Return of the Antagonistic Lady Boss

Chapter 120: Chapter 120: Physicians Cannot Heal Themselves (700+ Monthly Ticket Update)

Qian dragged Dong Yi to shop for clothes.

She couldn’t find what she wanted at the clothing stores near the university town, so they took a bus to the city. One of the garments Qian needed could only be rented from a bridal shop. After sorting out the clothes, as they were leaving, Dong Yi accidentally bumped into a woman.

”I’m sorry!” Dong Yi immediately bowed her head, helping the woman pick up the things from the ground.

She had bumped into the woman, causing her bag to overturn and all the medications inside to spill out.

The woman was furious.

”Are you blind? How can you walk like this!”

”I’m sorry!” Dong Yi kept apologizing, swiftly picking up the items.

Meanwhile, Qian was looking at the baby stroller that the woman was pushing.

In it, there sat a child with a blank expression, seemingly under 2 years old. Qian felt there was something off about the child’s gaze.

She lowered her head, preparing to help Dong Yi pick up the medicine, and was stunned when she saw the medication labels.

This is...

Medication for the treatment of gynecological infections, and... drugs prescribed by neurology for treating anxiety disorder. The appearance of these two types of medicine together stirred a bad feeling in Qian’s heart.

She carefully observed the woman pushing the stroller and then looked at the child in the stroller. Considering the medications, she seemed to have understood something.

Dong Yi had already picked up the medicines, repeatedly apologizing to the woman, who continued to berate her.

”Excuse me, ma’am, I have to ask, are these medications all for you?” Qian spoke up.

The woman replied unhappily, ”None of your business!”

Dong Yi looked at Qian in surprise. Chen Xiaoqian was definitely not someone who meddled in others’ affairs. What made her suddenly ask such a rude question?

”Please, when you have time, go to a proper neurology department for a check-up. For the child’s sake, it really can’t be delayed anymore.” Qian looked at the child in the stroller, feeling very uneasy.

Her obsessive-compulsive disorder would flare up at the sight of an unfortunate child.

”What did you say?” The woman was bewildered.

”Though I don’t know what you’ve been through, please immediately inform your spouse to accompany you for treatment. Because you are already affecting this child, for the sake of the child’s normal development, please go to the neurology department or find a qualified psychologist.”

”Smack!” The woman pushed Qian without hesitation, ”You’re crazy!”

Qian endured the discomfort from her obsessive-compulsive disorder and grasped the woman’s hand, seriously saying, ”Please make sure to see a psychologist, Professor Liu Linlin from BD Normal University can also help you. For the child, don’t delay.”

”So annoying, let go!” The woman pushed Qian away, glanced at her as if looking at a lunatic, and quickly left with the child in the stroller.

”Qian, why did you say that—” Dong Yi was about to ask Qian but was startled by her overly pale face.

”Find a water source.” The only thing Qian could do now was to wash her hands.

She went into a nearby KFC and washed for several minutes until she calmed her agitated emotions.

Dong Yi looked at her with concern, ”Qian, what’s wrong?”

”When you get to your third-year professional courses, you’ll learn that I have a hand-washing compulsive disorder.”

After walking for a while and feeling a bit tired, they sat down in KFC. Qian bought a Coke, but Dong Yi, being very frugal, didn’t buy anything. Qian offered to buy her something but was refused.

Qian didn’t insist, knowing that with someone like Dong Yi, one had to be mindful of boundaries. Otherwise, it might cause her discomfort.

”What’s obsessive-compulsive disorder?”

”Simply put, it’s a common mental illness. However, if a psychologist has a mental illness, it’s very difficult to treat, just like how oncologists die faster than ordinary people when they get cancer because they know too much and lose confidence. So, Dong Yi, choosing psychology as your major was a mistake.”

Dong Yi seemed quite shocked.

Qian stirred the Coke in her cup with a straw.

”When you truly consider me a friend, please let me help you. If I can cure you, I swear, you will definitely be the best psychologist in the future. You have the qualities a psychologist should have.” If cured, Dong Yi would have to sign a freelancing contract and would be invaluable when Qian opened a studio in the future.

Qian had observed Dong Yi’s situation for a long time. Although she wasn’t sure of the specific condition yet, she was certain that Dong Yi had psychological issues.

”Why did you say that about the woman with the child just now?” Dong Yi avoided talking about her own issues.

Qian wasn’t in a hurry to make her believe in her, knowing that it was a process. She was confident she’d eventually be able to treat Dong Yi, and for now, she could just view her as her student.

The female psychology Ph.D. giving special guidance to a beginner in her field would not happen if Chen Xiaoqian didn’t particularly value Dong Yi’s abilities.

”That woman’s face was tense, her brows furrowed, and she looked anxious. She was also carrying paroxetine tablets, duloxetine, and several calming traditional Chinese medicines.”

”What do those two western medicines you mentioned do?”

”They are antidepressant and anti-anxiety drugs, especially that paroxetine tablet, which is a first-choice treatment for anxiety disorder. Considering her facial expressions and irritable demeanor, I judged that she might have issues related to anxiety disorder.”

This is what makes a top-notch psychologist, who can deduce matters from someone’s mental state.

”Then why did you suggest she see a doctor with her spouse?”

”Anxiety disorders come with many complications, and the most terrifying one... let’s hope she’s not affected by it.” Qian thought of the woman’s gynecological infection medication. Although she wasn’t diagnosing, she was certain the woman likely had anxiety related to sexual issues, hoping it wasn’t the worst kind.

”What’s the connection to the child?” From the start, Dong Yi had been following Qian due to her benefactor, and now, she was thoroughly fascinated by Qian’s expertise in psychology treatment.

”In a family, changes in any member can cause a chain reaction among family members. When there is a patient with a mental illness, it can often lead others to become ill. That child just now had a very vacant look and lacked the curiosity about the world that one would expect for someone of that age, as if he was uninterested in everything happening around him. I judged that the child was affected.”

”Can such a small child also have psychological issues?”

”Psychology is divided into several categories. The field I specialize in is applied psychology, mainly focusing on mental illnesses and marriage counseling. But besides that, there’s developmental psychology, which I am not good at, primarily researching the characteristics of each stage of life, emphasizing the psychological development at each stage of childhood. I can responsibly tell you that everyone’s behavior when they grow up is related to their childhood experiences.”

That child was definitely affected, which is why Qian’s obsessive-compulsive disorder acted up when she saw that child and wanted to wash her hands.
