Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5301: Under The Dimly Lit Star

An astral light shot out, manifesting into Davis. Other astral lights also shot out one after another, but Fairy Qiyra Darkstar’s gaze was on Davis.

For a moment, Davis blinked.

His connection with Eldia, Nadia, Everlight, and Katherine was restored in an instant, causing him to be stupefied.

”Master!~”

Their three voices bellowed at him at the same time, causing him to be shaken.

He suppressed his urge to run to them and said, ”Don’t be excited yet. The chase might not be over, and we still might not be safe. Don’t tell the others, but tell Mingzhi and the others to be on high alert, and to jump away at a moment’s notice.”

”Yes!~”

Their surprised and excited voice turned solemn in an instant.

Davis gazed around, noticing everyone who had gone with him and joined later was here.

Evelynn, Epsila, Fairy Divinacia, Lereza, Illumina, Laphria Rinmei, Jaiyan, Fairy Glacia, and Fairy Qiyra. As for the others, Jillian Hayden, Zevonn Malark, Ophirya Kaelis, Tsaryn Shaddis, and her Shaddis Clan were also present in big numbers.

He gave the Shaddis Clan a firm look as his gaze and Heart Intent swept over them, making them shudder.

After a pause, he then gazed at the others before it fell on Ophirya Kaelis.

”How was the karmic gaze shielding? Successful?”

Ophirya Kaelis smiled lightly, ”Reporting to your eminence. Yes, it was successful. The karmic gaze shielding technique you unleashed along with mine managed to block all gazes.”

”I see...”

Davis’s gaze flickered.

He didn’t do much. She was simply praising him to the high heavens.

All he did was give her his bloodsoul essence and use it as a medium to follow her technique while being a substitute link.

Regardless, since it was successful, does this mean that the Supremes of the Elemental Dimension weren’t able to locate him when he exited into the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm and made his way here back then? He supposed that Fairy Qiyra Darkstar was simply fast and elusive because of the astral state for the Supremes to maintain their gazes on him.

It made sense considering they weren’t focused on him but his vague vicinity.

”Besides, I can sense it.” Ophirya Kaelis said smilingly, ”There’s already a strong karmic shielding formation present on this continent. Was it made by Fairy Tia?”

”Well, that belongs to the Divine Exalt who lived here before getting killed by one of my wives. As for Tia, she upgraded it and then put up an even more amazing karmic shielding formation in our sanctuary.”

Ophirya Kaelis’s expression changed.

”That’s... not appropriate, is it? Two karmic shielding formations will cancel out each other.”

”Yes, both use the same magical beast bloodsoul essence to function.”

”Oh, so they’re interconnected.” Ophirya Kaelis looked as though she understood, her mermaid ears fluttering, ”How intriguing... I would really like to take a look, but I’ll behave and settle down for now.”

She shot a forced smile and apologized to him and the others with her empty gaze.

After all, she wasn’t supposed to ask about all these things, as karmic formations were secrets belonging to the power and not outsiders.

”It isn’t as if we escaped.” Davis said firmly, ”I’m going to wait for a day. If the Celestial Transcendent catches up, I’ll stay and buy time. The rest of you should all escape.”

”Husband...! Reconsider it.”

Evelynn stepped forward, her expression instantly turning worried behind the veil. They had just returned, and he wanted to stay?

Davis didn’t turn to look at her. He kept his gaze straight into the distance.

”Evelynn, we’re not playing a game. Go. My words are final. Take Illumina and protect her well, along with the others.”

”Davis...” Evelynn urged, calling out his name.

”It’s my responsibility.” Davis finally turned to look at her as he gazed at her eyes that were threatening to cry. His heart softened, and he shook his head, ”You couldn’t possibly want Fairy Qiyra Darkstar and the others to continue protecting us after all they have done for us, right? They have their lives and need to leave before they can be found and cornered, even exterminated. Their foremost target is me and not you all, so leave. In due time, the non-Divergents will be able to become rulers in an Upper Realm, and I will return to your side, I promise. Do you honestly think those puny avatars of the Celestial Transcendent can defeat me?”

He raised one of his brows and shot her a confident smile.

”...”

Evelynn couldn’t say anything after that, her worry turning into speechlessness.

But indeed, Saintess Lunaria’s disciples had helped way too much. It wasn’t right of them to expect more aid from them. Fairy Qiyra Darkstar’s broken replica was on the verge of breaking from over-usage in the last three months.

If it really broke, they would have no face left. Besides, if it broke, her suppressed cultivation base would erupt and send her out of the void.

Despite being in a precarious position, she had been willing to help from the beginning just because their master sent them on a mission. It would be shameful of them to expect more, even if the disciples were willing.

Davis’s words for them to scatter if the enemies arrived now were right.

She had also gotten reprimanded for trying to utilize her darkness soul without any limiter, so the least she could do was not make him worry.

”Then I will hold you to that promise~” Evelynn said softly and left the words that appeared in her mind next unsaid.

She walked towards him and embraced him, causing Davis to also hold her firmly. He patted her upper back softly, and then sent them off.

His brave warrior Illumina had obediently left because she was pregnant, allowing him to secretly heave a sigh of relief.

With that, only Davis and Saintess Lunaria’s disciples were left.

The atmosphere turned silent.

Davis was also silent for a while. Seeing that no one was moving from this place or even saying words of farewell, he opened his mouth.

”There’s no need to stand on ceremony, and we did all we could. It’s time for you all to depart, for your Master is waiting. There’s no need to continue to suffer with me.”

”How can you say that, little brother?” Jaiyan raised his hand, ”Didn’t we share life and death experiences already? How can we let you battle them alone? In any case, it’s just five of them. There won’t be many in the initial wave. After everyone leaves safely, let’s defeat them and retreat together.”

”Sure enough, we can defeat them, but Fairy Qiyra Darkstar is already at her limits. If they catch up now, we really won’t be able to escape, and she’d be forced out of this layer if she used her broken ring yet again. Do you want to see that happen?”

Davis said enigmatically with his hands folded.

”...”

Jaiyan could only wryly smile.

This little brother had been chummy when they left for the Six-Headed Hydra Upper Realm, but now, after defeating the invincible Celestial Transcendent’s avatar a few times, his voice sure was authoritative. However, Davis was right. Fairy Qiyra Darkstar was already at her limit, even having wasted her one and only astral avatar, which was her trump card to escape from those who still managed to follow her, like that man who could use teleportation.

Before he could be reprimanded and told to scram and take care of his junior sister whom he had just made his wife, he lowered his hand and nodded.

Laphria Rinmei’s eyes turned moist.

She stopped herself from imagining Davis making his last stand here lest it become a reality.

”Good resolve.”

Fairy Glacia Frigidveil said warmly, ”Don’t die. Flee as fast as you can after holding them back.”

”I will.”

Davis nodded. His gaze then fell on Fairy Qiyra Darkstar, who coldly stared at him, yet he knew she was at a junction where she could barely stand. He found her emotions spasming as though she was in pain. He could only wonder how much she had overexerted herself.

She walked towards Davis slowly and gracefully before raising her hand, ”The World Hegemon Grade Treasures we had agreed upon, give it to me.”

”Oh, right...”

In his tense mood, Davis had forgotten all about it. He chuckled amusedly before exchanging it with them, warning them to not open the jade containers frequently or they would lose their spirituality, not that they needed the warning since they were more knowledgeable than him when it came to treasures of this grade.

After exchanging the treasures with them, they finally left after bidding him farewell.

After everyone left, Davis felt a bit lonely.

He sighed lightly and looked for a mound or a rock to find a place to sit in this desert of the central lands. Going near a rock, he jumped and made himself comfortable on it, enduring the unbearable heat from the Solar Reverence while waiting for the Celestial Transcendent to arrive.

If they were still following him after many misdirections, he felt like he should personally deliver them some praise.

It wasn’t easy to track Divergents who were karmically shrouded by their own divergence.

He lay back on the rock, watching the bright skies turn dark, and the stars glow beautifully. The rock turned cold. Occasionally, Nadia and the others would send him transmissions through the pact, but he refused to respond after telling them to be silent a few times. He was afraid that if he talked too much, they would convince him to leave with them or come over here by themselves.

As the Emperor of the Davis Family, they should heed his words, which had the final say.

He kept waiting and waiting, and suddenly saw the star they descended from flicker with a strange light. He sat up, his gaze squinting.
