Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2135: Chapter 2130: Confinement (4)

Is he really this easygoing?

Fu Qian was wearing a plainclothes outfit with a hint of alcohol smell.

He noted this when he was about to change clothes, feeling a moment of amazement at his partner’s suggestion.

Technically, it’s not just an image issue; it’s subtle, like not being able to wear uniforms for certain tasks, involving principles.

But since the senior has said so—

He quickly fastened his belt, grabbed his weapon, and went to the coat rack for a jacket, finishing his preparations.

At this moment, Tina, having discarded her hat, hesitated while looking at the dripping infusion tube.

Carrying such items out could indeed be persuasive, slightly proving the nature of her work here, dispelling misunderstandings.

But whether she should actually do it, she was still unsure.

Click—

Yet the door had already opened again, and Fu Qian clearly had no interest in empathizing with her feelings, ignoring everything, he walked out, like he mentioned earlier, letting her decide whether to stay or leave.

A bit chilly, but the weather was nice.

The eight o’clock sun was already somewhat warm. In the roadside parked black car, the driver was leaning halfway out the window, eyes closed, enjoying the comfort.

His partner Huck, indeed seemed somewhat aged...

You could tell that in his youth he likely had a good appearance; however, his face now was lined with dense wrinkles.

His hair was mostly gray, especially around the temples.

He had no trace of alcohol or sleeplessness, but his energy was evidently low.

Judging by his demeanor, if he had been any later, he would probably have drifted into sleep.

”Sorry I’m late.”

Fu Qian didn’t allow that to happen; he walked up, took a glance, and casually apologized.

”... No worries, are you driving?”

Huck was unsurprised, opened his eyes and looked over, confirming with Fu Qian without much expression.

”No problem.”

Fu Qian put on his jacket, responding naturally.

He was prepared when he came out; didn’t you see he was already standing on the driver’s side?

...

”You haven’t had breakfast yet either, right? I know a good spot.”

Naturally relinquishing the wheel, Huck moved to the passenger seat, looking more relaxed.

He paid no mind to the nurse’s cap he saw earlier, simply giving a sign to continue driving forward.

For a mission labeled as number 1, it was indeed a rare worldly scene.

”No.”

Fu Qian didn’t refuse such a life-like scene and drove rather steadily.

”But is it really okay to dress like this?”

Enjoying the fine morning light, he didn’t forget to confirm the potential issue with his attire.

The contrast was vivid; the old man’s demeanor might vary, but his police uniform was impeccably clean and properly worn.

”Originally there was an issue, but now it’s fine, because I suggested you do this... Thank you for accepting the suggestion.”

Though not closing his eyes to rest, Huck’s gaze forward was unfocused, his tone unchanging.

”You’re welcome.”

Fu Qian responded, keeping a straight gaze, accepting the gratitude sincerely.

The old man’s final words hinted at deeper intentions, clearly beyond simple attire freedom.

”Today’s plan was to take you around for familiarization, but an unexpected situation arose... I thought your way of acting might yield more results.”

With an oddly intriguing reply, Huck finally turned to inspect the newly appointed young man.

”What situation?”

Fu Qian had already evaluated his current appearance in the rear-view mirror.

Short hair, thick eyebrows, combined with tanned skin, though not his original look, still exuded masculinity.

Yet the lingering scent of alcohol gave an overly masculine edge, seeming more like a dangerous figure without a uniform.

”Finding a pair of missing young people, suspected to have come here, requiring assistance— drive inside.”

Huck Sr.’s gaze showed a trace of surprise at Fu Qian’s reaction, reflecting a puzzle mentioned in the task about understanding young people.

Of course, he didn’t play coy, simultaneously directing and casually explaining.

[Task update: Find the White Key before the Old Hunter]

Just as he finished speaking, another voice rang in Fu Qian’s mind.

...

So at the end of the task briefing, it says ”Happy Hunting”?

The efficient appearance of the mission target indeed brought comfort, yet some content seemed cryptic.

”Old Hunter”, ”before he does”?

Does this mean there’s another competitor? Is this some kind of speed race?

The atmosphere grew tense, even surpassing prior time-limited missions in intensity.

Because there’s only knowledge of the countdown, without knowing the duration.

Furthermore, the search target ”White Key” carried ambiguous significance, not distinctly a tangible object or metaphor.

But no matter, as Huck Sr. revealed the mission target during the briefing, it’s clear Fu Qian needs to diligently fulfill his role, focusing on those two young people.

Additionally, checking if the ”Old Hunter” is also interested in them.

”Currently, we only have a vague description of their looks... But identification should be easy, as they are too young, the boy reportedly only fourteen— just park there.”

As Huck continued the introduction, there was neither evident dissatisfaction with the added work nor eagerness for extra effort.

With an orange signboard and tall street-facing window, as Fu Qian drove onto a platform, it was clear the legendary breakfast spot had been reached.

Although the business seemed a bit ordinary.

...

”The usual?”

Huck was evidently a regular, greeted by a tall female manager at the counter.

”And you, young man?”

Having received an affirmative answer, her gaze turned to Fu Qian.

”Same is fine.”

Fu Qian had lately mingled in a middle-aged club, intrigued by seasoned dining options.

”Let’s find a seat by the window.”

Despite some surprise, the female manager didn’t comment further, and Huck wasn’t bothered by the mimicking.

”Zhen, why are you here? Isn’t Wednesday supposed to be Rachel’s shift?”

However, as the food arrived, the old man frowned at the young female server.

”Sorry, Rachel took the day off, you likely won’t see her today.”

Zhen, with braids, didn’t mind the ”dislike,” feigning a sigh, and even threw a flirtatious wink at Fu Qian after setting the dishes down.
