Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 422: Chapter 396: Just Like Their Dad

Dong Yi was about to faint after hearing Mr. Yu explain why he hurt her back in the day.

”You rejected my feelings just because of this?” She suddenly felt her tears over the past days were not worth it.

”It’s not only this. I’m divorced, you’re getting married for the first time, and I have a kid. Although Panpan is not my biological son, since I’ve adopted him, he’s my child, and I must raise him.”

”Do I have the face of a stepmother? Do I look like a woman who hits children? Can’t I raise a child?”

”No, that’s not what I meant. I’m saying, you’re still young; you shouldn’t be with an older man who has a child. Besides, Panpan has some issues, and taking care of such a child is exhausting. I can’t burden you.”

Panpan likes Dong Yi so much, which shows she’s great with kids and will be a loving mother in the future.

”Which eye of yours sees me finding it exhausting?”

Both of them, not usually talkative, were exceptionally expressive today. Dong Yi was truly shocked by his candid thoughts.

It turns out when she felt self-conscious these days, he was feeling the same way. How bizarre!

”You weren’t speaking up before, so why today?”

”Because seeing you getting yelled at made me uncomfortable. I wanted to share my real thoughts with you. Even if we’re not suitable, I need to let you know my true feelings.”

Simply put, Mr. Yu was provoked when he saw her being bullied, that’s all.

”Then let me ask you one question... you...”

Dong Yi’s face suddenly turned red. She was actually very nervous and shy but knew if she didn’t take the initiative, given Mr. Yu’s strange logical thinking, they’d be waiting till daybreak, and he still wouldn’t say the words she truly wanted to hear.

Forget it, she won’t wait for him anymore, she’ll ask!

”Yu Mingyi, do you like me?”

”We’re not a match, but you’re really great.”

Yu Mingyi’s eyes drifted around; he wasn’t looking at her.

If someone else did this, it would be a rejection of a woman’s confession. But this is Mr. Yu, anything is possible with Mr. Yu; normal logic doesn’t apply.

”Answer directly. Look me in the eyes when you reply. Don’t talk about my stance, just your own. Do you like me? Two options, answer me.”

Dong Yi asked with authority, similar to Qian working her magic, no, it was like Qian treating others. No wonder she’s Qian’s protégée; she learned some of the essence.

”I like you.”

”You... say it again.” She covered her mouth; tears instantly streamed down.

Hearing this sentence from him is worth dying for.

”I like you.”

He didn’t understand before what liking between a man and woman felt like, but after meeting her, he seems to have figured it out.

After he finished speaking, Dong Yi’s body swayed and suddenly fell to the side.

Yu Mingyi had no idea what was happening. Seeing her fall, he quickly stepped forward to catch her with his hands. Is she... fainted?

What exactly is happening? Did he really scare her? Had he known, he wouldn’t have spoken. He merely wanted to clear the confusion in her heart and tell her she’s a particularly good girl deserving better treatment, but she fainted instead...

This isn’t about being scared. It was fainting from excessive anticipation and suddenly having wishes fulfilled, like a fan who’s chased a star for many years suddenly hears the celebrity say they like her too—fainting is inevitable.

Dong Yi woke up slowly in his arms, looking at his face so close, filled with happiness like a kaleidoscope. She shyly looked down, her cheeks still warm, asking with slight greed as if coquettish.

”Could you say it again?” She truly wanted to experience that lottery-winning happiness once more.

”I was joking just now, I don’t like you.” Yu Mingyi learned his lesson; he almost scared her into a coma and this time, needs to be cautious not to frighten her again.

Dong Yi’s face turned pale, unable to experience a kaleidoscope of emotions, but instead, feeling pierced by a thousand arrows, her vision darkened, and she fainted again...

Qian and Mrs. Yu went out, supposedly shopping, but were actually at the cold drink shop near the neighborhood, each getting a drink and chatting. Panpan sat on Qian’s lap while she fed him ice cream.

”Qian, could it be that your second brother actually has something going on with your roommate...?” Mrs. Yu was naturally someone who loved gossip. Besides, with such a big issue, how could she not ask?

”Yes, you guessed right. He likes her, and she likes him, but it’s a low emotional intelligence, uncommunicative man meeting an introverted and self-deprecating woman. It reminds me of the title of the fourth Chapter of Dream of the Red Chamber, ’Pitiful Couple’, which is exactly these two lamentable individuals being drawn together.”

Mrs. Yu was amused by Qian’s words, ”How can you say such about your brother?”

”That’s the truth, Aunt. From what I see, both you and eldest brother have high emotional intelligence. Minglang has high EQ outwardly but low inside, and Xiaoxi seems to be the same as Minglang. But how did second brother get such low emotional intelligence?”

This is something Qian had long wanted to ask.

The Yu Family doesn’t lack smart individuals; with such parents, it’s unlikely to have dumb kids. Yet, when handling matters, they were completely opposite.

The eldest and the second are extreme opposites; it feels like Mr. Yu Senior is someone with high IQ and EQ with a perfect family and successful career, while Mr. Yu Junior’s IQ and EQ are inversely proportional, topped with a face that fooled people into thinking he didn’t care about anything, when in fact, he cared about everything.

The twins, facing outsiders, are like Mr. Yu Senior, but internally, like Mr. Yu Junior—truly an interesting family.

”You can’t blame me, see where it comes from—his father! Look at your uncle’s personality, so rigid and stubborn. The second one’s like him; your uncle is also that kind of person, cares deeply but expresses it differently. With men like them, you need to say what you want directly; they’ll never understand if you beat around the bush.”

Mrs. Yu was mercilessly critical of her partner of half a lifetime.

”Sometimes Minglang does that too. It seems like he’s evolved; even if I say it directly, he thinks about something else entirely. This trait, is it from uncle?”

Sometimes Qian even admires Yu Minglang’s thinking. Whenever he’s with her, his thoughts run wild, often doing things that anger her but that he believes she’ll love.

For example, placing a rat on her hand...

Rats are forever a nightmare, casting a big psychological shadow for Qian.

”Yes, he’s just like his father! Exactly! Back then, when your eldest brother was two, I was not yet with his father, he wouldn’t come home even once a year, and when he finally had time off, he spent a few days at home bringing food with his son for me.”

”Isn’t that wonderful?” Qian really couldn’t see that the stoic Mr. Yu Senior was so thoughtful in his youth!
