Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 308: Chapter 286: Scheming Qian

In order to show his sincerity, Yu Minglang specifically instructed someone to wrap the bouquet as luxuriously as possible, but it turned out to be too luxurious.

When he entered the door, he casually tossed the flowers aside, and the ribbon got tangled with the lace tablecloth at Chen Xiaoqian’s house.

The bouquet was so big that it was pressing down; Yu Minglang had no idea what was going on, so when he tugged at it and it didn’t come off, he just pulled harder.

Then, he ended up lifting the tablecloth as well, toppling the fruit platter on the table. The giant apple, bought by the recently affluent and very capricious Jia Xiufang, fell right on Qian’s freshly sprained foot.

”Ah!” Qian yelped in pain, and Yu Minglang threw the flowers to the ground again, rushing over to check on her, only to be pummeled by Qian.

”Get out of here! I realize you’re a jinx; nothing good happens when you’re close to me. Go! Don’t let me see you for two days!!!”

She was practically seething with anger.

Yu Minglang was both heartbroken and annoyed, holding Qian and letting her beat him without letting go.

”Qian, I’m sorry, I’m sorry.”

”If an apology could fix everything, then what’s the use of Cartier making so many rings!”

Yu Minglang finally understood Qian’s hint and quickly took out the ring he had just bought from his pocket.

Turning around, he even thought about grabbing the unlucky bouquet that had been thrown again and again, and Qian finally gave in.

”Don’t bother with the flowers, just act normal!”

Yu Minglang got down on one knee and opened the ring box.

”Chen Xiaoqian, will you agree to get engaged to me, become my fiancée, and when you feel the time is right, we’ll get married? This isn’t a Cartier ring, but could you settle for it for now? I’ll save up my salary next month to buy you one...”

Poor Yu Xiaoqiang, he had given all his savings to Qian and even borrowed money to buy a proposal ring.

Qian actually wanted to put on a bit of a front and act difficult, but considering how this quirky Xiaoqiang might do anything, she decided to stop while she was ahead. If she overdid it, who knows what shameless thing Yu Minglang might do again.

She couldn’t hold him to too high a standard. With a guy like him, she had to be straightforward; if she was even slightly indirect, he wouldn’t get it.

”Who gets to have the final say at home?”

”Everything listens to you.”

”Who does housework?”

”I’ll do it when I’m home, and if I’m not, I appreciate you taking it on.”

”After we’re engaged, your salary—”

”All handed over!”

”If you have time—”

”Then I’ll come and be with you!”

”Things you shouldn’t do?”

”Absolutely won’t do — what exactly counts as things I shouldn’t do?”

”You can’t get too close to other women, can’t not support my work, and can’t be overly jealous.”

”...This is an unfair treaty; I can’t get too close to women, and you have to work and come into contact with men. I can’t even get jealous.”

This was practically an unfair treaty against the natural order.

”You can also choose not to agree.”

”I agree!” Yu Minglang’s stance now was whatever she said goes, just afraid she wouldn’t agree with him.

”Don’t think you can just promise with words. If you can’t do what you promised me, don’t just think about the engagement, even after we’re married, I’ll still kick you out!”

Qian was quite at ease pushing Yu Minglang.

She never believed herself to be an especially good woman; she was a bad one. When Yu Minglang sought her out, she had told him that since they decided to take their relationship a step further, they’d better say what needs to be said early on, otherwise, they couldn’t live together later.

”Let me make the ugliness clear up front. I’m not gentle, I’m not virtuous, apart from working and earning money, I can’t do anything. You can get me to clean the house and wash clothes, but don’t make me cook, I can’t do it, and I don’t plan to learn. I occasionally have a bad temper; if you can take it, great. If not, you’ll have to find a way to take it.”

Yu Minglang was still kneeling on one knee, listening to her long list, amused.

”Qian, these terms you’ve set are really unfair.”

”There’s nothing I can do. I’m used to striking first before being polite. I’m letting you know the tough stuff first. Yu Minglang, you’ve invested a lot in me, and I have an obligation to let you know what kind of woman you’ve chosen. If you’re looking for the housewife type who cooks and raises kids, that’s definitely not me. But I won’t interfere with your freedom, aside from my bottom lines; if you’re with me, I won’t limit you, you’ll have plenty of freedom.”

Probably feeling she sounded too harsh, Qian finally found herself a redeeming quality with some difficulty.

Meanwhile, outside in the courtyard, Jia Xiufang and Chen Zilong were listening intently. Jia Xiufang had come back to fetch something she forgot and happened to overhear this scene.

She almost fainted.

Could her daughter still get married acting like this?

Though she wasn’t mentally prepared for her daughter to get engaged so soon.

But this was a bit too much.

Jia Xiufang couldn’t stand it anymore and wanted to push the door open, but her son grabbed her arm.

”Mom, don’t stir things up. Didn’t you hear my sister already has it under control?”

”Nonsense!”

”I feel like Lang must be thoroughly enjoying himself now. If he had any objections, he would’ve already lost his temper with my sister. Haven’t these two always been great together?”

Jia Xiufang eyed him suspiciously.

”Why are you acting so weird today?” Always speaking up for Yu Minglang, as if you had been bribed by him.

”How am I weird? I’m just looking out for my sister’s best interests...”

Chen Zilong cleared his throat nervously.

Actually, before Lang came, he made a call to the landline, saying if it worked out, he’d treat him to good food.

Chen Zilong, ever the pushover, readily agreed.

”I’m still going in to have a look; they didn’t tell me about this at all.” Jia Xiufang felt conflicted, knowing it was just an engagement yet also feeling it was a bit early.

”What are you going in for? It’s my sister who’s getting engaged, not you. Mom, instead of worrying about my sister, you might as well think about finding me a stepdad—Ah!”

Chen Zilong clutched his backside, where a size-38 shoe print from Jia Xiufang remained.

With the feckless brother-in-law already prepped, Yu Minglang continued his diligent proposal.

”As long as you don’t make me betray the country or the family, I agree to everything you said today.”

Qian’s eyes sparkled; his consent was exactly what she wanted to hear. She extended her hand, and Yu Minglang, holding the ring box in his mouth, slipped the ring onto her finger, the size just right.

Though not particularly large, the ring was very nice, petite, and understated. Qian thought it wouldn’t be a problem for her to wear it to school.

Looking at the ring on her middle finger, symbolizing commitment, Qian finally delivered her encore line.

”I’ll be able to earn money in the future, and maybe a lot, so I’m giving you a heads-up. If you want to be with me, don’t start any trouble over this issue later.”

Qian was worried this issue might intimidate him, which is why she deliberately waited until the ring was on her finger to bring it up.

Crafty Qian, she made sure he had no chance of regret!
