Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2120: Chapter 2115: To Steal or to Destroy

The facial features were exactly the same, but the demeanor and tone clearly distinguished them as two different people.

The giant in front might not possess much intelligence, but even when he roared and swung the stone tablet down on people, he exuded a strong aura of dominance.

The newly appeared thief was the complete opposite. His eyes were vibrant and full of life, yet his whole face, even hanging there like a chandelier, gave off a secretive, voyeuristic vibe.

In fact, that’s exactly what he had been doing up until now.

It was quite obvious that ever since the two of them arrived, he had been secretly hiding in the shadows of the dome, eavesdropping on academic secrets.

If calling it voyeuristic feels a bit subjective and unfair, there’s actually a more direct point to support that description — there’s a reason he could be a thief.

Unlike the robust body of the giant king, this one, although also complete with limbs, was truly slender like a reed in the truest sense.

Even the torso was of the same style, looking like a spider hanging from the ceiling at a glance.

Of course, despite the negative impression, the previous statement held a lot of information, demanding attention.

”Also searching for the sea,” the premise to say such a thing seemed to require a few conditions —

Firstly, knowing about the sea, secondly, also wanting to find it. Lastly, discovering two kindred spirits and being quite interested, with an intention to cooperate — although it didn’t mean he would selflessly share.

After saying that sentence, the thief began to watch silently, as if waiting to be consulted.

”In conclusion, as it currently stands, the judgment is like this: upon reaching a certain level of ranking, one’s will is naturally repelled by the Mental World.”

Unfortunately, Fu Qian merely glanced at him, then shifted his gaze back to continue the previous topic with the Witch, summarizing the content mentioned.

And the Witch was even more excessive, not even lifting an eyelid throughout, her gaze firmly fixed on her Knight, demonstrating an extreme disregard for others.

...

”However, that doesn’t necessarily mean it can’t have an impact. I’ve personally witnessed a Superior Being constructing a cage with the Mental World during an event known as Doomsday.”

Feeling thoroughly ignored, at that moment, the thief’s movement faltered slightly but he still chose to stay silent, listening on.

And Fu Qian remained unconcerned, continuing to talk about the scene of battling the Mother of the Gospel during the previously revisited Doomsday.

”Are you trying to say that this place might be a transformation of the Sea of Souls because it was influenced by a Superior Being during the previous Doomsday?”

The Witch was not just pretending to listen, quickly nodding slightly, understanding Fu Qian’s meaning.

”Yes, with those previous examples, it’s easy to fall into the mental habit of thinking this place is also a portal penetrating the barrier.”

For Fu Qian, some thoughts had been lingering in his mind for a while, and he expressed them freely at this moment.

”But if we assume that they aren’t the cause of the Doomsday but rather the result, it explains why my fire has a special effect a bit more smoothly.”

It wasn’t mere nonsense, Fu Qian naturally had absolute trust in the Witch’s previous statements.

But whether as a Transcendent or an academic leader, for Fu Qian, in a world where power intertwines, having some symbolic representation of the Mental World seemed very reasonable.

On the contrary, if there wasn’t, there should be some explanation.

Was it destroyed?

After all, having gone through a real Doomsday, it can be considered a reasonable development.

Or was it taken away?

Before his eyes was little more than remnants, like the previous existence of the Law Core?

Given previous experiences, this possibility could not be ruled out.

...

”I didn’t think as much before, but during the exploration of those dreams, my personal impression wasn’t pleasant. Now thinking back, it might be because of this.”

Though it was only Fu Qian’s one-sided argument, the Dark Night Pope appeared somewhat inclined to half-listen, half-believe.

The Witch, meanwhile, frowned slightly for a moment, trying to use this idea to explain her own experiences.

”With the collapse, it’s hard to imagine the Spirit World could remain unaffected, especially when the vast majority of life has died... By this reasoning, this place is even more worth exploring further. Let’s continue upwards.”

At this point, the pragmatic side was clearly shown, as the Witch evidently leaned more towards the Sea of Souls being destroyed under the Doomsday, instead of going to another world like the Law Core, which would make the situation more complicated as a conspiracy theory.

At the same time, she decisively ordered the Knight to continue paving the way, exploring deeper.

”Hey— you two.”

As for the Pontiff’s order, Fu Qian naturally executed it resolutely, stepping across the rolling red sand to the other side.

And the scene behind the exit was even more exaggerated, with the steepness of the slope drastically increasing, and the red sand at the end rushing down like a waterfall.

This waterfall was indeed moving.

Upon approaching, Fu Qian quickly noticed that on the surface of the red sand, under the cold wind, goosebumps-like protrusions were continuously rising, even facing towards them.

Indeed, all were those kinds of insects from before.

Densely packed, almost no gaps could be seen.

Yet, facing such a scene, as Fu Qian was still about to step forward without hesitation, a slender and long arm blocked the path.

The joints were extraordinarily large by contrast, even having far more than a normal human limb, while the surface was almost keratinized.

The blocker was, of course, the thief. While silently watching and evaluating, the next moment, Fu Qian actually paused, examining the face that had lowered a few meters again.

”Speak.”

...

Just because you tell me to speak, I’ll speak? How humiliating.

That moment carried no sound, yet it seemed like an aura of resentment could still be felt.

”You’re looking for the sea, aren’t you?”

But the previous encounter seemed to make the thief realize clearly there was no space to express personal feelings, ultimately keeping that sentiment inside, choosing to get straight to the point.

...

Yet alas, there was still no response. The Knight walking in front merely glanced coldly this way, having no intention of cooperating at all.

The only progress might be that another person finally glanced this way too, though clearly having no intention of speaking.

”...I don’t know how you got into this place, but you indeed found the right path. The sea is just beyond there.”

Recognizing that unless substantial information was provided, any meaningless prelude would completely fail to move the two ahead.

Furthermore, it was evident the two really had no manners at all, showing no intention of offering any goodwill to strangers.

In the next moment, the thief finally gave up on flowery preliminaries, pointing straight to the point.

And the direction he pointed in was precisely the pit filled with red sand and insects.

”Thanks for the guidance.”

To this, Fu Qian’s reaction was a smile not reaching his eyes, expressing gratitude, and in the next instant, staring at his hand.

”Then why are you blocking us?”
