Chapter 294: Chapter 294: Surrounded by Enemies

「The next day.」

Ye Xiu and Qin Qing woke up at four o’clock, and Ye Xiu formally taught Qin Qing the Cultivation Methods. After breakfast, he and An Dongye drove to the Heavenly Dragon Sect. Originally, Ye Xiu had wanted to go alone, but An Dongye insisted on coming, leaving Ye Xiu with no choice but to agree.

The Heavenly Dragon Sect was located on Green Leaf Island, a Lake Heart Island within Shui Tian Lake. The island was surrounded by water on all sides, with the Shui Tian Lake Bridge passing through it.

”Little Brother, my right eyelid won’t stop twitching,” An Dongye said uneasily after they drove onto the Shui Tian Lake Bridge. ”Are we heading into danger?”

As their car entered the Sha Shi Island section of the bridge, four cars suddenly pulled out from the island. This wasn’t unusual, but strangely, all four vehicles drove side-by-side, blocking the road directly in front of Ye Xiu’s car and making it impossible for him to overtake. Gradually, more and more cars joined them from Sha Shi Island. Two pulled up alongside Ye Xiu’s vehicle, boxing him in, while the rest formed a convoy behind them. They were surrounded.

”The old saying goes, ’a twitch in the left eye brings wealth, a twitch in the right brings disaster.’ I knew a twitching right eye meant trouble,” An Dongye said, his expression turning grave. He reached into the back seat, retrieved a case, and quickly assembled the parts inside into a sniper rifle. ”Little Brother, it’s a good thing I came along. If you had come alone, I’m afraid you wouldn’t be going home.”

As he spoke, he chambered a round. ”When we get to the next turnoff, I’ll take out the car on our right. You use that chance to swerve onto Sha Shi Island.”

”Don’t be reckless!” Ye Xiu said sternly. ”If the people in the cars behind us also have guns, our car will be turned into Swiss cheese.”

”It’s a risk we have to take! It’s better than being escorted to Green Leaf Island and walking right into an enemy trap,” An Dongye retorted, tucking two pistols into his waistband and raising the sniper rifle with a thuggish air.

”Are you really willing to run without even seeing who our enemy is?” Ye Xiu asked. ”Because I’m not.”

An Dongye stared at him. ”You really want to risk it just to see who they are?”

”Of course,” Ye Xiu nodded.

An Dongye gritted his teeth. ”Alright then, I’ll take this one risk with you. But you have to promise me that if we run into danger, I’ll cover our retreat while you run. After all, I’m the boss.”

”Sure,” Ye Xiu agreed readily.

An Dongye blinked.

You agreed that quickly? I’m a little caught off guard, Little Brother. By all rights, you should be telling me to run first while you cover our escape. Whoever heard of the boss holding the rear while the subordinate runs? That’s so disloyal, they used to drown people in cages for less!

Hemmed in by the other vehicles, Ye Xiu’s car drove off the Sha Shi Island section of the Shui Tian Lake Bridge. In the distance, about four or five hundred meters away, they saw a large truck parked sideways across the bridge, completely blocking the road.

”If they make their move at the truck, our only choice is to jump off the bridge into Shui Tian Lake and make a Water Escape,” An Dongye said gravely. ”Of course, if they’re only using Cold Weapons, we can fight our way through. We should only resort to a Water Escape if absolutely necessary. I can’t swim; I’d sink like a rock.”

”Remember, don’t you dare fire unless I tell you to,” Ye Xiu reminded him sternly.

”Okay,” An Dongye nodded.

Just then, the four cars leading the way stopped near the large truck, and Ye Xiu immediately slammed on his brakes. The cars flanking them and following behind also stopped at the same time. Doors flew open, and a horde of masked men in black suits poured out, each brandishing an AK.

”To hell with this! A hundred men with a hundred machine guns,” An Dongye said, his face grim. ”Looks like we have no choice but to jump. Little Brother, you have to pull me along in the water. I really can’t swim.”

”Alright.” Ye Xiu nodded, opened his door, and got out.

An Dongye scrambled out after him with his sniper rifle, his eyes nervously fixed on the hundred masked gunners. As a sniper, finding himself exposed to a hundred assault rifles made him feel like a disgrace to his profession.

”What’s the meaning of this?” Ye Xiu asked, his expression calm as he surveyed the armed men, showing no sign of tension.

The hundred masked figures didn’t answer. A hundred AKs all aimed directly at Ye Xiu.

”HEH HEH HEH... Divine Doctor Ye, your Medical Skills are not just unparalleled; your mental fortitude and courage are also far beyond those of an ordinary person.”

The strange, cackling voice came from the other side of the truck. A moment later, a middle-aged woman appeared from behind the large vehicle, pushing another woman in a wheelchair. Following them were thirty more masked men in black, all armed with Type-95 assault rifles, their barrels also trained on Ye Xiu and An Dongye.

”Xia Xue?” Ye Xiu recognized her instantly.

It was indeed Xia Xue—Shen Tianfang’s wife and Xia Zhiwei’s Barrier.

However, her true appearance was drastically different from her photograph. In the picture, Xia Xue was a supreme beauty, in no way inferior to Xia Zhiwei. But the woman before him was a disabled person. With her sullen expression and vicious eyes, she was clearly a psychologically twisted, extremely ruthless, and perverse woman.

”HEH HEH... so Divine Doctor Ye recognizes me. It seems you’ve already investigated the Heavenly Dragon Sect,” Xia Xue said, looking down with a venomous smile. Her eyes, like a viper’s, glared at Ye Xiu as she continued in a sharp voice, ”A pity, isn’t it? Everything you could find is merely what’s on the surface. Take me, for example. There’s quite a gap between the ’me’ in the files and the ’me’ in reality, isn’t there?”

”What kind of answer are you hoping to hear?” Ye Xiu asked. ”That you are the young mistress of the Heavenly Dragon Sect’s Xia Family? One of the famous Eight Absolutes? The beauty of Qingfeng Road, with a line of suitors as numerous as carp crossing a river, once basking in endless glory? Or that three years ago, you married the profligate Shen Tianfang, becoming the laughingstock of Qi Yun Dao, and have now been reduced to a bitter, crippled woman living in the shadows?”

Ye Xiu finished with a cold sneer. ”I’m afraid that’s the answer you least wanted to hear, am I right?”

Xia Xue’s chest heaved violently as she gasped for breath. Her expression twisted into a terrifying snarl, and the whites of her eyes filled with bloodshot veins. At that moment, she looked like a vengeful ghost in human form, chilling all who saw her.

”Ye... Xiu...” Xia Xue squeezed out each word through clenched teeth, her voice dripping with overwhelming hatred. ”Since you know those are the words I least want to hear, you still have the guts to say them. Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill you?”

”You can’t kill me with this trash,” Ye Xiu said with a shrug. ”If I wanted to escape, I could jump into Shui Tian Lake and use a Water Escape the instant they opened fire.”

Hearing this, An Dongye grew anxious. How could Little Brother reveal their final escape route to Xia Xue? Wasn’t that just tipping her off?

”Ye Xiu, do you really think I’m that foolish?” Xia Xue sneered sinisterly. ”Walk to the edge of the bridge and take a look below.”

Stunned, Ye Xiu and An Dongye hurried to the railing and peered down. Just below, hundreds of motorboats were emerging from under the Shui Tian Lake Bridge. Each was manned by two masked men in black, all armed with either AKs or Type-95 assault rifles.
