Facing an Ancient God for a Year

Chapter 2113: Chapter 2108: Searching for Age 9

On the surface is a thirty-three-year-old woman, confined in a heavily guarded mental institution for murdering multiple people due to persecutory delusions, and neighboring a painter who killed and ate his critics.

Her actual psychological persona is that of a nine-year-old five-month-old, living in an orphanage in another world, with all this being a painful hallucination she is forced to endure.

Having once been prison mates, Fu Qian still remembers some information quite vividly.

Whether it was because the agent died by his hand or due to the collapse of laws, ”Rielertin” indeed faced a transformation.

It’s astonishing that Esther can walk so freely in the streets without fear of being caught and taken back to the mental institution.

One wonders how the resistance leaders, Lady Raven and Marianne, are greeting this era of change.

Although compared to them, Fu Qian believes the person at hand is indeed more valuable.

Esther’s character setting may sound a bit familiar at first, subtly stirring one’s urge to mock.

But for Fu Qian, the most significant feature of this person is the ”misalignment” personally certified by Lady Raven and the others.

Esther is the only one whose name and body do not match in both of the Leytins, thus receiving special attention.

In the midst of such intense change, will a character like this be more likely to influence the situation?

”An acquaintance? Just from the physique, she’s still a regular person for now.”

Observing along, the Witch also readily grasped the current situation.

”An acquaintance, when the law reappeared and Leytin returned, she was one of the Awakened in this Nightmare.

”However, she seems to be more special than others, with not only different identities but mismatched bodies on both sides.”

Fu Qian casually shared the character’s background.

”Two selves, one inside the dream and one out of it? It is indeed somewhat special. What do you think the cause might be?”

Esther was not walking fast at all; hence the Witch just stood beside Fu Qian, casually discussing her thoughts.

”It’s hard to say the cause. In a large population, there will always be some special cases. I don’t necessarily think any supernatural force must be at work.

”In my view, the special physique we see now does have some exploitable value.”

Fu Qian’s response showcased remarkable practicality.

”I agree, we could even consider checking her out on the other side once we go back — she seems to be looking for something.”

Even though he’s undoubtedly a Superior Being, he maintains such a pragmatic approach, which seems to make the Witch, a natural Divine Being, appreciate and agree with this idea even more.

”Moreover, she seems unaware of what she is searching for.”

Great minds think alike, Fu Qian noted, observing the bloodless face and adding.

...

Esther appeared utterly bewildered, much like a young person who had just returned from their first day at a new job to find out the company had shut down.

Yet, despite walking with almost non-convergent eyesight, she seemed to still be searching for something... so what exactly is she searching for?

”She must be trying to go inside.”

Rarely only posing questions, Fu Qian, after confirming the party’s confusion, had already casually offered an answer.

Not speaking at random, Esther’s slowing footsteps clearly indicated she had no intention of moving forward, constantly eyeing the side.

Although what she was looking at didn’t seem to be anything special.

At first glance, there seemed to be some momentum, like an ancient stone building, but upon closer inspection, it was just a quaint-looking tavern.

Coming to buy a drink in despair, or perhaps looking to switch jobs?

Both are reasonable, except the tavern isn’t even open.

Clang—

But this was not a concern for Esther; with a crisp sound, the tavern window was directly smashed open.

”She’s looking for a painting?”

Faced with such illegal behavior, the Witch pondered for a moment, turning to confirm with Fu Qian.

”Quite likely, it is indeed the location of an art gallery.”

Fu Qian nodded, gesturing slightly with his hand.

”It seems even some construction materials were reused there.”

Indeed, the spot where Esther chose to stop was the former site of an art gallery, which Fu Qian and the Witch had visited not long ago.

As a landmark building, though it no longer existed, the overly classic layout around it was still easily recognizable.

Hence why Fu Qian instantly noted its distance from the West District Church.

Although not a religious building, like the church-turned-lake, it faced the same fateful devastation in Rielertin.

Only among the businesses rebuilt in its original location can one find familiar stones.

For someone with a special physique to run to such a place alone in the middle of the night inevitably brings to mind another world, and the painting hung there.

Indeed, her unique physique; even though the world where nine-year-old Esther was, in theory, cut off after becoming a painting within a painting, she still showed such a special reaction.

”She’ll find nothing inside.”

The next moment, however, the Witch offered a rather disheartening conclusion.

Evidently, even from a distance, she could still sense what was inside, knowing it was merely a regular commercial building, with no preserved relics or paintings of special power.

”No worries, we can see if anything happens outside.”

Fu Qian’s response was optimistically patient, continuing to observe.

...

Esther is a special case, known to both Lady Raven and herself. Does the Fallen Star Clan know?

Thinking they had just happened upon an interesting target, this guess served as one of the reasons.

The Witch’s judgment is reliably sound. There was no need to go over to know Esther wouldn’t find anything.

But others might not be so sure.

With constant upheaval, whether the Fallen Stars, well aware of Lady Raven’s camp, would make a move on Esther, the special case?

Fu Qian saw the possibility.

Otherwise, it would be challenging for Esther to have this solitary chance to walk openly on the street.

So why not wait and see if this unique case might sway Rielertin’s situation—

”Here comes another, also an acquaintance.”

Continuing the image of an outsider, it wasn’t long before new developments arose.

Coming from the direction Esther had, a well-dressed, tall middle-aged man walked towards them with a steadier gait.

Without waiting for the Witch to inquire, Fu Qian had already introduced him.

”Esther’s former attending physician.”

Yes, the arriving person was not a security officer catching thieves but Principal Glenn, whom they had once met and who had strived to save Esther.
