Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

The audacious woman, he didn’t want to make things too difficult for her. He didn’t want to pursue the past issues, he even wanted to forgive her for the secret birth control procedure she took. But damn it, how dare she not show up?

As evening neared, the golden light made the Hughes Clan’s artistically designed outer wall look more magnificent and grand. A petite figure rushed into the building, heading directly to the president’s elevator, frantically pressing the buttons, hoping it wasn’t too late, not too late...

”Miss, do you have an appointment?” A security guard stepped over and blocked her at the elevator.

Lately, women kept seeking the president, making them all tense and worried about any trouble.

”Let me up, he’s looking for me, he asked me to come.”

Avery Jane’s face turned as white as the fluorescent lights, her long lashes trembling, making her look exceptionally pitiful.

”Without an appointment, it’s impossible to let you up. Everyone claims to know him, which makes our job difficult. How about you give President Hughes a call first?” The job was really tough these days; everyone was a boss, and offending anyone wasn’t an option.

The young girl appeared so pitiful, her eyes were slightly red, but without the nod from upstairs, they couldn’t let anyone up. He didn’t want to lose this job he just got.

His phone number, Avery Jane’s tears finally fell. She couldn’t recall his number.

”Miss, there are lots of women clinging to our President Hughes; a few days ago, one woman made a disturbance insisting to go up. She even had a photo with President Hughes, but when she was let up, our head got fired. How would I dare let you up? Please don’t make it difficult for me.” The guard held the elevator door firmly, refusing to let her in.

”Senior, do you know Joshua Hughes’ phone number?” Avery urgently called Nora Thompson.

”Avery, what’s happened?” The voice on the other end was calm as water, but Avery could still discern her concern and anxiety.

”I don’t have time to explain now, could you immediately send me his number?”

Avery’s voice started choking up, unsure what humiliation Wenyard would face if she delayed any longer.

Nora sent Joshua Hughes’ number to her, Avery tremblingly dialed his number...

The phone on the table rang, but Joshua Hughes showed little interest. That was his external number, while the one he gave her was his private number. Only fewer than five people knew his private number, and she was one of them.

He lazily picked up the phone, saw the unfamiliar number, felt a pang in his heart; the number was from where she lived, was it her?

He answered the phone, and indeed, it was her.

The voice he hadn’t heard for over two months came timidly through the line, seeming choked up: ”I’m downstairs, can’t get up.”

Her voice was anxious, helpless, or perhaps something else. He was too late to savor all her emotions, only that clear voice with irresistible tension pierced his eardrums, directly hitting his heart, causing it to beat quickly...

The elevator digits jumped layer by layer. With a ”ding,” it reached the top floor. Avery Jane nervously exited the elevator. She hardly knew what awaited her, but knew she must come, even if it meant falling into the Inferno.

Pushing open the door, that cold stern man was sitting on the sofa, looking at her, his eyes black as ink, exuding a chilling temperature only devils possessed, thin lips almost forming a line, carrying a taste of indifference and cruelty.

”What did you do to Wenyard?” The words on the white paper stabbed into her heart like a knife, the gentle affectionate man not only her husband but also her friend, teacher, family, representing everything best she once had. Yet why couldn’t he find peace even in death?

She hoped he was just joking, hoped all of this wasn’t true...

Joshua looked at her small face, pale as porcelain, completely bloodless. His eyes met her terrified gaze, standing up and walking to her, his slender fingers pinching her sharp chin. His calmness strongly contrasted her fear and anxiety.

He slowly approached her, the intense masculine aura mixed with a faint musky scent assaulted her senses, his hot breath brushing past her ear: ”Finally willing to come back, hmm?”

Avery’s breathing quickened, unable to speak as if something blocked her words, his gaze too cold and sharp, almost making her unable to breathe.

”I told you, didn’t I? But you’re really not obedient. Can I consider you did it on purpose?”

Joshua’s thin lips curved into a cruel angle, looking at her scared appearance, long lashes fluttering like frightened butterflies, little mouth fading to a light hue, such a pitiful look almost made him want to hug her, to give her some warmth. But this woman should be taught a lesson, otherwise, she’d never understand his orders couldn’t be defied.

”Who taught you? Beckett? Or someone else?” He gently stroked her cold little face, trembling like a small animal in the winter cold wind.

The man’s tall figure nearly enveloped her, even threatened to swallow her whole. She truly didn’t want to come back, yet there was no retreat left.

Anxiety rose faintly in Avery’s heart. This man was already thirty years old, at his most mature and restrained age, she couldn’t see through what he intended, yet his actions always drove people mad enough to collapse and unable to accept.

”You care a lot about that dead man, how much do you care?”

His cold voice floated in the air, then solidified, like icicles piercing her eardrums and nailing into her heart.

Avery unconsciously shivered, Joshua’s voice extremely pleasant, always deep and magnetic, reminiscent of a deep ocean and vast calm sea surface, but now his words terrified Avery, chillingly terrifying.

”What, what exactly did you do to him?” She was very scared, instinctively licked her lips, Joshua’s gaze intensely tightened on her small face, such acute desire arose from his heart, leaping into his dark eyes: ”He’s fine.”

Avery cautiously observed him, contemplating that word ”fine,” yet Joshua always remained unfathomable. Even Nora mentioned this person couldn’t be understood, so she was even more clueless about his intentions.
