Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 146: Chapter 146: Do You Want a Divorce?

Qian entered the house, and Jia Xiufang saw she was back. She quickly stood up to put the food Qian bought in the microwave to heat up, but Qian pressed her down onto the sofa.

”I’m not hungry. Mom, are you feeling any better?”

”Ah... What can I do whether I’m good or bad? I can’t control him. He can do whatever he likes.” Jia Xiufang was originally distressed upon hearing that Qu Xue might have a child.

Buying food for Qian, seeing the neon lights of Night Shanghai, her heart calmed down again. She was sad but not as entangled.

Jia Xiufang still had two children to raise, and since that man ran off with another woman, she couldn’t dwell too much on it.

”The old lady kept mentioning you all afternoon. You really are something. Of all things, you chose to say you were pregnant, getting the old lady all worked up.”

”Wasn’t that because things were tense? If I hadn’t said so, Qu Xue would have gone to my grandmother to make trouble. Do you think my grandmother could handle the stress without falling ill?”

The old lady is still quite traditional. If she knew her son divorced and was entangled with another woman outside, she would definitely not bear it.

”Ah, I saw your grandmother quite stressed too. Although she’s divorced from your dad, your grandmother never mistreated us before. I don’t know how to handle this.”

Qian nodded, ”You should just handle things as you’ve been doing. Right now, my grandmother doesn’t know about your divorce, so don’t reveal it. She’s older, can’t endure even a bit of shock. If it comes to that, let Chen Lin talk to her.”

”Ah, this seems the only way to deal with it. But I feel uneasy inside. Your grandmother was very concerned about you today, plus I divorced your dad...”

After calling her ”mom” for half a lifetime, suddenly divorcing made everything awkward, even interactions felt awkward.

”Don’t worry about what others do; as long as you have a clear conscience, that’s enough. Tomorrow, make some dumplings. I’ll take them to my grandmother. She loves your dumplings. Then make some for my brother too, and I’ll deliver them. You don’t have to go; I’ll handle things with Qu Xue myself. You need not worry.”

”Qian’er, your brother won’t be in trouble, will he? When will you bring him back?” Mentioning her son, Jia Xiufang became distressed again.

The child hadn’t called in the past two days, and she didn’t know how he was doing.

”He should be coming back in these days. I’ll see how he behaves tomorrow before deciding.” Qian reached up to tidy her hair, and Jia Xiufang suddenly noticed the gold bracelet on her wrist.

”Where did that come from?”

”Yu Minglang’s mother gave it to me.” Qian took off the bracelet, and Jia Xiufang angrily tapped her forehead.

”You silly girl, you didn’t even tell me when going to his house! Did you go empty-handed?”

Knowing Yu Minglang’s family was well-off, she worried her daughter might be underestimated. She hadn’t taught her the necessary etiquette for the first visit, and didn’t know how her daughter performed.

”No, Yu Minglang bought fruit. Could I go empty-handed?”

”What are his family like? Were they warm to you? Did they make you do any chores?”

”His dad is a businessman, he used to be a pilot, his mom’s a doctor. I also met his elder brother and sister-in-law; they had no issues. They were quite warm to me. They have a little aunt, so I didn’t have to do anything.”

Jia Xiufang was still worried. ”Do you think they’re satisfied with you?”

Qian laughed at her mother’s unnecessary anxiety. ”My mom raised me well, and I speak and act properly. How could anyone find fault?”

”True enough. They gave such a heavy gold bracelet just like that. How could they not be satisfied? This thing is too valuable, I’ll keep it for you. Give it to you when you marry. If you two can’t work out, you’d have to return it.”

Jia Xiufang always felt uneasy about how well-off Yu Minglang’s family was, especially with a housekeeper, and giving such an expensive gift at the first meeting left her unsettled.

”That glass bracelet you’re wearing is inexpensive, you could wear it for fun. Chen Xiaoqian, I must tell you, it’s their money; you can’t just accept anything, got it? We may not have much, but we can’t let them look down on us! You two aren’t married yet!”

Qian chuckled; jade being considered cheap was just as funny as the joke about Cartier not being real gold.

Hugging her mother’s neck, ”I know, Mom. Everyone praises me for being well-mannered, which is because my mom taught me well.”

”Really?” Jia Xiufang loved hearing this. Qian nodded; if it weren’t for comparing siblings-in-law, she wouldn’t hold such a high place in Mrs. Yu’s heart.

Jia Xiufang let go of Chen Lin and Qu Xue’s insignificant matters and pursued her daughter, asking about the details of meeting her future mother-in-law for the first time, comprehensively judging Qian’s performance was acceptable, she felt relieved.

The mother and daughter talked for quite a while until Qian went upstairs, returning to her room, sneakily placing the naked baby picture of Minglang she stole from Yu Minglang’s house in her wallet, covering it with a mini phone book for concealment.

Yu Minglang’s private photo couldn’t be seen by anyone else but her.

After coming out of her mother-in-law’s house, Wang Xiaohong was fuming. She vented to her mom for a while at home, still couldn’t get rid of her frustration, so she dialed Yu Mingyi.

Yu Mingyi had just hung up on Yu Minglang, assuming his brother was calling again.

”Yu Mingyi, your family is really pushing me around!” Wang Xiaohong’s voice came through, and Yu Mingyi calmly put on speaker.

”Hmm.” He opened his files to read.

”How can your mom treat me like this!”

”Hmm.” He picked up his pen and annotated.

”She was way out of line today. The youngest brought his girlfriend home, your mom gave her a bracelet, and the sister-in-law also gifted things, forcing me to give up my favorite earrings!”

Wang Xiaohong babbled for a long time without a response, so she raised her voice.

”Yu Mingyi, are you listening to me?”

”Hmm.”

”What did I say?”

Yu Mingyi had read half the document. Hearing her question, he calmly continued writing.

”Don’t you know what you’ve been saying yourself?”

”Yu Mingyi!!” Wang Xiaohong was practically infuriated. It was always like this. She’d say a lot, and he’d never respond, so with anger, she repeated the bracelet matter.

Yu Mingyi paused his pen, rubbing his temples, ”Don’t you also have a bracelet?”

What is there to make a fuss about?

”My one was given at our wedding, and why should his girlfriend get one right away? Isn’t that looking down on me?”

”Hmm.” Yu Mingyi continued to write, too lazy to listen to her further antics.

Wang Xiaohong was about to explode. No matter what she said, all she got was a ”Hmm.” Life with such a man was hopeless.

”Yu Mingyi, I want to divorce you!”

”Hmm?” Yu Mingyi paused his pen, ”Are you sure you want a divorce?”

Wang Xiaohong was just bluffing. She didn’t dare actually divorce.

”I-I was just saying it casually. Didn’t you disagree with divorce? If I could leave, I would have long gone.” Wang Xiaohong said sheepishly, having almost hung the word divorce on her lips, saying it from time to time.

But hearing it from Yu Mingyi’s mouth was a first.

”I respect your choice. Do you want to divorce?”
