Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5135: Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder

For a moment, both of them paused.

“Wait, that’s not right… You’re Master Deathseeker’s ancestor?”

“You are… Deathseeker’s disciple, the Divine Emperor of Death?”

Before the other party could say his title, Davis already raised a sound barrier. However, when he turned to look at Jillian Hayden, he saw that she had fainted again. When his senses scoured over her, he found that she was plagued by a tiny amount of death energy momentarily, although her natural defenses were working to eliminate it.

He didn’t wrap his energy around her when the Death Domain first appeared, so she got hit by it. He felt she would awaken after a long time, after her body cleared traces of it.

Still, Davis summoned a ball of life energy over his fingertips and then threw it at her to aid her recuperation.

“…”

This directly confirmed who he was to the black-robed person, making the latter sigh.

“To think you would disguise yourself as the City Lord. I don’t know if I’m unlucky or fortunate to meet you in this manner…” He said with a dry voice.

Davis was shocked that this black-robed person could recognize him past his karmic impersonation. After all, the karmic impersonation even interferes with logic on top of perception. Even if people wanted to guess that it was him, they wouldn’t be able to because of the dissonance in their perception.

He felt the reason why this person was able to guess it was him was because of Will. This confirmed his theories that a stronger and solidified Will has better chances to be able to see through his karmic impersonation disguise.

Still, he asked again, “You are?”

“I’m the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder.”

“What?” Davis nearly jumped, “Founder? You look exactly like Master Deathseeker as though you’re a twin.”

“That would be correct.” The black-robed man nodded weakly, “My soul physique, Insidious Deathly Vortex Eyes, does not allow me to live past nine hundred years. Hence, I enter the reincarnation cycle and reappear as the same person each time without any memories.”

“…?” Davis raised his brows at this strange revelation.

“After my death each time and coming to know what was happening to me belatedly, I chose to turn into a ghost each time and wander to setup things for my next incarnation, but accidentally obtained this treasure, which allowed me to survive as a ghost and come this far.”

Davis felt like his vision was reeling back. He pursed his lips, asking, “Why are you readily telling me all this?”

“Because you robbed the treasure from me.” The black-robed man chuckled weakly.

“Yes…” Davis said with a straight face, “I’m sorry, but I can’t give it back to you since I badly need it, but I can make amends.”

“I know… that treasure does belong to you, considering it betrayed me instantly.”

The black-robed man laughed again before he shook his head, “However, there’s no use. I needed a Truesoul to cultivate past the Empyrean Stage, and since I cultivate the Divine Exalt Path, my Truesoul is embedded in my Godskull. Since my Truesoul was generated and upheld by this treasure and since the connection is broken, my Truesoul is also harmed greatly. Without the Truesoul, the Godskull is going to rupture. In other words, since the Truesoul would disappear, I would inevitably die.”

‘Whaaat-?’

Davis could only blink.

Did he just kill the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder just like that?

He had always warned his children to see who their opponent was before they attacked since there’s an off-chance that they could be allies, but he made the same mistake today.

But all he did was steal some stuff. Who knew it would lead to death?

Seeing Davis go silent, the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder waved his hand as she slumped on the edge of the bed, his corporeal body increasingly turning spectral as though he was going to disappear any moment.

“Forget it. The reason why I chose to become a ghost every time is to support the next incarnation, pave the path, so I can truly live, but after obtaining this treasure, I got greedy and wanted to live for myself. This meant it would inevitably lead to a fight between me and my next incarnations, who made it up to my level. In this case, it was Deathseeker. I have heard of him from the elders. I was waiting to meet him when he came to the Upper Realms. However, who would’ve expected his disciple to kill me instantly? No wonder you’re the Divine Emperor of Death, the first Desolate Divergent. Wouldn’t even let me have a bout with my talented incarnation.”

Davis’s lips twitched, “Founder, are you praising me or cursing me? I benefited from your techniques. You can’t die like this. The Ghost Tear Hall’s people would all curse me to death.”

The Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder narrowed his brows. He turned to look at Davis, his pitch-black gaze appearing solemn.

“The Ghost Tear Hall always had one single heir, and that’s my Soul Quintessence. It was either me or your master, so choose wisely.”

“…”

Davis went silent.

During the Soul Severance Phenomenon during the Empyrean Tribulation, one can consolidate their Soul Quintessence but not create anew.

To establish a new Soul Quintessence couldn’t even be described as difficult but as nearly impossible. Only Myria and he were capable of it due to possessing the reincarnation attribute or perhaps the manifestation of the reincarnation wheel. Of course, there should be other heavenly methods like what the World Master was capable of when she had Saintess Lunaria, but he had no idea what they were.

After a brief pause, Davis opened his mouth, “I can’t make this decision in my master’s stead. I would love to end you just so I wouldn’t have any problems ten seconds later, but I still consider you my benefactor for creating those amazing techniques which accompanied me in my life, especially the Hateless Ghost Emperor Steps. How about this? You hand over all your life’s work, and I’ll save you. Then you can fight it out with my master because I know he’s going to win.”

“…” The Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder felt that he didn’t hear it right.

Besides, saving him? Was that even possible?

“How do you suppose you would save me?” He asked in an indifferent tone.

“Isn’t it just consolidating the Truesoul?” Davis said as though it was obvious before bringing out a jade slip, “I have one of my wife’s creations over here, the Inspirited Truesoul Reanimation Technique, which will help you re-consolidate your Truesoul, essentially healing it.”

He threw it to the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder as though he wasn’t afraid that he would suddenly run away with it.

The latter caught it with his hand and went through it, his brows furrowing.

Quickly, his expression began trembling before refocused his gaze on it more. In the end, he sighed.

“What a marvelous technique. I wouldn’t have even needed the treasure to get past the Empyrean Stage if I had this technique. The person who invented this must be a true genius. A pity… my Truesoul is already embedded with my Godskull. This technique won’t save me.”

He shook his head in lament, but Davis chuckled.

“Don’t I have this now?”

Davis raised his hand as he flexed the white stone. Life energy soared out of it like a thick mist, encompassing the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder.

“…!?” It shocked the Ghost Tear Hall’s Founder since he was unable to use life energy with it.

He had only been able to use death energy. But this death energy had always been so strange that it seemed like an inverse of life energy rather than death energy itself, allowing him to awaken and control ghosts and corpses. He felt this energy had the property of ghostly yang instead of ghostly yin. Now it all made sense.

This white stone had always been capable of generating life energy, but he had been unworthy!

However, he shuddered as he sensed his Truesoul regenerating ever so lightly under this life energy, inexplicably giving him a spark of hope.
