Bride of Retribution: Aloof Billionaire's Dominant Game

The housekeeper answered cautiously, secretly observing the changes in Joshua Hughes’ expression.

He narrowed his eyes dangerously, a coldness settling in them, as the danger emanating from him slowly fermented in the air, filling the entire hall with large oppressive and icy bubbles, suffocating and stifling.

Without even drinking a sip of water, he stormed out like a tempest, heading straight for the hospital.

The hospital was as busy as ever, the air thick with the smell of disinfectant.

As the busiest attending physician was called into the dean’s office, she hurried along, wondering if something had happened, or if some prominent figure had come to stir even the rarely-seen dean.

Pushing open the office door, she saw the dean cautiously laughing in front of a man in a black suit sitting on the sofa.

From her professional perspective, the man’s bone structure was excellent, with perfect proportions.

”Just in time, Dr. Diaz is the best doctor we have here, and Miss Jane is under her care.”

The dean visibly relaxed upon seeing the doctor come in.

”What illness does she have?”

The man on the sofa showed fatigue in his eyes, yet not a hint of sharpness was diminished.

”Avery Jane? She had a fever near forty degrees, frostbite on her fingers, mild anemia, excessive fatigue, and slight tearing in her lower body with an accumulation of semen in her uterus. She had subcutaneous implants for contraception, and although the side effects are minimal, her constitution is sensitive, so I’ve already removed it. With proper care, she should recover.”

The doctor professionally detailed Avery Jane’s condition, as if merely discussing the pleasant weather.

She didn’t notice the man on the sofa’s anger already on the brink of eruption.

Especially upon hearing she had contraception implants, Joshua Hughes had only one thought: to capture that damn woman, tie her up until she gets pregnant, never letting her escape again. Did she really think she could outrun him?

He personally went to see the hospital room she had stayed in, faint disinfectant scent in the air. Her subtle fragrance had long been overwhelmed by that smell, or maybe it had already left altogether, no longer lingering?

He imagined her living here, with that gentle man carefully accompanying her.

At this thought, his face turned the deepest shade of livid with anxiety, intimidating a nurse just trying to enter.

”What time did she leave?”

Joshua’s voice was low, raspy, with not a trace of warmth. His eyes burned at the small hospital bed.

”I, I don’t know either. She went down the stairs, we have no idea.”

The nurse stammered, cowed by his terrifying aura.

”During the middle of the night, only one person was on duty. This floor is a special care unit, where deposits are doubled. Who would have thought she would abandon the deposit and run off.”

”What do you people do here?”

Joshua’s furious roar interrupted her explanation. A person staying admitted for so long, leaving without anyone noticing.

”How were we supposed to know she’d leave? Plus, wasn’t her boyfriend with her? Her legs belong to her, what could we do?”

Her boyfriend?

Is this how she was introducing Beckett Wright to others?

Joshua stood rooted, handsome face pale, devoid of color.

A stabbing pain in his heart—as if a bloody, gaping hole had been carved wide open.

”If I can’t find her, I’ll make this entire hospital disappear along with her.”

His voice came from his suppressed chest, hoarse and gloomy, laced with a terrifying threat, before striding out of the ward.

He didn’t take the elevator but used the stairs—few people opted for the stairs now.

So, the surveillance cameras captured nothing of her departure.

She had meticulously planned her escape.

Joshua descended step by step, imagining the scene in the dark, frigid night, holding each other close, leaving quietly without alerting anyone.

The thought brought nearly unbearable pain, sapping even the strength to descend.

Unwilling, he was unwilling.

Seated in the car, Joshua dialed her number, but the phone was already off, unanswered.

Clenching the phone, he threw it harshly into the corner of the car.

At that moment, Avery Jane had already long left the city.

Initially, she should have gone abroad, but Nora Thompson reconsidered and suggested that in a world full of blond and blue-eyed people, a beautiful single girl would easily draw attention.

If Joshua wanted to find her, clues would be readily available.

Thus, she went where everyone was of Eastern descent; it was all thanks to Nora Thompson.

A place she had never been to, but upon arriving there found beauty—not in sceneries but in people’s warmth.

With their uniquely-accented speech, soft and tender, Avery Jane felt instantly transported into an early Taiwanese idol drama everyone once loved.

She went to Washington State, a place rumored to offer another possibility for the Huaxia civilization, comfortably living there...

Meanwhile, the entire city was on the cusp of martial law due to Avery Jane’s disappearance.

Being unable to trace any overseas records for Avery Jane, Joshua clung to the hope she was hidden somewhere within the city.

He used police resources to search all hotels, inns, and even shelters for wandering youth, but all efforts were fruitless.

Avery Jane vanished like dew dissipating under sunlight, quietly evaporating into the crowd, leaving no trace...
