether it’s unfair or not, it’s not up to us to say. It depends on how Dong Yi feels. From my observation, her admiration for second brother is deeply ingrained. Even if second brother just farts, she would feel it’s filled with the scent of the blue skies.”

This metaphor is a bit crude, but also apt. Dong Yi is particularly admiring of Mr. Yu, even blindly so, and whatever Mr. Yu does, she likes.

Although Qian also doesn’t know whether this is a pure woman liking a man, or because her childhood impressions of him were too good and grew into feelings, but that’s the emotion—a love that outsiders cannot emulate.
