The Hero Given to the Demon Queen

The night was deep and absolute.

Elara lay rigid beside Lilith, wearing only the thin bra and panties the Queen had allowed. Lilith’s breathing was slow and even, one arm still loosely draped across her waist. The violet night-crystals cast just enough light to outline the edges of the great bed.

A soft, irregular sound reached her ears.

Tick… tick… scrape…

Someone was at the door.

Elara’s heart lurched. She turned her head carefully. Lilith did not stir. The sound came again—quiet, desperate pressure against the heavy seal. Then a choked, broken whispering from the other side:

“Why… why… why… why…”

Thalira.

The commander sat slumped against the door in the dark corridor, back pressed to the wood, silver hair half-torn from its braid. She was crying and laughing at the same time in tiny, strangled bursts, nails dragging across her own scalp hard enough to draw blood. Her grey eyes were wide and empty.

“I can’t… I can’t bear it anymore…”

She pushed against the seal again and again with everything she had, but the Queen’s magic held. Her goal was simple and suicidal: slip inside silently and end the hero before Lilith woke. She had already accepted the risk.

Elara, still in bed, reached out and tapped the wood once—lightly, deliberately.

The whispering stopped. A sharp intake of breath. Then hurried, retreating footsteps.

Elara waited.

Fifteen full minutes. Lilith’s breathing never changed. Slowly, carefully, Elara slid out from under the Queen’s arm and stood. The seal on the door was still intact. She pressed her palm to it and pushed with what little will she had left. Nothing. Her power remained locked.

Her eyes fell on the silver comb resting on the side table. Strands of Lilith’s long crimson hair were still caught in its teeth. Elara took it with trembling fingers, pulled several of the hairs free, and pressed them against the glowing edge of the seal.

The magic recognized its mistress.

The lock yielded with a soft, reluctant click.

Elara opened the door just wide enough to slip through and closed it behind her without a sound. The corridor stretched in both directions, black and silent. She chose the left path at random, bare feet silent on cold stone, searching for any hint of an exit.

Voices ahead. Two guards.

She pressed herself into a narrow alcove just as their footsteps rounded the corner. One of them paused.

“Did you hear something?”

“Probably from below. Leave it.”

They moved on. Elara exhaled shakily and continued. The only way that did not lead back toward the royal wing was downward. She took the first descending stair she found.

Two levels lower, a familiar silver braid caught the dim torchlight.

Thalira stood at the far end of the passage, still breathing hard from her earlier flight. Their eyes met.

A terrible, broken smile spread across the commander’s face.

“Thank you,” she whispered. “You came all the way to me.”

Elara turned and ran.

She took the next stair without thinking, then the next, plunging deeper into the citadel’s underbelly. Thalira’s footsteps pounded behind her for a time, then faded as the commander lost her in the branching dark. Elara did not stop. The air grew warmer, heavier, thick with the smell of unwashed bodies, old blood, and something sweeter and more rotten.

Sounds began to rise from below.

Pleading. Soft, broken moans. A woman’s voice repeating “please… my lady… please…” over and over.

Elara’s steps slowed. Every instinct screamed at her to turn back—but above her was Thalira, and beyond Thalira the sealed royal wing. She had no choice. She kept descending.

The tunnel opened into a vast, low-ceilinged chamber lined with iron cells.

Women.

Adult women, some still young, most visibly pregnant, sat or lay on filthy straw. Their bellies ranged from slight curves to heavily swollen. A separate block of cells held those furthest along, watched by bored demon overseers. Further down the row, the scenes grew worse.

Female demons—tall, horned, and openly aroused—pressed human women against the bars. They forced the prisoners’ mouths between their legs, grinding slowly, finishing with low, satisfied sounds. The seed they spilled was not seed in any mortal sense; it was thick, luminous, and carried their power. The women who received it were already beginning to show the first signs of forced pregnancy.

Elara clamped both hands over her mouth.

Some of the prisoners saw her.

“Please—” one whispered, voice cracked beyond recognition. “Save us… or kill us. Please. Don’t leave us like this.”

Others took up the plea, pressing against the bars, arms reaching.

“Help us—”

“Kill me—”

“Don’t go—”

“Be quiet,” Elara breathed, eyes wide with horror. “Please, be quiet—”

Too late. The noise drew the guards. Iron-shod boots rang on stone. Demonic overseers stormed the cell block, heavy rods rising and falling. The women who had called out were beaten back into silence with wet, meaty impacts and muffled screams.

Elara fled deeper.

The next level was worse.

Open spaces where births happened on the bare floor. Bodies that had not survived the process left where they had fallen. The air was so thick with suffering it felt like breathing through cloth. Elara staggered into the center of a wide junction and stood frozen, fists clenched so hard her nails cut her palms.

“I’ll kill all of you,” she whispered to the dark. “I’ll clean this world. Of everyone. Of myself if I have to.”

Her voice broke.

“I need power. I don’t care where it comes from. Good or evil—it doesn’t matter. Just power. Please.”

The air changed.

A cold, fine scent of ash drifted through the tunnels, growing heavier with every heartbeat. Grey dust began to fall from nowhere, settling on the stone, on the bars, on the skin of the living and the dead. The moment it touched those in the greatest pain, it thickened.

The pregnant women were the first to suffer its full attention.

The ash clung to them like living things. It worked its way under skin in fine, invisible threads. One by one the women began to convulse. Their outer layers of flesh blistered, then split, then peeled away in long, wet sheets while they remained fully conscious. Screams rose—high, endless, and raw. The ash did not kill quickly. It fed. It flayed. It burned without flame, turning exposed muscle dark and glistening while the victims thrashed and begged for an end that would not come.

Guards rushed in, rods raised, then froze as the ash turned on them as well.

It found the gaps in their armor first. Metal buckles blackened and crumbled. Plates fell away in corroded pieces. Then the skin beneath began to dissolve in the same slow, deliberate manner—peeling in strips from fingers, arms, faces. Eyes clouded, then sank inward as if something behind them was drinking the soft tissue. The guards screamed in voices that no longer sounded entirely mortal. They tried to flee upward, but the ash followed the trail of their agony, clinging, spreading, keeping them alive far past the point any body should have failed.

The screams climbed the levels like a living thing.

In the royal wing, Lilith’s eyes snapped open.

The bed beside her was empty.

She was on her feet in an instant, power flaring around her in visible crimson waves. The distant, rising chorus of agony reached even these high chambers. She strode into the corridor just as Nyx appeared from her own rooms, face pale, and Thalira came running from the opposite direction, silver hair wild.

“What is happening?” Lilith demanded.

Nyx caught her sister’s arm. “Don’t go down there. The sounds… they’re not normal.”

Thalira dropped to one knee, still breathing hard. “My Queen. Nyx is right. We do not torture the stock. We only use them for breeding. Whatever is happening below is something else.”

Lilith’s eyes burned pure red.

“Seal the lower levels. No one descends. Find the hero. I want her alive. Alive. Search every corridor, every tunnel, every shadow. Bring her to me breathing.”

She turned and drove her fist into the nearest wall. Stone cracked and fell in heavy chunks. The Queen’s voice rose into a raw, furious scream that echoed through the wing.

“I want her alive!”

Far below, past the sealed gates and the spreading ash and the endless screaming, Elara stumbled out of a narrow service tunnel and into the cold night air beyond the citadel’s outer walls.

She did not look back.

She did not yet know what she had left behind.
