Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5298: A Misdirection?

The Celestial Transcendent inwardly sighed.

He felt it was sad, since he had become a person of immense destiny when he received the Celestial Seed, a person of immense destiny who had crossed the final destiny and won without dying off once the destiny ended, so the effect still stayed. Nearly every woman he would come across, whether married or single, even if they knew he was off-limits and had rumors about his wife’s ruthlessness, would end up holding feelings and fantasies for him.

Even if not for the immense destiny, as a Supreme Ruler, who didn’t want him?

He simply smiled as he would have no way of responding to these emotions since he didn’t want to, and even if he did, it would just get them killed. It was best to pretend as if he had seen nothing.

To him, just his wife alone was enough in this lifetime after the suffering he had gone through in the past to survive together. They had grown together to the peak, so what more did he want?

All other women were merely temptations, and nothing to do with what would fulfill him.

He continued, ”I told you I had an old promise to fulfill, didn’t I? Many in the Greater Realm and Upper Realms know of my relationship with Fiend Myria’s dead father. I promised him to at least allow her to leave a legacy behind for her if the opportunity arises, and the Divine Emperor of Death was that opportunity. A child born between Divergents would not necessarily be a Divergent even if the chances are high due to inheriting the physiques. In fact, it is even more difficult for them to bear a Divergent physique since even fate would reject them from being born in the first place. It is evidently rare, so there’s very little harm in letting them leave behind children.”

”Besides, to his little sister who is going to endure a burden far more than one person can bear in the future, I owe him that much. I thought I had given them little time when making the Covenant, but evidently, it was too high, seeing that he’s now in the High-Level Empyrean Stage a little after two months after his Empyrean Tribulation.”

He shook his head with a faint smile, ”It’s my fault. I underestimated them when I thought I had overestimated them a bit too much. Have you seen any other Divergent grow rapidly while still being this strong?”

The two Grand Elders shook their heads.

Even the Heavenly Blight Hall’s Dark Apostles and the Saintess Lunaria’s disciples took millions of years to get where they are now. There was no need to say anything about the First Haven World Master, who spent most of her life living as a cripple and had her life extended with many immortal medicines, and had a monumental breakthrough in inventing a new cultivation method that nearly everyone at that time was after. That nearly bankrupted the Upper Realm until it finally revealed itself as a Divergent Cultivation Method, causing everyone to hunt her down.

It was a tragic yet famous outcome from the union of the Hyluan and Atlas Families. Even now, they were still getting shamed for it and made a laughingstock.

They could only wonder how Zest Hyluan was faring, considering he was also a target since everyone thinks he would have the Divergent Cultivation Method along with the missing father and mother of the First Haven World Master. Some accounts say they were imprisoned by their own families, and some accounts say that they had escaped to another galaxy to live silently and peacefully; some even say they were brutally executed to pay for the crimes of their daughter.

They didn’t know which to believe at all.

However, with Zest Hyluan never staying home and traveling, or fighting galaxy wars, knowing he could retaliate should they touch the Hyluan Family, no one ever made other than probing moves to find the Divergent Cultivation Method.

They didn’t need to necessarily cultivate it. As long as they could reference it and make a similar cultivation method with no divergence, then it would be a great achievement for humanity. But was that really the case?

They knew that, should the opportunity arise where they could potentially obtain it, modify it, and cultivate it, why would they hand it over to others? After all, with the modified cultivation method, it was said that they could become a Supreme Ruler of their own in another galaxy.

Which of them didn’t dream of being at the very apex of the human race like the Celestial Transcendent?

It was worth killing off an entire Upper Realm if they could just obtain the cultivation method, but it was nowhere to be seen.

Hence, they knew the opening of the First Haven World Master’s world was going to be very interesting. If it opened the First Layer, it would be pandemonium, but chances are that it would open in the Second Layer or Third Layer.

Regardless, it wasn’t their concern since they weren’t willing to discard their cultivations and had their own paths to follow.

”Haha...”

Zest Hyluan finally stood up, seemingly finished with restoring his energy.

”It’s like that brat has immense destiny on him when that isn’t supposed to be the case since he’s a Divergent. They have barely any destiny at all, and would have to carve their own. In that sense, he is indeed exceptional. Like an elder who swoops in to save the protagonist of a classic novel from an overbearing situation of the heavenly authorities, I think I might invest in him if he were a dark horse without any divergence. A pity...”

He raised his hand and performed hand signs, his tone becoming heavy, ”Let’s go.”

*Bzzz!~*

Their figures flickered, and they disappeared to the distant horizon, following the barely conspicuous trail left behind by the Astral Night Demoness.

After half a day, they finally stopped in front of a cold star.

Zest Hyluan narrowed his eyes, ”The trail ends here. Either she has descended to the floating continent in the distance, or the trail has completely disappeared.”

”Considering she is also carrying heavy weights at the layer limit, I presume she’s in no shape to travel continuously. They should merely have taken a moment’s rest like us, and then continued.”

”Makes sense.”

Zest Hyluan closed his eyes and began inspecting the stars nearby again as his figure flickered. He disappeared, investigating the nearby stars as he arrived near them with his teleportation technique and checked.

Eventually, among one of the three neighboring stars, he did find a trace that started anew instead of connecting to the previous one. They really did stop here to take rest.

However, he took the time to investigate it before finally returning to them.

”Found it.”

He carried them again with his teleportation technique, eventually finding a trace he could barely make out, but it led in two directions.

”No way she split herself at this point...” Zest Hyluan scoffed, his eyes sunken and his expression somber as though he was exhausted.

He didn’t think an avatar could replicate this kind of movement, or could it?

”She used her avatar she never showed? If it was an astral avatar, perhaps...” Grand Elder Yue Qing narrowed her eyes.

”Either way, only one carries them all. We just have to choose the right one. That’s easy. After playing hide and seek with him back in the Bastion Cities, I borrowed an arrow from the Heavenly Gambling Sect member whom I luckily chanced upon. It should point in the right direction as long as my luck is good.”

The Celestial Transcendent flicked his sleeves and sent an arrow flying randomly as he summoned a bow and unleashed it.

The arrow flew straight before flipping by itself and shooting towards a direction of a particular star.

”...”

The others were simply at a loss.

The Celestial Transcendent shrugged as he retrieved the arrow and pointed, ”We’ll go that way then.”

”Alright.”

Zest Hyluan begrudgingly replied. He had never imagined hauling this many experts would be so taxing. The load itself wasn’t even the problem. It was the speed he needed to maintain to follow this Divergent for an extended period of time. Although his bursts of teleportation were instantaneous, her travel speed through the astral sea was faster than his flickering all the way towards her.

Still, when the other party needed to rest, he could catch up to her without a problem.

Two days later, they eventually arrived at a floating continent, their gazes flickering.

It was a long chase, but they had finally found traces of them descending and not leaving since the other nearby astral stars were untouched.
