Nian Yuexian’s action made Cheng Xiu feel like a bow with its string fully stretched, but he was unable to shoot the arrow. It was understandable that he was uneasy.

Upon registering Lu Ye’s presence, he was relieved. He looked pleadingly at Lu Ye, hoping for the man to save him.

Seeing that, Lu Ye was torn between tears and laughter. He wondered how Cheng Xiu even offended Nian Yuexian, which prompted the woman to torture him.

He stepped forward and cupped his fists. “Madam, I’ve returned from patrolling the area. There are no anomalies in a radius of 100 kilometres around this place. Do you have other instructions for me?”

Nian Yuexian hummed and said, “Come and see me later. I have something to tell you.”

“Yes,” Lu Ye replied and lifted his gaze, but Nian Yuexian was nowhere in sight.

Meanwhile, Cheng Xiu was so drained that his legs started trembling. “Brother Lu… Please give me a hand.”

After he got some rest in the bamboo house, some colour was finally restored to his face. He looked at Lu Ye in amazement. One had to be mentally tough to work for someone like Nian Yuexian.

Although Cheng Xiu was bitter deep within, he didn’t have the guts to say anything bad about Nian Yuexian. A Divine Ocean Realm Master’s Divine Ego was powerful, so he wouldn’t dare be disrespectful.

As such, he cut to the chase and collected Explosive Fire Spirit Stones from Lu Ye.

After the items were counted, Lu Ye said, “Brother Cheng, please go back and tell your Sir that you’ll collect the items once a month. Once every seven days is too frequent. It’s too troublesome for you, and there will be times when I need to cultivate in seclusion.”

The suggestion was reasonable, so Cheng Xiu directly agreed to it. “I’ll go back and tell Sir about it, but it’s not up to me to make a decision.”

“Just pass on my word to him.”

Cheng Xiu soon left the place after the task was completed. Then, Lu Ye went to Nian Yuexian’s bamboo house. Before he could even speak, Nian Yuexian said, “Come in.”

Lu Ye directly entered the place and saw Nian Yuexian waiting for him.

“Do you have any task for me, Madam?” Lu Ye asked.

Ever since his arrival in Blue Flame Mountain Pass, Nian Yuexian had rarely looked for him apart from giving him some tasks for the first few days. As such, Lu Ye had no idea what she wanted him to do.

“I want to know what Glyph you used when you saved me previously.”

The matter had been bugging Nian Yuexian for a long time. Although she had first-hand experience of the Glyph’s effects, she had to find out more about it before taking action. The trip couldn’t be considered dangerous, but she needed a way to deal with any potential danger.

It wasn’t exactly a secret. Lu Ye might hide it from other people, but he would be honest with Nian Yuexian since she wanted to know. Anyway, he had used the Glyph on her before. He then told her all the secrets about Phoenix Wings.

As Nian Yuexian listened to him, she was startled because the Glyph could bring two people so close together. She went on listening to him in silence.

A moment later, Lu Ye asked, “Do you need my help with anything, Madam?”

Since Nian Yuexian asked about Phoenix Wings, it was apparent to Lu Ye that she needed his help. However, he wondered what matter was so thorny that the woman even needed to make use of Phoenix Wings.

The only thing he could lend Nian Yuexian was the immense vitality in his body. His power wasn’t comparable to hers at all.

“Let’s put that matter aside first. I need you to use that Glyph again.”

Since they were in danger at that time, Nian Yuexian couldn’t feel it intently. If she wanted to fully understand Phoenix Wings, she had to experience it again. Only then would she consider taking Lu Ye with her to do a particular thing.

“Sure.” Lu Ye nodded and unsheathed his saber before slitting his palm. As blood streamed out of the wound, he extended his hand towards the woman.

Nian Yuexian knew what to do. As she ran her fingers across her palm, blood streamed out of the wound as well. The next second, she placed her hand on Lu Ye’s palm.

As their hands clasped together, Lu Ye arched his brow. It had to be said that her hand felt so soft that it was as though it was boneless.

Since they were in a life-and-death situation previously, he was desperate to get them out of danger. As such, he didn’t feel her hand carefully. As their hands came into contact now, he felt as if he was holding a piece of warm jade.

When he detected her dangerous stare, he quickly pulled himself together and activated his Spiritual Power. The next second, the blood in the middle of their palms contorted and turned into two blood lights. Wings took shape on each side of the back of their hands. They were red and lifelike.

As soon as Phoenix Wings was successfully built, Lu Ye could feel the tremendous heritage in Nian Yuexian’s body. Similarly, Nian Yuexian could feel the amazing vitality in the man’s body as well.

“Can we let go of each other’s hands?” Nian Yuexian asked.

Lu Ye shook his head. “Only when we’re in close contact can we share the heritages of our bodies.”

That explanation was reasonable. Nian Yuexian then asked, “What’s with the vitality in your body?”

A Real Lake Realm Master wasn’t supposed to have such immense vitality. Even Divine Ocean Realm Masters might not have such ample heritage.

“It’s thanks to some opportunities,” Lu Ye replied perfunctorily, not intending to explain anything.

Nian Yuexian never probed him further. She asked, “Is there anything else I can make use of?”

After giving it some thought, Lu Ye replied, “Two Hearts Beating as One! Phoenix Wings allows two people to share the heritages of their bodies while Two Hearts Beating as One allows two people to share their Divine Souls. However, once it’s used, there won’t be any secrets between us. My Divine Soul is significantly weaker than yours, so you don’t need to make use of it.”

Nian Yuexian nodded and retracted her hand before saying calmly, “I’ll give you a mission.”

“Please go ahead, Madam.”

The woman then fished out her military token and infused her power into it.

Lu Ye quickly donned a serious expression. It was a formal way to give a task through the military tokens, and it was acknowledged by the Heavens. In other words, he could get battle points by completing the task.

Anxious and expectant, he looked into his military token. But when he saw the content, he was torn between tears and laughter. The task was simple as he only had to give the Pass Leader three drops of Soul Cleansing Water.

[What kind of task is this? If you wanted it, you could just tell me, and I would give it to you. You didn’t have to go through so much trouble.]

Lu Ye then fished out a bottle from his Storage Bag and passed it to Nian Yuexian. There were more than three drops of Soul Cleansing Water. There were probably around ten drops.

“It’s too much, and it’s beyond my power to give you a bigger reward.” Nian Yuexian frowned.

“Three drops of it are for the task, and the rest is my gift to you.”

Nian Yuexian sported an awkward expression. She wasn’t used to receiving gifts from Juniors. Anyway, since Lu Ye was sincere, she decided to accept it.

The next moment, Lu Ye felt his Battlefield Imprint vibrate. He took a look and realised he had gained a lot of battle points.

Including his reward for making the Explosive Fire Spirit Stones, he now had about 230,000 battle points.

He would receive his two monthly salaries several days later, so there would be another 60,000 battle points.

Lu Ye had no idea how other Real Lake Realm Masters earned their battle points, but ever since his arrival in Blue Flame Mountain Pass, it had been easy for him to get battle points. Moreover, he could earn a large number of battle points every time.

“You can take three days off. After that, you’ll come with me to a place.”

“Where are we going?”

Lu Ye didn’t expect to get a reply, but much to his surprise, Nian Yuexian had no intention of hiding it from him. “Desolate Plain.”

Lu Ye had no idea where Desolate Plain was. He quickly fished out his ten-point map, and upon confirming its location, he glanced at the woman. “It’s on the border between Bing Zhou and Wu Zhou.”

“Yes.” Nian Yuexian dipped her head.

A shocked Lu Ye asked, “Why are we going there?”

If they wanted to go there, they would have to enter the territory of Thousand Demon Ridge in Bing Zhou. There was no doubt the trip would be dangerous.

Certainly, they could make a detour, but that would waste them a lot of time. Considering Nian Yuexian’s temperament, she wouldn’t do that. She would most likely traverse the entire Bing Zhou.

“I have my reason for wanting to go there. It’s not a mission. Consider it a… request. You can choose not to go. I’m giving you three days off so that you can think about it. Run along. Tell me your decision in three days.”

“I’ll take my leave, then.” Lu Ye cupped his fists and left.

Finally, he understood why Nian Yuexian wanted to find out more about Phoenix Wings and get some Soul Cleansing Water from him. She was getting prepared for the trip three days later.

He had no idea what was hidden in Desolate Plain that even a Divine Ocean Realm Master like Nian Yuexian wanted to go there. There must be immense benefits to be gained.

Nian Yuexian had given him three days to consider it, but for him, there wasn’t such a need. Since the woman wanted to make use of his power, he naturally wouldn’t turn her down. He had never forgotten that when he was in danger in Lone Cloud City Pass back then, Nian Yuexian ignored her safety and saved his life.

He also saved Nian Yuexian later, so it could be considered that they were even. However, Human relationships were not business deals, and what they had done for each other couldn’t be used as bargaining chips.

Since Nian Yuexian wanted to go, he had to tag along no matter what. But before that, he had to get prepared. At the very least, he needed to have one more way to save his life. It seemed that he had to spend some of the battle points he had just received.

After leaving Nian Yuexian’s bamboo house, he headed straight to the Sanctum of Providence. Soon enough, he connected his soul to the Divine Opportunity Column and entered the Hall of Battle Points. He remembered where the item he wanted was, so he directly went to a particular stone platform.

A piece of Armour was on the stone platform, and it was a Spell Artifact.

Defensive Artifacts like Armours were popular among the Spell Cultivators. That was because they didn’t have robust physiques, unlike the other factions. With the protection of Armours, they stood a better chance of surviving in a perilous situation.

Combat Cultivators wouldn’t need Armours. To someone like Lu Ye who strove to improve his combat skills, an Armour was a burden.

That was because, to Combat Cultivators, too much protection was a hindrance to their improvement. Wearing Armours all the time would make Combat Cultivators overestimate their powers and weaken their vigilance. They might also become less sensitive when it comes to seizing chances.

Therefore, Lu Ye had never purchased any Armour ever since he started cultivating.
