Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5109 A Power That Makes One Go Astray

Evelynn paused for a moment. After pondering, she said slowly, ”I believe you will use it if you deem it necessary. Since it is your decision, the decision of the head, we should be inclined to follow.”

”…”

Davis was left speechless. He wanted to ask if she would approve or not, happy or hate, but he shook his head.

”Forget it. If the time comes when I need to use it, Iʼll tell you without fail.”

”Why are you worried? I would never hate you. I am aware you need to keep using this power in order to improve it. I believe you wonʼt misuse it.”

Davis couldnʼt help but smile, ”Evy, my love. Iʼm telling you this power makes one go astray easily.”

”…”

”At every Obscure Intent, thereʼs a steep impasse where people wouldnʼt be able to overcome. For example, I think Level Two Obscure Intent, State of Control, is already the limit for Mingzhi. If she tries to progress now without staying in it for a long time, she will likely go insane, as is recorded in many Heart Intent records. In truth, further progression for her is doubtful. Itʼd be a miracle if she could comprehend State of Divine Possession. Iʼm not belittling her, but it is just the way it is. The gap is just too great that it instantly puts the cultivator who comprehended it above all peers.”

”…”

”Although I donʼt find this state to be difficult, Iʼm now finding it incredibly addicting to control otherʼs Will. Itʼs like- I had that forbidden taste and canʼt get it out of my head anymore. Now that I know I can control peopleʼs Will, it is difficult to look at them as fellow human beings. This is what is difficult to erase. So, do you think I still wonʼt lay my Will on you or your sisters just for fun?”

”You wonʼt.” Evelynnʼs voice was firm this time, ”You will never force us with your Will unless itʼs for our own safety.”

Davisʼs gaze flickered, ”Thank you for believing me. However, did you say it thinking I would command you to prioritize your safety since youʼre so disobedient now?”

”…”

Evelynn went silent. He was spot on.

Davis chuckled and was about to change the topic when he sensed Evelynnʼs gaze fall elsewhere.

”Whatʼs going on? Someone is visiting?”

”Mhm, thereʼs a disturbance outside,” Evelynn responded calmly.

”…”

Davis furrowed his brows.

Who was here to visit their temporary residence?

It was just halfway to the first day ending since Fairy Divinacia started absorbing just twelve hours ago and said she needed three days, but there was already some trouble?

==========

A cold drizzle descended upon Eighth Bastion City like threads of silver silk, veiling the narrow streets beneath a pale morning haze. Spirit lanterns hanging beneath tiled roofs flickered weakly against the gloomy dawn while merchants hurriedly opened their storefronts for the day.

At the western district of the core city stood a long and grand mansion. It was near the teleportation formation.

It measured three stories high, rectangular in shape, and was built from pale gray stone that carried faint formation inscriptions along its foundation. The residence did not appear extravagant compared to the estates of great cultivation clans, yet it possessed a quiet dignity. Its walls were clean, solidly constructed, and the protective barrier surrounding the estate remained perfectly intact, shimmering faintly whenever rainwater brushed against it.

Within the courtyard, grass swayed gently beneath the rain while decorative spirit trees rustled quietly in the wind.

Unfortunately, tranquility didnʼt manage to last long.

*Bang-bang!~*

The front gates trembled.

”Open up!”

*Bang!~*

Another heavy kick slammed against the entrance.

”Do you hear us in there!?”

Several men dressed in dark blue robes embroidered with similar insignias stood outside the courtyard entrance. Their expressions were ugly and impatient, their voices sharp enough to pierce through the entire street.

The passersby nearby hurriedly avoided the area. After all, no one wished to provoke a force that could knock on cities this boldly in the core city.

However, they remained at the edge of the street, watching with amused gazes.

”The old man sold this place for a laughable amount two weeks ago. It practically sold for scraps. Now that thereʼs a rumor stating that the Saint has surprisingly agreed to make this city his alliance stronghold, this residence is suddenly worth ten times more!”

”Ten times? Pui! It could gain more in a few years if the Saint really made it his alliance stronghold. By then- ugh, just thinking about it makes one furious.”

One of the younger men sneered as he kicked the gate.

”Hand the deed back, and weʼll generously compensate you again!”

”Otherwise, donʼt blame us for being impolite!”

*Bang!~*

*Bang!~*

The wooden gate trembled violently under repeated strikes.

Inside the residence, minor spirits or wisps in the form of birds hidden among flowering trees fluttered into the air in alarm. They rushed to the branches of the Ethereal Lumina Tree in the skies.

People knew how these wisps came about as the thick heaven and earth energy interacted with the surroundings, whether it be a wood, water body, or metal body, and other elemental bodies. They were a welcome sight to see since they gave them a sense of tranquility.

The shouting continued without restraint, startling the neighborhood.

”Cowards! Hiding inside like turtles?”

”You think buying this residence means it belongs to you forever?”

”Do you know who youʼre offending!?”

Their voices grew increasingly aggressive, attracting more distant onlookers, yet no one dared step forward.

”I heard mostly women live here now. No wonder theyʼre too scared to answer!”

Laughter erupted among the group.

”If they know whatʼs good for them, theyʼll kneel and return the deed!” One of the troublemakers narrowed his eyes maliciously.

”Or perhaps we should simply break the gates down ourselves-”

Their voices paused as the mansion gates suddenly opened and the laughter ceased.

A woman stepped out into the rain.

She wore a flowing black robe embroidered with dark silver serpent patterns that glimmered faintly beneath the lantern light. Her long crimson-purple hair cascaded down her shoulders like moonlit silk, streaked subtly with silver.

Covering her face was a black serpent mask.

Its surface resembled layered obsidian scales, elegant yet ominous, fitting tightly across her face like the skin of a divine snake. Narrow eye slits curved sharply upward, while a vertical slit rested upon the forehead, aligned perfectly with the hidden third eye beneath.

Rainwater slid silently across the barrier of this strange masked woman.

The moment she appeared, the atmosphere seemed to grow colder and heavier, making it difficult for the troublemakers to breathe.
