Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5306: Burden Of Gratitude And Choice

Davis chuckled in response, ”It’s more like a sensation than communication.”

”Oh.”

Shirley nodded.

If more sisters like Evelynn and Myria started appearing, then she would definitely demand that Davis share a soul link with her as well.

”Alright, let’s not stand here.” Niera flicked her long sleeves, gracefully saying, ”Let’s go to the Grand Banquet Hall. Fortunately, Sister Zenova had prepared it a bit since there was also a chance that there might not be any battles. It will be a great place to hear darling’s achievements from his own mouth, isn’t that right, sisters?”

”Indeed.” Zenova nodded firmly.

She wanted to know more, as anyone would. Only Davis could tell them the full truth of the matters he had stirred, and how could they not let him brag?

”This...”

Davis looked a bit hesitant.

He was sure there was much work to be done due to the evacuation. The banquet could be started a few hours later, as he wanted to at least help out with the treasures. But even as he tried to reason, they grabbed his hands and pulled him all the way to the banquet hall.

It turns out that they had also not eaten much or slept well since the Desolate Era had receded, waiting for him to return from the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm for nearly two weeks.

Davis didn’t stand on ceremony anymore.

He let them pamper him to their heart’s content.

Everyone congratulated Illumina again with deep and amused smiles, showering her with well-wishing words. She had gotten pregnant on a dangerous journey, making them not know whether to feel scared or berate her, but Davis had even hinted that this was possible only because it was dangerous, confusing them.

A kink...?

Mingzhi nearly laughed out loud. She nearly turned Illumina into roasted meat from teasing her.

When the dishes from Jaisi Alstreim came, there was no need for stories. Everyone feasted like there was no tomorrow, their faces stuck to the dishes. He greeted her again and praised her for her efficiency, since it seemed like she was also included in the list of evacuees, yet she instantly returned to her restaurant and cooked up a great meal all by herself.

After the first few rounds, they were more than satisfied, so he began telling them his journey from the beginning while leaving most of the secrets out of it, including his Ghost Will Rebirth that had three distinct phenomena. He only bothered to say that he was undying and couldn’t be killed easily because of his soul physique, to put their hearts at ease.

Only Myria, Ellia, Evelynn, Mingzhi, and a few others skilled in soul arts and holding authority knew about it. He hadn’t even told Zenova, even though she looked like she wanted to know the specifics as she cast curious emotions at him.

He had to say that she was getting better at communicating with him with just her emotions alone.

Regardless, he introduced them Handsome Fatty Bjorn. He told them about Jillian Hayden, although she wasn’t here. He told him how he had successfully become the City Lord of the Eighth Bastion City and the ensuing drama, filling them with intense curiosity and amusement.

”You- you captured those villains!?” Isabella shot up.

”Yes,” Davis nodded, ”Harmon and Girias were brutally tortured and captured, and they will burn in our prison’s purgatory eternally. Tia, I must trouble you to conceal their karma to prevent others from using them to find us.”

”Easy peasy~” Tia displayed a thumbs-up, but her gaze was on Isabella.

Isabella’s expression churned, nearly breaking the tableware in her hand, but she sat back down with a cold smile. That smile eventually faded as she heaved a sigh.

”Let’s not talk about matters that will spoil the mood. I’ll pay them a visit another day. Then, what happened?” She asked with a suppressed smile.

Davis quickly continued, not wanting to spoil her mood. He quickly bragged about how he manipulated everyone there and made Venerable Knight Lussandra kill Saint Riyal Mendez.

The entire family was dumbfounded, their mouths forgetting to chew as they stared at him.

At that moment, Evelynn also confessed she made two families fight to the death, one happening to be the Hayden Family.

It further left them speechless.

Even the children heard it, their gaze turning different when they glanced at their first mother. It was now filled with more fear and respect. In their mind, she was usually silent and elegant, and had father within her purview, but now, they knew she was capable of excessive destruction.

”Wah~” Azariel and Viridia couldn’t help but clap their hands slowly, looking impressed.

They hadn’t expected this from their mother at all. She was practically the demure, good wife and mother who didn’t trouble anyone in their minds. This made them remember some past stories and now admitted where their own sly aggressiveness came from, leaving Evelynn embarrassed.

She was about to berate them and tell Azariel to work hard for the family’s sake, but Zenova nodded approvingly and even praised her.

It put Evelynn in a good mood as she smiled faintly in acknowledgment.

”...”

Davis really wanted to know how these two came to be on good terms. Although he could still feel their hate for each other, there was more rivalry and acknowledgment than hate.

Nonetheless, he initially didn’t mention Evelynn’s matter, but seeing her confess, he added a few words of justification for her and told the others this wouldn’t invite any trouble from Jillian Hayden since she also hated her family to the bones now.

When Davis got to the point where Fairy Qiyra Darkstar harassed the Celestial Transcendent by saving him again and again, Mingzhi nearly laughed out loud while the others suppressed their laughter, afraid that if they even as much as let out a giggle, the Celestial Transcendent would suddenly appear.

”Fortunately, Master had been with you two. We have to treat her well. Maybe giving her another resource required for her cultivation wouldn’t be overdoing it at all.” Mingzhi said.

The others couldn’t help but nod. Giving her another World Hegemon Grade resource would be well deserved, for they were filled with endless gratitude for bringing back Davis. They had the chance to talk to her when she came to meet Mingzhi.

Without Fairy Qiyra Darkstar, traveling long distances became impossible, and the eventual result would be demise or being sealed from running out of energy after being cornered.

She had saved Davis too many times now, becoming their family’s eternal benefactor, and it wouldn’t even be considered an exaggeration.

”True.” Davis nodded heavily, his mouth constantly moving with an aromatic spicy meat in his mouth that melted like ice when it met fire, ”A pity. She has left along with her fellow disciples, or I would give her the highest honors our family can possibly bestow. I can’t emphasize how much help she-”

”Uh?” Mingzhi looked confused, ”What do you mean she left? She’s sleeping in a palace near the site of evacuation. The other disciples are also resting while guarding her.”

”Hmm?” Davis blinked, his mouth stopped moving.

A moment later, he stood up and exclaimed, ”They’re still here?”

”Yeah~” Mingzhi said as though it was a matter of fact.

Davis wanted to ask why they didn’t invite them to the banquet, but then realized they were resting. Certainly, Fairy Qiyra Darkstar had suffered for the last week by carrying them all by herself and over-expending her physique’s limits. He had thought she would leave and rest, but he hadn’t imagined she would rest here.

The other disciples also hadn’t left, choosing to stay here until the last moment. But his last stand didn’t happen, so they were still resting.

”I invited them, but they refused, saying that they needed to rest and wouldn’t disturb the family reunion.” Mingzhi said offhandedly while munching on more dishes.

”...”

Davis sat back down slowly, his gaze turning complicated.

Why would they still stay here?

They had helped plenty already, so no one would fuss if they wanted to leave. Furthermore, he had already told them to leave. Did they really consider him as their life-and-death brother or their own fellow junior brother who studied under Saintess Lunaria?

There was no need to fight to the death alongside him.

It made him feel troubled.

’If they’re like this, I can’t even do a few things I wanted to do boldly... For example, I can’t pursue Saintess Lunaria like I wanted to...’

The debt he felt towards them was greater than the biggest mountain he had ever stepped on.

”I’ll go visit them after the banquet soon then.” Davis said lightly, making Mingzhi nod.

She absolutely wanted her master to stay so she could learn more, so she tried to convince Davis to make them stay.

Davis didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. He also wanted them to stay, but he was afraid that if he made them stay, then he might do something stupid with his Will acting up, greatly offending them. He merely said he would try before continuing to enjoy the banquet.

The more eventful stories Davis told, the more buzz it created.

When Davis told how he sliced up the Celestial Transcendent’s avatar for the first time, Yilla even passed a comment secretly that she would dance for him tonight when the children left, making Davis’ heart pound. He licked his lips, his heart growing more passionate over time.

He could feel it.

His wives couldn’t wait for midnight to descend and the children to leave.

But while Davis grew passionate, there was also worry.

He could not bring all thirty-one wives who were not pregnant to the bedroom, could he? He had to choose a select few, and that was going to offend many.

The burden of choice was immense.
