Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 114: Chapter 114: Not Very Happy

Yu Mingyi’s home is in Q City. Originally, he wanted his wife and their under-two-year-old son Panpan to come live with him in the housing provided by his work unit, but his wife Wang Xiaohong disagreed.

Yu Mingyi had the means to let his wife and son live with him, but Wang Xiaohong wasn’t interested in the housing provided by the company. In Q City, Yu Mingyi, like Minglang, bought a two-story house from his elder brother. Wang Xiaohong brought her mother over to live with them, and she worked at Mr. Yu’s company with excellent benefits, so she didn’t want to move as there wouldn’t be a good job for her.

So every time Yu Mingyi had time off, he would drive over two hours to go home to see his wife and son.

For many people, home should be a warm haven.

But every time the car drove into the borders of Q City, Yu Mingyi felt a heaviness in his heart, feeling worse each time he returned.

A townhouse with a small independent yard—those who lived in these were typically very wealthy.

The townhouses looked much the same, and Yu Mingyi could find his home with his eyes closed, not because he missed home so much, but because from afar, as long as he could hear the chickens, ducks, geese, dogs, and cats in the yard, he knew where his home was.

His mother-in-law had come from the countryside. The whole family lived with him, and they raised many poultry in the yard. His own mother sometimes came to visit, but ever since she was chased and bitten by the goose in the yard, she seldom came.

Yu Mingyi stood at the door, adjusted his mood, took a deep breath, and pushed open the door.

His brother-in-law, the clerk Wang Xiaobo, also followed him in. The two walked into the house one after the other, and a feather duster flew at Yu Mingyi the moment he entered, which he dodged sideways.

His wife was sitting on the sofa, crying hysterically, and his mother-in-law was beside her trying to comfort her.

”Xiaohong, don’t cry. Besides Mom feeling sorry for you when you cry, who else will care about your well-being?”

”Yu Mingyi, you are not human!” Wang Xiaohong cried with a runny nose and tears streaming down.

Yu Mingyi was used to such chaotic scenes. His eyes swept around the room, and he saw his son in the baby stroller in the living room, crying at the top of his lungs. He walked straight over, picked up his son, and gently patted him.

”What’s the matter this time?” He had gotten so used to Wang Xiaohong making a scene every time he returned, it was almost strange if she didn’t.

”You heartless man, I work hard at home taking care of your child, and you’re out there finding other women!” Wang Xiaohong took the tissue handed over by her mom and blew her nose hard.

Her voice was somewhat loud, disturbing their son in Yu Mingyi’s arms, making him pout again. The child was almost two years old and still couldn’t speak well. Yu Mingyi was always worried about his son and didn’t want to argue with Wang Xiaohong in front of him.

From years of marriage experience, he knew that if he said one sentence, Wang Xiaohong could have more than a dozen waiting for him. The more he spoke, the more spirited she became. Over time, he had learned to deal with arguments with silence; after crying and fussing sufficiently, she would calm down.

Seeing Yu Mingyi say nothing and carry the child upstairs, Wang Xiaohong cried even louder, continually complaining to her mother.

Yu Mingyi took his son upstairs to the bedroom, closed the door to block out the noise from downstairs, and only then did his serious face soften a bit as he looked at his son in his arms. The child was very thin and more sensitive than others his age. The smallest matter would make him cry, and even now he could only say a few simple words.

”Papa...” That was one of the few words the child could say. He was very dependent on Yu Mingyi, and although he rarely saw him, he was always happy each time.

Yu Mingyi held him, gently patting his child, walking a few laps around the room. The child, with tears, lay in his dad’s arms and fell asleep.

Yu Mingyi put his son on the bed, and just as he covered him with the blanket, the door slammed open, and a tearful Wang Xiaohong rushed in.

”Yu Mingyi, today you have to make yourself clear to me. If not, then we divorce!”

Here we go again... Yu Mingyi glanced at his son who had just fallen asleep, patting him lightly a couple of times, only then turning his head to Wang Xiaohong and saying, ”Let’s talk outside.”

”Why should I go out! This is my home!” Wang Xiaohong was still angry.

”Out.” Yu Mingyi rarely spoke so heavily at home. Wang Xiaohong, accustomed to taking advantage of his patience, hesitated when she heard he seemed genuinely unhappy. She didn’t dare say more and retreated from the room. Seeing his son’s thin little face, Yu Mingyi finally got up and went out.

Once in another room, Wang Xiaohong first studied Yu Mingyi’s expression, and seeing no particular anger, she continued speaking.

”Why did it take so long for you to come back? Didn’t you say you could be home by morning?”

”I had things to do.”

”What things? Seeing a female student! You even gave her your phone number! Yu Mingyi, how have I wronged you, for you to do this? You haven’t come home in years; have I ever said anything to you?”

”Haven’t you said enough?”

Wang Xiaohong paused; indeed, she hadn’t said little, but that wasn’t the point.

”How long have you been with that woman, when did you meet her, and how far have you developed? If you don’t make things clear today, I’ll go to see your old man with Panpan and make him see that there’s no good man in the Yu Family!”

Wang Xiaohong, often unreasonable when she got excited, said the harshest things without hesitation.

”Don’t involve my family in this,” Yu Mingyi had long developed immunity to such things. As long as she didn’t mention his family, he would often turn a blind eye to her tantrums.

”What’s so wrong if I mention your family? Yu Mingyi, your family looks down on me. You let them bully me just like you look down on me, which is why you went out to find a female student.”

Wang Xiaohong felt very aggrieved. Everyone envied her for marrying into a wealthy family, but she felt she was greatly wronged, as her husband didn’t come home for years and his family didn’t help her at all.

”Mom told me, your sister’s education level isn’t enough to work in a hospital, it’s not because they look down on you. Can you stop overthinking things, what female student?”

Such pointless arguing went on nearly every once in a while.

”How is her education not enough? She attended vocational health school for years, isn’t your mom the deputy director? It’s just a matter of her saying a word, how could it not be possible? She looks down on my family!”

”That’s the hospital’s policy. They just restructured this year, and nurses have to have an associate degree. You can let your sister continue her education; she can get an associate degree later and try then.”

Yu Mingyi wasn’t a man skilled at explanations, but he was always more tolerant of Wang Xiaohong, partly because she was the woman he insisted on marrying, and he had an undeniable responsibility for her.

More importantly, taking care of Wang Xiaohong was a promise made to his brother; his chosen path, no matter how difficult, had to be walked to the end.
