Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 312: Chapter 290: Winning Over the Mother-in-Law (1000+ Monthly Tickets Bonus)

”Auntie, please don’t worry. While Qian is in school for the next few years, we’ll just get engaged. We won’t get married. Whether she’s studying or not, I’ll make sure someone feeds her well. She definitely won’t go hungry!”

Jia Xiufang smacked her lips twice. This kid, too clever!

It wasn’t that Jia Xiufang was against Qian getting engaged, she just felt it was a bit early. Her daughter just started college and she would have a few more years there. Even though there was nothing wrong with Yu Minglang, she wanted to give her daughter some time to adjust. After all, in her heart, Qian was still a child.

”Auntie, rest assured, after the engagement, the two of us will maintain our current simple relationship. I absolutely won’t put Qian in a difficult position or force her to do anything. We’ve been together for a while now and we both feel it’s right, so it’s time to settle down.”

”She’s still young...”

”Yes, Qian is indeed very young now, so I need to take extra care of her. Auntie, her periods are a bit irregular, probably due to her physical condition, so I’ve already asked my mother to help her regulate her body. Please don’t worry, Qian will surely be healthy.”

Qian widened her eyes, Yu Minglang, do you have any shame?!

He’s blurted about her period and dares to brag about it everywhere?

Speaking like this, mom will get the wrong idea!

Sure enough, upon hearing this, Jia Xiufang thought, what, even her daughter’s period issues are known?

She immediately glared at Qian, this naughty girl, what on earth have you done? Prepare for a broken leg!

Yu Minglang quickly smiled, ”Auntie, I know what should and shouldn’t be done. Please be assured, I won’t put Qian in a difficult position, and I’ll also care about Qian’s reputation.”

His words were so ambiguous, making anyone’s heart race upon hearing them.

In Jia Xiufang’s generation’s eyes, if such things have been done, then they’re practically married. Yu Minglang’s words left Jia Xiufang with no choice but to suppress her unhappiness and keep a straight face as she asked.

”How does your family see it?”

”My mother is coming over tomorrow, wanting to officially propose to you. My elder brother will also be here. My dad is at a conference out of town and can’t make it. My mother’s intention is to officially meet with you first, and then once my father is back, he’ll come over to talk with you.”

Hearing Yu Minglang say this, Jia Xiufang’s anger subsided somewhat.

It sounded like they really valued this matter; even the parents wanted to come. She shot another glare at Qian.

That naughty girl, daring to sleep together before marriage, without considering if marrying into a family that makes trouble could make her unable to hold her head up forever!

A girl’s chastity is such an important thing!

Although Jia Xiufang divorced Chen Lin, she didn’t want others to think her daughter was so casual, already throwing herself at someone before marriage.

Qian could only reach around and pinch Yu Minglang’s waist hard!

You shameless person, this is how you handle my mom?

Jia Xiufang now firmly believed that Qian and Yu Minglang had already done that. After all, even her irregular periods were casually mentioned. Who would believe nothing happened!

But in truth, the relationship with Yu Minglang was very innocent. Though he’s touchy-feely, he really doesn’t cross the line. He has boundaries.

Now it’s impossible to explain, no matter what.

It’s best to keep it like this for now.

The mindset of parents can often be quite delicate.

If Yu Minglang didn’t handle it this way, Jia Xiufang wouldn’t be willing to let her daughter get engaged so soon. Sure, she nearly let her daughter marry a scumbag before, but back then she wasn’t in charge, thinking Qian hadn’t gotten into college and had no better prospects, so she just considered that.

But now it’s different. She can make decisions herself, Qian is attending a good school, and the family isn’t lacking money, so naturally, she wants to arrange everything perfectly for her daughter, delaying as much as possible.

But with the way Yu Minglang hinted, Jia Xiufang instantly changed her attitude.

If Qian had already done that with him, then this matter had to be taken seriously. If the man’s parents are sincere and respectful of her daughter, there’s no harm in setting an engagement.

If it gets out that her daughter was with someone before marriage, it’d be too scandalous to say the least. Yu Minglang has good conditions all around, and finding someone better than him wouldn’t be easy.

In the span of a few minutes, Jia Xiufang quickly reshuffled her feelings, catching sight of the blackened wall that Qian had burnt.

”Minglang, you’ve finally come back home. The kitchen has been burnt to such a state by Qian, so let’s not stay at home. Let’s eat out; Auntie hasn’t treated you to a meal yet.”

Chen Zilong’s mouth gaped in an O-shape in astonishment.

His mom had just seemed like she couldn’t wait to sweep Yu Minglang out the door, and now she suddenly became so friendly?

”Mom, you’re usually such a penny-pincher, and now you agree to eat out?” Chen Zilong exclaimed in surprise.

”Nonsense! This is your sister and your Lang—no, it’s now time to call him brother-in-law.” After opening her mind, Jia Xiufang realized more and more that Yu Minglang was the perfect candidate for a son-in-law.

”Brother-in-law!” Chen Zilong quickly changed his greeting, already looking expectantly as if waiting for a red envelope.

Yu Minglang, always straightforward, immediately pulled out his wallet, taking out a wad of hundred-yuan bills, making Chen Zilong’s eyes light up with desire.

Just as he was about to reach out, Qian reached over, pulled out one bill, and stuffed the rest back into Yu Minglang’s wallet.

Chen Zilong pouted.

”Just one bill, sis, you’re so stingy!”

Brother-in-law just pulled out a few thousand!

”Think it’s too little? Give it back!” Qian attempted to snatch it, Chen Zilong quickly stashed it in his pocket, looking pitiful enough that Yu Minglang wanted to give him more, considering it a fee for the name change.

Qian slapped his hand away and took another bill.

”This is plenty. If you dare to ask for more, I’ll take it all back. Spend wisely, and don’t spend it on those shady people, got it?”

”Got it, thank you brother-in-law. My brother-in-law is so generous!” Chen Zilong beamed so widely that his eyes almost disappeared, happily calling ”brother-in-law” again and again.

Once outside, Yu Minglang went to hail a cab, while Jia Xiufang pulled Qian upstairs, complaining while changing clothes.

”You kid, how many times have I told you not to get too close to him? Now look, now you have to get engaged! Wait till we come back tonight, see if I don’t punish you!”

”Mom, it’s not what you think. I just feel like being engaged is no different from now. He’s currently working hard on his career, and I need to help relieve his worries. If we’re engaged, he’ll have a goal and can focus more on safety.”

Qian, after spending less than three days in the countryside, had come to understand everything.

She was afraid her presence would hold Yu Minglang back, but after this incident, Qian realized that everyone’s destiny is their own. Instead of rejecting Yu Minglang and letting him live with regrets forever, it was better to give him a stable home, providing him hope.

Of course, for her, having a clumsy man who knew how to care for her wasn’t a bad idea either.
