Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5112 Miredon Familyʼs Predicament?

Evelynn slowly descended from the gate.

”The mansion originally belonged to your Hayden Family. Since I agreed to return it, naturally I would not allow outsiders to seize it.”

Evelynn didnʼt give her name, making the other partyʼs brow twitch, but he still smiled.

”Our Patriarch would definitely wish to personally thank Young Mistress. Please allow us to escort you to the Hayden Family headquarters right now if itʼs alright with you. The Miredon Family might also attack you at any time, so it is better if we get acquainted as soon as possible so we can help you if any problem arises due to this incident.”

Evelynn paused briefly, thinking that the enemy faction was called the Miredon Family. She found no information on them in her memories, so she didnʼt bother before nodding.

”Very well. Let me make some arrangements first.”

”Great.”

After some time, a luxurious palanquin was brought over.

It was crafted from dark violet Exalt Grade wood with faint hydra engravings winding across its surface. Curtains of black translucent silk swayed gently around it while several magical beasts that looked like a mix between horses and lizards pulled it from the front.

The Hayden Family cultivators respectfully invited Evelynn inside.

She entered the palanquin calmly along with a woman dressed in a fine maidʼs black robe while the procession began moving through the streets.

The surrounding onlookers quickly stepped aside, their gazes filled with curiosity and caution.

Inside the palanquin, Evelynn lightly leaned against the soft interior cushions as she looked out the window. Her expression beneath the veil became somewhat strange.

After trying so hard to avoid the Hayden Family, she somehow found herself personally escorted to their headquarters. Did they really want to be destroyed by her?

However, what was strange wasnʼt this.

She turned to look to the side and saw a black-robed maid with an ordinary face, so ordinary that one might want to look away just so that they arenʼt attended by her instead.

This was Fairy Qiyra Darkstar, right? Was this Twilight Laws, making her appearance from illusory to real, that she couldnʼt find any hint of Fairy Qiyra Darkstar from her? It was truly strange.

Nonetheless, she ignored Davisʼs warnings, leaving him sighing.

Hopefully, he knew Venerable Knight Lussandra wasnʼt there because she was here, flying outside right around his City Lord Manor, trying to find evidence of crimes on him just like she said she would. But from his findings, it was most likely an avatar or a soul body instead of her main body, which was trying to find traces of the Divine Emperor of Death.

”Responsible to a fault… so annoying…”

Davis said with a scoff.

He wanted to go annoy someone to get rid of his frustrations, so he walked outside of his master room and beckoned for the Steward to come over.

*Pow!~*

He slapped him, sending him flying before making his way back inside.

Steward Belmont hit the wall and crashed down before he sat up and looked at the door with a dumbfounded expression.

What did he do to deserve this slap?

Of course, he did many things, but he was still confident of hiding them all from City Lord Kain. In that case, he understood that the City Lord was furious that he had mishandled the incident yesterday, making him feel even more worser as it was no different than taking an arrow to the knee from his own bow.

He felt so betrayed.

How could it happen? His Heart Intent firmly told him that the first wife had fallen out of love with the City Lord and became smitten with him, even started loving after a long time of secretly courting her with concealed gazes and rare meetings.

But now, she had instantly betrayed him because she had found a better man- no, the best man a woman could get in the world!

A Saint!

Even if he was the City Lord himself, he couldnʼt compete with such a figure, so it made him quite helpless.

He didnʼt even dare to confront his lover, lest his affair be discovered by the City Lord.

Hence, he obediently stood up and stood before the doors, continuing to do his task as a steward. At this moment, he hoped Dragon could help, unaware that he might get slapped again if he were to go ask.

=========

The defeated cultivators of the Miredon Family fled through the streets with ugly expressions.

Some clutched bleeding wounds while others supported heavily injured Autarchs whose arms and torsos had been mangled by the distorted spatial attacks. Their robes were torn, their faces pale, and their hearts filled with humiliation.

They had gone to seize a mansion from a weak foreign family. Instead, they returned after being beaten back by the Hayden Family and a mysterious masked woman.

Inside one of the city districts, the Miredon Family estate stood beneath dark waters flowing through elevated canals. Numerous aquatic magical beasts swam beneath the transparent waterways surrounding the family grounds while guards hurriedly opened the gates after seeing the injured cultivators return.

”Theyʼre back!”

”What happened!?”

”Quickly summon the physicians!”

The estate descended into disorder.

Soon, physicians and alchemists rushed over to treat the wounded. Pills were fed into mouths while healing formations activated across several chambers.

The heavily injured Autarchs gritted their teeth as darkness-spatial injuries were slowly removed from their bodies.

One old physician frowned while inspecting a wound.

”This spatial distortion energy is troublesome. Whoever controlled that formation possessed frightening precision.”

”The Hayden Family shouldnʼt have such a capable formation master…”

Another Autarch slammed his fist against the table.

”It was that masked woman!”

”She manipulated the formation alone and turned the street into a maze!”

The othersʼ expressions darkened.

Soon, the matter was reported upward.

The elders learned of the failed operation and quickly gathered inside the family hall.

”What?”

”The Hayden Family reclaimed the mansion?”

”And there was a mysterious woman involved?”

The reporting Primarch cupped his fists, his expression unsightly.

”She appeared to be only a Level Three Empyrean, but she could manipulate the High-Level Primarch Grade darkness-spatial formation flawlessly. Because of her interference, we suffered considerable injuries.”

An elder narrowed his eyes.

”A hidden expert?”

”No.” The Primarch shook his head. ”Her cultivation was genuinely low, but her status seemed high since she possessed the documents of the mansion. However… there was something strange about her undulations. It suddenly spiked at one moment, and I felt another aura from her, but I couldnʼt tell what it was due to the effects of the darkness-spatial defensive formation she employed.”

The elders exchanged glances.

Finally, they brought the matter before the Miredon Family Patriarch.

The middle-aged man sat atop a dark throne while streams of water flowed quietly beneath the hall.

After hearing the report, his expression sank slightly.

”The Hayden Family…”

His fingers tapped against the armrest, ”Damn them. I just received a report stating that they have somehow won the favor of the Saint.”

”What!?”

The Elders were stunned.

That lowly Hayden Family finally managed to get a backer? No wonder they dared to roam around and even battle them.

”Continue investigating the masked womanʼs background and her identity. As for the matter of that property, weʼll reclaim it another day. Heh, since they will more or less enter the alliance belonging to the Saint in a few days with this unknown move of theirs, they should drink up the cup of defeat and listen to their seniors.” The Patriarch sneered.

After the Hayden Family entered the alliance, all they would have to do was force them to hand over the property. Then they could establish their superiority.

”Yes, Patriarch.”

After being dismissed, the injured cultivators and the elders gradually returned to their residences to recover and spend time with their families.

Some sat with their wives or mistresses while consuming healing medicine.

Others allowed their family kinsmen or even children to help clean their wounds while boasting angrily about the battle.

A few entered secluded cultivation chambers to circulate their energy and expel the lingering darkness-spatial remnant energy from their bodies. There was also poison that they incurred from the Hayden Family.

None of them noticed anything unusual.

However, deep within their souls, an invisible, black hex quietly spread like a drop of ink diffusing through clear water. It quietly seeped into their bodies, waiting for something.

It carried no obvious malice, no immediate pain or detectable poison.

It merely spread like a vine creeping around, extending at a rapid rate.

The few Level Nine Autarchs who had directly fallen under Evelynnʼs third-eye ability became the origin points.

Within minutes, the hex silently propagated through bloodlines, soul resonance and prolonged proximity.

Spouses unknowingly became infected, children inherited traces of it, servants, guards, and branch family members all became linked through contact.

Within hours, the Miredon Family estate unknowingly became covered by an invisible curse.

The physicians discovered nothing, and even the Elders at the Primarch Stage sensed nothing.

Even the Patriarch remained completely unaware while continuing discussions with the clan elders late into the afternoon.

Only several hours later did an old secluded ancestor within the Miredon Family suddenly frown during cultivation. He had been here ever since the time their Miredon Family arrived here in the Eighth Bastion City, never setting foot out, but suddenly, he felt something strange.

His eyes slowly opened as he spoke out softly.

”… Strange.”

He stared at his palm as faint black-red strands briefly surfaced beneath his skin before disappearing once more.

His expression changed slightly as he immediately focused his senses inward.

The next moment, his pupils constricted violently.

”Thereʼs an insidious hex inside my soul!? How!?”

His horrified voice echoed through the underground cultivation chamber.
