Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5330: The Bet

Evelynn’s bosoms heaved.

Other than Isabella, Shirley, and Natalya, almost everyone in the harem had a problem with her, thinking that she had Davis within the palm of her hand, but she knew very well that he was playing all of them by hiding behind the title of the first wife, her.

How could she suppress Davis if he wanted to take more wives? She was already outnumbered when it came to votes, and whatever was left of her influence was something given by Davis himself.

She could only plead and try to earn his favor like everyone else while believing she would always be first for him, so how was it her fault?

”Good!” Zenova raised her brows, still appearing startled.

”What a good ’if he doesn’t want, how is it my fault?’ Do you even hear yourself? Any one of us in the harem knows he considers your opinion the most. He knows even one more woman in the harem will bring you discomfort, so he hurts himself by choosing to not act when a beautiful woman conveys her emotions to him. One look, and you can tell the number of women in this sanctuary trying to earn his favor secretly, even if they don’t want to admit it.”

Zenova’s expression churned as she waved her hand, her crimson sleeves flowing, ”I could never stomach him being limited, not even by himself! As my Emperor, he deserves the world! Everything belongs to him!”

”...!”

Evelynn gnashed her teeth.

She stared at Zenova. If gazes could chop- it could- but Evelynn had no such technique, so she could only hate Zenova for speaking the truth.

Evelynn also did feel everything in the world belonged to Davis, the love of her life.

However, unlike Zenova, she didn’t have the heart to share him more than necessary. She wanted him all to herself.

”Yes! I’m selfish and so are the other sisters, so what? We all want him to only look at us of those in the harem, and the bigger it gets, the harder it should be to enter!”

Evelynn harrumphed, looking away.

”Mhmph!” Zenova also gave an amused snort, ”Naturally, that’s why they’re concubines, unworthy of his time and only useful to be brought in when he needs them for pleasure. Regardless, since you’re going with him, do you dare accept a bet of mine?”

”...” Evelynn turned to look at her dubiously.

Zenova continued, ”If he doesn’t fall for someone in this adventure, then I will completely stop saying the word concubines in front of him and never even consider the system, even vote against it. I will even adhere to your words for most of the issues in the family. However, should he fall for someone, then you must never stop him and even present the woman he likes to him! Remember, you cannot dare to manipulate his emotions. Moreover, to alleviate his worries, since he would fear that you will be mad, you must constantly recommend someone to him in a casual tone as though you’re just teasing him. Then we’ll know if he’s restraining himself because of you or is naturally restraining himself because he’s not such a person. Do you dare accept this bet?”

”...”

Evelynn’s expression churned.

She so wanted to decline but found herself saying, ”I accept! I won’t stand for my Davis suffering silently either!~”

”Good! I’ll hold on to your words then!~”

Zenova said with a bright smile.

]

That smile now looked a bit unamused as Zenova leaned her head over to the table as she asked.

”So he didn’t sleep with Jillian Hayden yet?”

”No.” Evelynn shook her head.

”Then how are you claiming that I won this bet?”

”Davis’s disguise wasn’t only that of appearance but fate itself. In other words, he had clad himself in the person known as City Lord Kain. How could he touch another woman while he is wearing the robe of another?”

”...!”

Zenova’s pupils quivered. As expected. For the disguise to have even evaded Venerable Knight Lussandra, the disguise can only be frighteningly difficult to expose. To think he had even stolen someone’s fate.

”Husband said he likes Jillian, and she had also confessed that she likes him. A pity.” Evelynn sighed gently, ”The ensuing issues and the events didn’t allow them to come together. Still, he believes her enough to let her close to investigate and cure the mental afflictions of the children. I hope your child doesn’t be born with any mental afflictions considering the strangeness of the physique and the inheritance phenomenon. Please don’t make him be born as heartless as Eden is right now. Otherwise, I fear this family will be done for.”

”Of course. He will be fearsome.” Zenova said proudly.

”Are you really having a son?”

Zenova curled her lips, not really saying much. She always mentioned her child as a son, so everyone thought she was having a son, but she had never said if it was a son or daughter. Either way, they all knew only a son could make her this happy, so they knew her child was most likely a boy.

Evelynn only frowned a bit.

The others wouldn’t dare keep it from her, but Zenova was indeed daring.

She only smiled, glad at finding a true equal who could see eye to eye with her despite Davis’s unconditional support for her.

”So have you decided on what you require me to do since I lost the bet?”

Zenova hadn’t said what she wanted her to do for her. She was curious.

Zenova raised the teacup, swirling it a bit before sipping lightly. ”I think I’ll use this favor later when I need it the most. But in any case, since you lost, you shouldn’t act opposed to his wishes should he want a new wife. I cannot be the last, you understand? It is not only embarrassing, but also telling of my reputation. If there’s no thirty-fifth wife, people will say I have made him dislike women.”

”Pfft~”

Evelynn giggled, ”Wouldn’t it be seen as that you have made him reach a state of satisfaction instead?”

”...”

Zenova blinked. It could also be seen like that?

She supposed so, thinking it was a difference in how they were raised.

”Besides, you aren’t the current last wife. It’s Illumina, the thirty-fourth wife, while you are the thirty-third, the number of many legends indeed.” Evelynn added.

Zenova nodded lightly, ”Illumina isn’t the last in my mind, as she had been with him way before me. Moreover, her contributions far outstrip mine. I need to work hard. To that end, I need to hasten-”

”No, no, you’re already hastening using Jade’s abilities. Take it slow in the last trimester, lest it become dangerous.” Evelynn advised gently, appearing worried.

”...”

Zenova wanted to shake her head, but nodded, accepting her advise genuinely.

They talked into the evening as the sun set and then dispersed, returning to their devices, but the flesh-slapping sounds and the moans in the bedchamber of their Emperor still echoed resonantly even till the next day, its end still not in sight.
