Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 408: Chapter 382: The More You Explain, the Worse It Gets

Yu Minglang never hesitated to stand up for Chen Xiaoqian. He’d even uprooted his own aunt for messing with her. He declared that if his uncle didn’t retire early and stay home watching over his reckless wife, he’d confront his uncle head-on, no matter what.

Qu Xue just wanted to disgust Qian a bit, but she never expected to get herself into such huge trouble. Offending Yu Minglang had severe consequences, serious enough that she had to leave without saying goodbye, sneaking away from Q City because she couldn’t stay any longer. Even when she went out to buy groceries, people recognized her and spat on the ground.

Because of her urgency and guilt, she feared the man she’d just found out about what she had done and retaliate against her. Though the papers didn’t mention she was the third wheel, she had pissed off Qian so much that it was clear Qian wouldn’t let her off the hook. If Qian told the man, who was quite the local ruffian, her days would be tough. So, she packed up and left overnight without a word.

Meanwhile, Qian, other than watching Yu Minglang avenge her, didn’t do anything else.

She just asked Zheng Xu to track where Qu Xue was headed and then, silently sent an anonymous text to Qu Xue’s man with violent tendencies.

Don’t blame Chen Xiaoqian for ruining relationships or being ruthless to Qu Xue. She leaked Qu Xue’s whereabouts to Mr Li but didn’t mention Qu Xue’s past of trying to use a child to climb up the ranks as the third wheel.

If this man is interested in Qu Xue and gives chase, they might end up tangled together again, what might happen?

Whatever happens has nothing to do with Qian, it’s Qu Xue’s own fate.

”Sis, are you sure this question will definitely be on our midterm exams?”

Chen Zilong was chatting with Qian and Yu Minglang. Qian glanced at Yu Minglang, who pulled 50 bucks from his pocket, waved it in front of Chen Zilong, and then put it back.

”I’ll bet you 50 bucks; if it doesn’t come up, I’ll give you the money. If it does, you’ll be your sister’s gofer for a month. How about that?”

”But my sister is soon going back to school...”

Yu Minglang spoke warmly and with affection, ”You can owe it, and when she comes back for summer, you pay her back.”

Qian exchanged a knowing glance with him, and they both turned to look at Chen Zilong with affectionate eyes.

Chen Zilong felt a chill down his back. Although his sister and future brother-in-law’s expressions seemed gentle, why did he have the feeling he’s about to be tricked again?

Qian and Yu Minglang indeed had a tacit understanding when it came to teaming up to trick people.

Jia Xiufang was sitting on the sofa counting money, asking Yu Minglang over because she’d settled the accounts today and needed to go to the bank to deposit the money.

The building materials from the demolition had netted her more than ten thousand. With so much cash from recycling materials, Jia Xiufang didn’t risk it and let Yu Minglang accompany her for safety.

This was just the beginning. Mr. Yu said more villages were waiting in line, and this job would be given to Jia Xiufang. With her daughter and Yu Minglang’s guidance, she got skilled at these transactions. However, she still couldn’t understand one thing.

”Qian’er, what on earth is Qu Xue thinking, and will the exam questions for Da Long really include this?”

Qian and Yu Minglang were teasing the silly kid, betting 50 bucks with him that the next exam would definitely have the topic of Qu Xue falsely accusing a person who acted heroically.

Jia Xiufang was counting money but was also distracted by this story. She listened intently, feeling quite amazed.

Life is like a play; thirty years east, thirty years west. No one knows what the future holds for anyone.

In her mind, Qu Xue had transformed from a shop assistant and distant relative to the third wheel stealing someone’s husband in mere moments. And then, this third wheel planned to cause trouble and even slandered her daughter’s brave act, all within just two days.

Today, when the news hit the papers, Jia Xiufang’s phone was bombarded by former neighbors asking if the woman with the surname Qu was the salesgirl who helped her manage the shop and handled the cash years ago.

Jia Xiufang was too busy counting the money that her hands were practically numb. She had no choice but to turn off her phone until she was done, only to see a slew of messages. Good news rarely leaves the house, but bad news travels thousands of miles, and now everyone knew.

Yet, Jia Xiufang still found it hard to understand why someone would treat their lifesaver like this.

”Qian’er, how could she do this? After she stole your dad and caused my divorce with him, we didn’t even settle scores with her. You saved her too, and if she had any decency, she’d at least be thankful to you and kneel and repent for her mistakes, turning over a new leaf...”

Qian quietly looked at her naive mom, then spoke to Yu Minglang.

”After I go to school, make sure someone cuts off our cable TV.”

Jia Xiufang was puzzled, ”Why cut the TV off when I’m talking about Qu Xue?”

”You’re watching those trashy dramas and it’s frying your brain. For your own good, watch less of those, maybe read some books on Machiavellianism, study human nature. Mom, you’re half a century old, how come your thinking is so naive?”

Yu Minglang quickly pulled Qian behind him, and the bundle of cash Jia Xiufang threw hit his arm instead.

Yu Minglang apologized with a smile, ”Auntie, don’t be mad at her, she’s just a kid and she speaks without thinking, calm down.”

Qian pouted. When he was holding her, kissing and nibbling, he never said she was a kid then, did he?

Jia Xiufang pointed accusingly at Qian, ”Minglang, move aside, look at this girl, she’s been spoiled to the point she has no respect now, even with me! Today, I must tweak her a bit, her skin needs tightening, and I’ll pinch her thigh nice and hard!”

In the North, when parents discipline kids, there’s a big move: pinching the tender inside of the thigh. You don’t need to pinch much, just one touch is enough to turn it black and blue, the pain unforgettable. Anyone who hasn’t been pinched like this by their own mom would be too embarrassed to say they were Northern.

Jia Xiufang hadn’t laid a finger on Qian for a long time; she was just trying to scare her verbally. Before Qian had a chance to speak, Yu Minglang, for some inexplicable reason, blurted out, ”You can’t do that, I wouldn’t bear to pinch her, Qian’s skin is just too thin, especially her legs—”

Noticing Jia Xiufang’s awkward expression, the always wise Yu Minglang also realized that what he said sounded off.

He tried to cover it up by adding, ”I saw it in summer when she was wearing shorts.”

Making it worse, Qian sighed, couldn’t you just say less and keep quiet?

”Lang, when did my sister ever wear shorts? Her skirts are all below the knee, and Mom said buying shorts was improper...” Chen Zilong even noticed something was off.
