Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5308: Father And Son

Basked in the limelight and the love and respect of his family, Davis felt like he was the Revered One.

Other people may just feel proud and lively, but the sensations he felt were different. It was feeding, satisfying, corrupting, nurturing his Heart Intent. He was like a drunkard wanting more. The difference was really significant when he opened his heart up to revel in their emotions. They were like dazzling lights lighting up his world, filled with the aromatic flavor of exquisite dishes.

It was truly intoxicating.

After enjoying their praise and reverence, he took a short break.

The drinks had spilled, and the dishes in his vicinity got ruined. It was an absolute mess.

He went out to the courtyard garden and stretched, breathing in the pure heaven and earth energy mixing with the ever-present spatial heaven and earth energy. He could feel Stella’s roots slithering through the sanctuary to take hold of it once again. After all, she had uprooted herself, ready to evacuate with the others.

It wasn’t just her. Many things that were meant to be in place were removed or moved. There was too much work to be done.

Yet, they were all still in a high, celebrating his achievements.

He was sure that after this day or a few days later, Mingzhi would surely harp on him to go through all the documents he had failed to see for the past three months.

At this moment, a black-robed man appeared by his side, his figure flashing with remnant lightning sparks. This figure said nothing, just staying silent for some time as they looked into the distant peaks and lush forests before patting his shoulder.

”Is there anything you can’t do?”

Hearing his father’s question, Davis couldn’t help but want to laugh. He smiled as he said, ”Didn’t I just admit defeat to my first son, wanting his help?”

”Ridiculous.” Logan scoffed, ”If that’s called admitting defeat, then what am I supposed to feel when I have a son like you? Should I bury myself in the coffin because I can’t even have a chance to shine as a father?”

”Sorry about that.” Davis could tell Logan already knew about the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm’s opportunity, ”I can’t give that opportunity to you since you are falling in and out of being a Passive Divergent. Divergents aren’t allowed, and one should also have the hydra bloodline.”

”...” Logan turned to gaze at Davis.

Usually, he would be teased by his son right about now, but this time around, he appeared to be way more reserved, explaining it to him and even being a bit profound as his gaze seemed distant. He had patted his son’s back, but instead of being free, it felt even more firm.

The burden was indeed significant. He sighed inwardly as he asked, ”You plan to incorporate the hydra bloodline into Azariel?”

Davis nodded, and then changed the topic, ”How are Laura and Evan? You chose to evacuate with them, right?”

Logan scoffed, ”Your two mothers instantly started shedding fake tears, afraid that they’d be left behind. We got them out way before we decided to leave.”

”That’s good.”

Davis nodded, but his expression was rueful.

He still remembered when he coldly said he would save them last when disaster struck. At that time, he was angry, but when danger was about to strike, he really did panic a bit as he wondered if they would be left behind. Fortunately, this close-knit family of his that he molded with his own two hands was rarely ever too ruthless to their own.

”No need to put them in prison again if they have learned their lesson- or not. It doesn’t matter anymore, does it?”

”Indeed.” Logan nodded, his expression laden with guilt, ”It’s my fault for not looking after them well. Don’t worry. I’ll take care of the issue.”

”I’m not worried. You’ve been there for my children way more than I was for them. In that regard, you’ve become the best grandpa for them, way more than their maternal side.”

”Ha, that’s because they don’t get the opportunity to go out of the mansion.”

Davis and Logan chatted as they laughed and praised each other. If Claire saw this rare sight, she would be moved beyond compare, but there were only the two of them. Eventually, they started talking about the past, and Davis looked a bit curious.

”Father, what was it like for you to promise me to the Cauldon Family’s Young Mistress back then?”

”The marriage agreement was made to the Cauldon Family. It wasn’t specific to the Cauldon Family’s Young Mistress, but she was the most worthy individual at that time status wise since she was the daughter of the Family Head. That caused her to turn into your fiancée.”

Logan explained before looking amused, ”As for what I felt- what else other than pride? You’re a Crown Prince. If it weren’t for Claire, I needed you to marry tons of women to propagate the Loret Empire. After all, I couldn’t do it by myself back in the day when your mother was so fierce, and I loved her too deeply. Later, she even convinced me to not let you marry more than three, so tying you to Shirley was already nearing the limit.”

”True.” Davis laughed.

He was the one who forced his father to take responsibility for the children he had with other women.

Nonetheless, he wanted to know what it was like for his father to be using his sons and daughters politically, but he should’ve known that it was the correct or default way for them to navigate the world and cement their power. Unlike him, they didn’t dislike political marriages nor frown on it, after all.

Think of the devil, and he shall appear. Just as he was about to ask if he was doing the right thing by sending Azariel off to become the Realm Master at the cost of splitting the family and having half coming under the jurisdiction of the Celestial Transcendent, Azariel appeared.

”Father, grandfather.”

Azariel greeted the two of them after he stood behind them, causing Logan to turn around and nod genially.

Everyone knew he was fond of Azariel the most.

Logan left the scene, leaving Davis and Azariel alone.

Azariel looked clueless as to why Logan left before he turned to his father and bowed again.

”Father, my mothers are calling you back. The banquet hall is ready again and prepared to entertain you. This time, even the maids agreed to do graceful, flowing silk dances while playing zither.”

”Oh?”

Davis turned to look with a faint smile, but he cast a glance at his father, who patted his shoulder.

”Don’t think too much or doubt your decisions. This family rose from a small Sky Grade power. Whether it rises more or falls to nothingness, your old man can accept it all. I’ll be an Exalt soon, so feel free to depend on me, or even cast me away if need be.”

”I will.” Davis pursed his lips and nodded as he said.

”Brat, you have a face that says your mother won’t allow it.”

”Hahaha.”

Logan hit Davis’s upper back again with a firm palm, causing the latter to laugh.

Soon, Logan left, leaving only Azariel here.

Davis raised his hand and patted Azariel’s shoulder.

”My son, I’m sure you have many questions. I’ll let you in on the specifics later. Right now, Father needs to rest with your mothers.”

”Of course, Father. As much as I tease you, even I feel you deserve everything the universe has to offer for a short period of time.”

Azariel chuckled before his expression turned solemn. ”Father, whatever you have planned for me, I agree.”

A look of hatred crept into his eyes. ”I want that bastard dead. At the very least, I want to cut off one of his heads if he shows up again with his puny true body that’s suppressed.”

”Good! That’s the spirit.”

Davis firmly squeezed Azariel’s arm, and the latter didn’t even flinch at all.

He could tell that his son had completed the pain endurance training using his own methods, but for him to want to beat the Hell Hydra Monarch, that was already a very good sign of a fearless Will. Davis then loosened his grip and brought Azariel back to the banquet hall, whereupon a bevy of beautiful maids in luxurious flowing silk garments greeted him.
