“Lu Yi Ye, you’d better put on a disguise. After all, many people on our side are aware of what you look like. You should disguise yourself as Niu Meng again.” Ying Wuji reminded him.

A perplexed Nian Yuexian asked, “Niu Meng?”

Lu Ye replied, “It’s another identity of mine.”

Upon hearing that, Nian Yuexian put on a smile. It was only normal for anyone to have a different identity when venturing into the outside world. Just like how she called herself Shui Xian, Lu Ye would also disguise himself as Niu Meng sometimes.

Lu Ye decided to heed his advice, so he kept the Inviolable Saber. Given his figure, he didn’t look like a Spell Cultivator while wearing the Red Dragon Warsuit. It was fine, though. Not all Spell Cultivators in Jiu Zhou wore loose clothing. Some of them liked to put on clothes similar to Red Dragon Warsuit.

Since there was nothing much they needed to prepare, Ying Wuji asked, “Where are we going?”

He had accepted the situation as it was. Since he couldn’t go against Lu Ye, he could only cooperate with him. Moreover, he was given three drops of Soul Cleansing Water, which was a massive reward.

“Desolate Plain.” Lu Ye told him where they were going.

Ying Wuji knitted his brows together. “It’s far away from here.”

Deep within, he was shocked by how audacious they were as they wanted to head to Desolate Plain. It was no wonder they wanted him to join them. It was apparent that they wanted to make use of his identity as a cultivator from Thousand Demon Ridge to clear the obstacles along the way for them.

In the meantime, he was relieved. Desolate Plain was expansive, but due to the terrible environment, no Sect from Thousand Demon Ridge had established their foundation there. As such, it seemed that Lu Ye wasn’t going to find fault with anyone. In that case, things would be easier.

“Let’s go, then. However, I have to make it clear that the two of you have to follow my instructions. Also, don’t do anything reckless. Otherwise, I’ll expose the two of you even if I’ll be killed.”

“Don’t worry. We’re the ones who should be cautious instead.”

After giving it some thought, Ying Wuji realised the man had a point. He then summoned his Flight-Type Artifact and landed on it.

Lu Ye also fished out his Spirit Boat, but before he could sit in it, Nian Yuexian had already done that. He was startled for a moment. Considering that it wasn’t appropriate for her to activate her Spiritual Power, Lu Ye decided to let her be a hitchhiker.

A moment later, the two Spirit Artifacts turned into rays of light and shot into the sky before heading towards Desolate Plain.

After they moved forward for hundreds of kilometres, they entered the Thousand Demon Ridge’s territory. Soon enough, they came across some patrollers.

“They’re the patrollers of Lone Cloud City. I’ll deal with them. Stay put,” Ying Wuji whispered and moved forward.

Lu Ye pulled up the Spirit Boat and rubbed his fingers. Seated in front of him, Nian Yuexian stared fixedly at Ying Wuji’s figure. As soon as something went wrong, she would launch a fatal attack.

Not far away from them, Ying Wuji briefly talked to the patrollers, who soon left the place.

“Let’s go,” Ying Wuji said.

Only then did Lu Ye drive his Spirit Boat forward as they continued their journey.

When they occasionally bumped into patrollers from nearby Passes, Ying Wuji would deal with them. The journey had been smooth sailing.

“The tour guide you’ve found is pretty reliable. What secrets do you have that you can use against him?” Nian Yuexian turned her head to look at Lu Ye.

Since she was seated while Lu Ye was standing, she tipped her head back to talk to him. Coupled with her meek voice, she sounded rather adorable and mischievous.

Nevertheless, Lu Ye felt as if someone had pressed a knife against his back as he whispered, “Madam…”

[What’s going on with this woman? She seems to have turned into a different person when she’s wearing a face mask.]

“Stop calling me Madam. During this trip, you’re Senior Brother Niu Meng while I’m Junior Sister Shui Xian.” Behind the face mask, Nian Yuexian glowered at the man.

Lu Ye couldn’t help but feel that the woman was charming. [Well, whatever you say…] He felt helpless deep within.

Ying Wuji had been cooperative. Firstly, it was thanks to the fact that he was given three drops of Soul Cleansing Water. Secondly, just like what he had said, Lu Ye had saved his life in the Peerless Continent on several occasions. He was a disciple of a major Sect, so he wasn’t an ungrateful person.

However, strictly speaking, it was mainly because he reckoned that Lu Ye wouldn’t do anything to harm Thousand Demon Ridge this time. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have been so cooperative.

As they moved further into Thousand Demon Ridge’s territory, the groups of patrollers they came across became few and far between. After all, they had entered the hinterland of Thousand Demon Ridge in Bing Zhou.

As darkness descended, they found a place that could shelter them from the wind and got some rest.

Ying Wuji set up a fire and cooked some meat. On the other hand, Lu Ye went to build some Alarm and Defensive Wards around them. When he returned, he saw Nian Yuexian enjoying her food.

Since she couldn’t take off her face mask, she had only lifted her face mask slightly when eating. Despite that, she could still eat quickly. It was a wonder what Ying Wuji had said to her, but she was seen chuckling.

When Lu Ye saw that upon his return, he was worried about Ying Wuji. If Ying Wuji said something inappropriate, Nian Yuexian could easily kill him.

“It’s for you, Senior Brother.” Nian Yuexian held out a piece of well-cooked meat for Lu Ye.

Although he had heard her call him Senior Brother many times and had been reminding himself to get used to her disguise, he still felt awkward when receiving the piece of meat.

“Senior Brother, many interesting things happened between the two of you. Why didn’t you tell me before?”

Ying Wuji said furiously, “Interesting? He has been oppressing me all the time!”

“Why don’t you go against him?” Nian Yuexian glanced at Ying Wuji with a tilted head, looking innocent.

Ying Wuji replied dejectedly, “I can’t defeat him.”

Nian Yuexian placed a hand on his shoulder and said sincerely, “You have to cultivate harder so that you’ll be able to defeat my Senior Brother sooner and vent out your grievances.”

Ying Wuji was moved, for he finally found someone who understood how difficult it had been for him. Moreover, the person was a female cultivator. [Damn it! Why does all the good stuff go to Lu Yi Ye? Why can’t I have such a considerate Junior Sister as well?]

The two men took turns to stand guard during the night, and they continued their journey the next day.

With the ten-point map in hand and Ying Wuji, a core disciple of Yama Temple, as the guide, the journey had been smooth sailing. When they occasionally bumped into disciples of Thousand Demon Ridge, Ying Wuji would deal with them.

That way, it was safer and more efficient than if Nian Yuexian and Lu Ye tried to sneak into the area.

Time went by quickly as three days had passed. A vast prairie came into their sight. It was Desolate Plain!

The entire Desolate Plain was expansive, but due to the lack of materials such as minerals and cultivation resources, no Sect had ever attempted to build their foundation here. The ten-point map showed that Desolate Plain occupied one-tenth of Thousand Demon Ridge’s territory in Bing Zhou, which went to show how vast it was.

As the wind rustled through the grass, they looked ahead with solemn expressions.

Ying Wuji said, “I suppose you won’t let me go if I say I want to leave right away.”

“Come with us!” Lu Ye didn’t want to waste time on him as he drove the Spirit Boat forward. Ying Wuji sighed and resigned himself to fate.

Although they had arrived at Desolate Plain, he knew Lu Ye wouldn’t let him go just like this. He had no idea what the two of them were up to, but if they let him leave now, there would be a risk of them getting exposed.

Moreover, they might still come across disciples from Thousand Demon Ridge along the way, so his help would be needed.

As they moved forward, Lu Ye soon discovered an anomaly beneath him. He asked with a frown, “Did an epic battle break out here before?”

Wherever he went, he could see the traces of an epic battle. Moreover, the traces showed that the battle took place a long time ago.

The traces covered a large area. If there was indeed a battle here before, it must be a large-scale one.

“You’ve never heard of the Battle of Desolate Plain that happened 38 years ago?” Ying Wuji looked curiously at Lu Ye, wondering why the latter had never heard of the incident before.

“No.” Lu Ye shook his head.

“How can you not know about it? You’re a disciple of the Crimson Blood Sect, after all.”

“What does it have anything to do with the fact that I’m a disciple of the Crimson Blood Sect?” Lu Ye frowned as he formed some speculation in mind.

“That’s because Desolate Plain was where your famous Eldest Senior Brother was killed. At that time, millions of cultivators from both sides lost their lives here…”

As Ying Wuji narrated the tale, Lu Ye listened in silence and took a look at Nian Yuexian, who was seated in front of him.

It was no wonder that Nian Yuexian had been silent ever since they arrived at Desolate Plain.

“You have to know that Bing Zhou had initially fallen into the Grand Sky Coalition’s control, but following the Battle of Desolate Plain, half of the territory fell into Thousand Demon Ridge’s hands. If not for the fact that those from the Grand Sky Coalition had built a defence line in time, the entire Bing Zhou would’ve fallen into our hands, and all of you would’ve been driven out.”

It was Lu Ye’s first time hearing the story. No one told him about it before. That was because only the Sect Master and Shui Yuan were above him in the Crimson Blood Sect, and Lu Ye didn’t stay in the Sect most of the time apart from when he cultivated his power. Even when he returned to the Sect occasionally, he usually wouldn’t see the Sect Master. On the other hand, Shui Yuan was only concerned about how he was doing and whether he had come across any danger. Naturally, no one would tell him a past event like this.

According to Shui Yuan, something was going on between Nian Yuexian and Feng Wujiang in the past. The woman seemed to be Feng Wujiang’s subordinate. In that case, she must have been present during the Battle of Desolate Plain. Since she had come back here, she must’ve recalled some memories from the past.

Lu Ye had never asked why she wanted to come to Desolate Plain, but it seemed to have something to do with that incident.

He wondered if Feng Wujiang had left behind any treasure in Desolate Plain. That shouldn’t have happened, though. If Feng Wujiang’s treasure were here, Nian Yuexian would’ve taken it away long ago instead of waiting until now.

Since she had to make use of Lu Ye’s power, it showed that she couldn’t achieve the goal on her own. There must be some risk associated with it.

Fortunately, they had entered Desolate Plain, so Nian Yuexian’s intention would soon be revealed.

Although she had been silent, she had been secretly activating her power to change directions for the Spirit Boat from time to time. It was apparent that she was looking for a place.

Four hours later, they suddenly saw a black line in the distance.

As they got closer, Lu Ye discovered that it wasn’t a black line. Instead, it was a bottomless chasm in the ground. It was like a gully that separated Desolate Plain into two.
