Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 121: Chapter 121: So It Was Her

Dong Yi felt as though Chen Xiaoqian had opened a magical door for him, and his admiration for her grew imperceptibly.

But Chen Xiaoqian’s heart was preoccupied with the innocent child, and she gazed somewhat sadly at the window.

”I’ve neglected this subject before, and I’ll definitely make up for it in the future. Dong Yi, do you know what the scariest thing in the world is?”

”What?”

”Ninety percent of people have to become parents, but not everyone is qualified to be someone else’s parent. We need a license to drive, a professional doctor certification to practice medicine, and even a psychologist needs a Level 3 psychologist certification. Everyone plays the role of ’parent,’ and yet it requires no examination; anyone who wants to can, which is terrifying.”

Dong Yi seemed to understand but was still confused as he looked at Chen Xiaoqian.

”When I think about how many unworthy people are raising their children in a muddled way, it pains me. The more failed parents there are, the more failed children there will be. Almost all people with psychological distortions have a failed parent, whether due to spoiling or lack of care and attention.”

As Chen Xiaoqian spoke, she became increasingly sad, and she thought of her daughter.

”You will definitely be a very excellent mother in the future,” Dong Yi said sincerely.

Chen Xiaoqian shook her head, her eyes reddened.

”I am not.” So, she dared not have more children before she felt she could pass the crucial ”life exam” of being a ”mother.”

If only in the past life she could have spent more time with her daughter, the tragedy wouldn’t have occurred. Raising a child is not just about providing them with meals; it requires plenty of care and love. Only by filling a child’s heart with love can the occurrence of psychological problems be reduced.

The mother with anxiety just now was clearly not qualified to raise a child.

At this moment, Chen Xiaoqian was completely different from her usual self, as if... Dong Yi pondered and felt that Chen Xiaoqian seemed separated by another world.

Not far from KFC, the woman Dong Yi had just bumped into stood anxiously by the road, looking around.

A car drove up, and Wang Xiaobo got out.

”Sister, brother-in-law asked me to pick you up.”

”Why didn’t Yu Mingyi come? I’ve been waiting here forever, and I just got bumped by a woman rushing like she was reincarnating.” Wang Xiaoli was very unsatisfied. She had come all the way to see Yu Mingyi, and he didn’t even come personally. She had just been tormented by two crazy women, and her irritability only grew.

”Who knows? He said there’s a cultural performance that needs his review, and he wouldn’t let me drive the company car. His own car ran out of gas, so I borrowed one. Don’t tell him, or else brother-in-law will scold me again.”

”Cultural performance... Are there lots of young girls there?” Wang Xiaohong thought of the scene, and her heart felt like thousands of ants were crawling over it.

”Plenty, anyway. Sister, you better manage him; he doesn’t treat me like a person...”

The sisters’ conversation drifted away with the wind. On the other side, Chen Xiaoqian and Dong Yi came out of KFC, boarded the bus, and drove off in opposite directions.

On the way back to school, Chen Xiaoqian and Dong Yi sat side by side on the bus seats. Dong Yi watched the scenery outside, passing station by station. She didn’t turn her head to look at Chen Xiaoqian, just spoke softly into the air.

”What do you think my situation is?”

Although Chen Xiaoqian was also a student, she felt unfathomable. From just a few simple words, Chen Xiaoqian could diagnose that woman’s condition, which gave Dong Yi some vague hope.

”You haven’t opened up to tell me your situation, so I can only observe your current behavior. You seem to have a tendency toward isolation syndrome, but the specific degree needs further assessment.”

”...Will I go crazy?”

”There are many types of psychological disorders. If it’s mild, time can heal it. But if it’s severe, external help is needed. Dong Yi, if you’re ready to be honest with me, I’m willing to help you anytime, but there’s one condition.”

Dong Yi turned her head, ”What is it?”

”It has to be soon. Before I completely regard you as a friend, this is the best time. Once we become friends, I won’t be able to treat you. Then you’ll need to find other psychologists.”

Chen Xiaoqian knew the best psychologist in this city should be her advisor, Liu Linlin.

”Why can’t you treat me once we become friends?”

”It’s an unwritten rule in our industry; we can’t develop emotional ties with patients—friendship, love, kinship—all prohibited. Once the consulting relationship extends beyond the consulting room, the psychologist loses neutrality. Without neutrality, the illness cannot be treated.”

This was also why Chen Xiaoqian took so long to mentally prepare Jia Xiufang for divorce. If it weren’t for her mother, it would’ve taken no more than three sessions. Because of familial bonds, establishing this relationship took longer, and only roundabout methods achieved the goal.

”Following you, I seem to learn many things.”

”So, you should hurry while my goodwill toward you hasn’t yet reached friendship level, and let me treat you.”

There’s a strange magnetic field between people, just one look and you know who can be a friend. Despite Dong Yi’s coldness, Chen Xiaoqian didn’t dislike her. She had to restrain herself from not disliking Dong Yi because she wanted to take Dong Yi’s case.

”Give me some time... I need to think.”

Dong Yi chose this major mainly to treat herself. Upon hearing Chen Xiaoqian’s implication that illnesses among doctors could be more severe, and that it’s hard to self-treat, she hesitated. Yet, she couldn’t completely expose her vulnerable self to Chen Xiaoqian, so she remained undecided.

Chen Xiaoqian didn’t pressure her because in her heart, she already had an answer.

Dong Yi would seek her help sooner or later; it was just a matter of time.

This apprentice, she was determined to accept.

...

The fear Lin Xuanhua felt after being frightened by Chen Xiaoqian and Dong Yi lingered until evening before fading.

Calculating that the rehearsal should be over, she sought out the Science College’s student council where Chen Xiaoqian was. Although the program was registered as a dormitory unit, it was still under the management of the student council where Chen Xiaoqian’s college was.

”Has Chen Xiaoqian’s group rehearsed?” Lin Xuanhua asked a member she knew from the college’s student council.

Thinking of Chen Xiaoqian’s program, the student council member swallowed nervously and nodded.

Feeling the reaction was somewhat strange, Lin Xuanhua asked further.

”How many people went on stage?”

”Three, there was one absence... Qian said it didn’t matter, the three of them went up.”

The absent one was the fourth person from Chen Xiaoqian’s dormitory, who hadn’t shown up since the beginning of term.

”Why do you call her Qian too?” Lin Xuanhua expressed dissatisfaction.

She thought she had already won everyone over.
