Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

Nora Thompson handed all the documents and a bank card over to Avery Jane after briefing her.

”Avery, this is your new identity. Remember, wherever you go, you can’t use your old ID or card. Don’t do anything that can leave traces. Joshua Hughes’s background is far beyond our imagination; he can reach into areas we can never touch.”

Nora’s concern was not unfounded. Avery looked at the items in her hand and couldn’t help but worry for Nora: ”Sis, will you be in trouble? Will doing this bring you any bad consequences? If so, I won’t leave.”

She didn’t want Nora to be implicated because of her. That would be too unfair.

”Don’t worry, Avery. Everything is not done by me personally, so even if Joshua finds something, it won’t matter. Do you know Sir Hamilton?” Nora smiled faintly, knowing that not giving leverage to others is the most basic method of self-protection.

Of course, Avery knew, that elderly gentleman who was passionate about charity and helping others.

His life was filled with legends, and he received respect from the world. He had helped countless people, built hospitals, aided the poor, helped school-less children, and even established special schools to shelter numerous troubled youths.

”Mr. Yates’s matter was sponsored by Sir Hamilton. He and I have a friendship that defies age. When I told him about your situation, he was deeply moved. He said only he could handle this matter to leave Joshua speechless. Mr. Yates’s medicine can help many people with neurological disorders; he found it very meaningful. Thanks to his reputation in society, the Hughes Family, no matter how wealthy and powerful, wouldn’t dare to touch him. So you can leave with peace of mind and live the life you want.”

Nora glanced at Beckett Wright, who was guarding the door, and finally gave a faint smile and whispered: ”Avery, he likes you.”

The man outside was as gentle as jade, never causing any pressure when interacting with him, making him suitable for Avery.

”I don’t want to hurt him.”

Avery felt that even though she was still in her best years, with enough youth to squander, only she knew that her heart had long been worn and aged by that man.

”Then leave all the fate to the heavens. We don’t need to worry.”

Nora looked at the girl on the hospital bed. She was like a resilient blade of grass, striving to grow.

”How do you know Mr. Hughes will be back tomorrow?”

Avery asked out of curiosity and concern.

”Of course, I know. Don’t think too much about it. Rest well; you can leave when the night nurse goes to rest. I need to leave now too.”

The hospital was crowded and gossip-ridden; she didn’t want too many people to see her here.

She had carefully avoided all surveillance when she arrived and even avoided having Tigeri bring her, just to prevent Joshua from tracing her.

Avery held Nora’s hand, unsure how to express her feelings: ”Sis, thank you.”

In this life, she always encountered people who treated her well.

For example, Wenyard Cooper, Nora Thompson, and Beckett Wright guarding the door.

When Beckett learned all her stories, he assured her firmly: ”Avery, I can take care of you for a lifetime. I don’t need you to promise me anything, I just want to see you live a little better. You deserve to be treated well.”

His words were so sincere, without a trace of doubt.

She was unfortunate, but at the same time, wasn’t she fortunate?

Nora closed the door to the hospital room, exchanged a glance and a smile with Beckett Wright, and then disappeared into the hospital staircase.

She knew Mr. Hughes would return tomorrow because she had messaged Alexander King to inquire about their situation abroad, and Alexander had clearly told her their whereabouts.

So, of course, she knew.

The night arrived right on schedule. Avery put on the simple attire Beckett brought her, wrapped herself in a scarf and hat, and with Beckett by her side, walked down the stairs.

The elevator had surveillance, and the inpatient department was on the eleventh floor, so they walked down slowly.

”Avery, let me carry you.”

Beckett noticed Avery’s breathing was a bit labored; her body wasn’t fully recovered, even struggling while going downstairs.

”No, let’s hurry.”

Avery always had that kind of feeling, as if the light was right in front of her, just a step away from the warmth it brings, yet she couldn’t reach it.
