Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5128: Innate Mental Affliction?

A few seconds ago…

Davis’s happiness right now was also plagued with a hint of worry as he wondered how to get rid of Evelynn’s undesirable bloodline traits.

He couldn’t let this innate emotion wreak havoc on his lovely Evelynn’s mind.

Although this massacre couldn’t be considered therapy but enabling her bloodlust, Davis was more than happy to accommodate and facilitate some genocide of a wicked power for her if it would help again.

When all was said and done, he would choose to be evil for her at any time of the day.

His morals could eat shit compared to her well-being. However, he could only do this so many times before Evelynn’s mind turned corrupted and she truly turned evil. This was what he didn’t want and feared. Hence, he felt like he must put a stop to it.

But how?

Life energy can’t readily cure what’s innate. Otherwise, he would’ve cured some of his children of their mental imperfections long ago, not to mention Mingzhi’s irascible mood swings stemming from her twilight physique and worsened by her boosted comprehension of Enigmatic Heart Laws.

These kinds of imperfections could only be counteracted using various kinds of methods, such as using a mind or soul calming pill, but one that perfectly countered this imperfection.

Although Dalila’s pill concocting methods and her knowledge in identifying the characteristics of herbs and ingredients were vast, her proficiency was still in concocting cultivation pills and not treatment pills, so she wasn’t at a level where she could correctly cook up a pill recipe that perfectly counters these defects, nor did she dare to attempt something like rectifying emotions as that was a realm she didn’t understand.

Hence, these kinds of issues still plagued the Davis Family.

Davis wanted to fix these things, and he didn’t know where to start, but suddenly, he turned to look at Jillian Hayden, who moved ever so lightly.

A thought suddenly entered his head as he recalled a peculiar way of treating illnesses.

Fighting poison with poison, a trait of the poison apothecary. Were the sadistic emotions from Three-Eyed Chromatic Hex Arachnid and bloodlust from Evilbane Hexweaver Arachnid both types of innate mental poison in the bloodline that corrupted the mind?

Wasn’t the Hayden Family known to be a family of poison apothecary power? He wondered if Jillian Hayden could treat the poisonous emotion of bloodlust plaguing Evelynn and began to speak with her.

However, she seemed to be full of hatred for nearly everything in this world right now, including herself, which was understandable. He would also riot against the world if he were suppressed to this degree and hate himself for being helpless. Nonetheless, he didn’t know where to begin.

Evelynn was responsible for the Hayden Family’s fall. Would this woman love it or hate it?

He was sure this woman contained hatred for her own family, but there was also love. If love wasn’t there, then she wouldn’t have decided to stay here but would’ve instead left with Venerable Knight Lussandra when she had the chance.

City Lord Davis thought for a few moments in silence before speaking.

“Listen, I’m not a good person. I will go to great lengths to do a few things I prioritize in my life. If you can help me with one thing, I promise I will release you and even aid you in your cultivation to reach the apex you have imagined. As for what invited this change, just think that the old City Lord is dead and born anew. I no longer have any interest in you, alright? So don’t be so hateful and afraid.”

“…”

Jillian Hayden felt like she had heard the most ridiculous thing in her life.

Wasn’t he a good person? Wasn’t that obvious?

He would go to great lengths to do a few things he prioritized, like siring a child of his own at the expense of violating many women? Again, wasn’t that obvious?

He wanted her help? What could she possibly do as she was still a junior? The only thing she could think of was sleeping with someone else to increase his connections and make him more influential.

If that was the case, then she felt it was no wonder he would drop his plans for making her his mistress.

However, she forced herself to calm down.

The old City Lord was dead and born anew?

Certainly, she couldn’t see a resemblance to the City Lord who came to visit her in the dungeons nearly every day. That City Lord was stern and held a cold gaze that didn’t even look at her like she was a person, but this City Lord in front of her was somewhat different, his mannerisms resembling those of a young man who sounded carefree but in truth was carrying a lot of secrets in his heart.

If she didn’t think he was playing some kind of game, she would think he was possessed or something.

After calming down, she forcefully asked, “What do you want me to help with?”

City Lord Davis started, “I heard the Hayden Family is a family skilled in the art of poison medicine. I also heard that you were a poison apothecary, but I’m not sure to what degree. A person important to me is suffering from unwanted emotions due to their bloodline. You think you could help with this issue?”

Jillian Hayden frowned.

This request was unexpected. However, with someone asking her about her ability in her occupation, she quickly wanted to reply professionally as she raised her chin.

“So an innate mental affliction? That’s a very common mental affliction, regularly seen in those who practice poison and possess poison-attribute bloodlines or other rare bloodlines that aren’t highly compatible with the balance of yin and yang. Even my own Hayden Family’s bloodline had this problem, but it has long been treated at the source. Therefore, the problem you stated should also be treatable, but depending on the grade and type of the bloodline and the poisonous herbs we could acquire, the difficulty could range from hard to nearly impossible.”

She paused before asking, “This important person of yours- what kind of bloodline do they have?”

She then narrowed her eyes, wondering why she should help the City Lord when all he ever did was torture her mentally.

Davis’s eyes flickered with interest. His Evelynn was also a poison apothecary, but her studies in this regard could not compare to an ancient family since they lacked the necessary materials to study. There was no poison apothecary inheritance they could use.

“You don’t need to know now.”

However, he declined, causing her to look lividly amused.

“Then how will I be able to help?”

“Let’s take this one step at a time.” City Lord Davis chuckled, “Right now, you need to hear what happened outside today. Your Hayden Family is ruined.”

“Mhm. My Hayden Family is ruined.”

Jillian Hayden responded as she scoffed, “So you want me to help but still threaten me if I don’t?”

“You’re not understanding it quite right. I said your Hayden Family is already ruined.”

“…”

“It wasn’t I who ruined your Hayden Family. They offended someone they couldn’t hope to offend and reaped what they sowed.”

“…”

Jillian Hayden narrowed her eyes, her pupils dilating. Then, her expression slowly changed before she screamed, “Impossible! They should have the backing of the Saint now! Who else other than you and the Saint could possibly harm them?”

City Lord Davis scoffed like her, “You’re a funny one. There are many individuals above us in terms of prowess, like Venerable Knight Lussandra, and in terms of power, the Hexadra Clan overwhelms us. Your Hayden Family simply offended the wrong person or power.”

Jillian Hayden felt livid. For what reason was she here then?

Her entire body couldn’t stop trembling, and her energy kept clashing against her internal organs without control, making her feel pain. If it continued, she might spit blood.

She raised her hand and pointed at the City Lord as she realized something, “You-! You said this news could be connected with how you’re treating me…”

“That’s right.” City Lord Davis clapped lightly, “You’re still sharp enough to conduct a medicinal diagnosis and treatment. Good. The person who ruined your Hayden Family is precisely the important person I’m talking about. They need the treatment to clear their bloodlust, but then your family offended them greatly, which got them destroyed.”

“…”

Jillian Hayden’s heart sank, her arm slowly falling as her expression kept trembling in disbelief.

This couldn’t be true, right?

“If the Hayden Family had been any courteous and welcoming, their poison apothecary services could’ve been utilized, and they might’ve earned a huge amount of wealth. However, they just had to offend that important person just because they had the backing of the Saint. Your family is quite irresponsibly greedy, you know. They even sent their prized gem to be with the Saint as a mere maid, but now ended up as my plaything again.”

“Shut up!”

Jillian Hayden yelled with her teary eyes filled with sorrow and hatred, “If anything happens to my father, mother, and little brother… I swear I will-“

*Tock~* *Tock!~*

At this moment, the sound of someone knocking on the door could be heard.

“Come in.”

City Lord Davis said casually, and the Steward walked in with a faint smile, “My Lord, the parents of Jillian Hayden are here requesting an audience. They’re kneeling on the ground before the entrance, refusing to leave without seeing their daughter. I’m afraid this might turn into a thorny issue if it spreads too much and gets taken advantage of by the other City Lords or your rivals.”

Davis blinked.

He turned to look at the dumbfounded expression of Jillian Hayden before returning his gaze.

“Understood, bring them up to the hall.”

Jillian Hayden’s heart shook. Her parents, they were still alive.

She turned to look at the City Lord and asked, “What truly happened?”

City Lord Davis explained that nearly ninety percent of the Exalt Stage experts and Empyrean Stage experts are dead after they fought with the Miredon Family while being affected by a fatal hex that caused their bloodline to turn into poison because they suspected each other of having a hex expert, leaving them both utterly reduced to trash, a small power without many forces.

Jillian Hayden, as young as she was, was able to realize the implications quickly.

They might get quickly assimilated by others or even slaughtered until none of their members remain alive. After all, they still carried many treasures!

Who wouldn’t eye them like a hawk, waiting for the right moment to sweep in and rip their flesh apart in one fell swoop?

Moreover, she understood that both these families had offended this so-called important person that they flawlessly executed this plan of theirs to get them to fight each other. After all, an individual could only do so much when it comes to facing an entire power filled with many cultivators.

“I want to see my parents, and then I’ll answer you.”

Jillian Hayden quickly stated her wishes.

“Sure.”

Although the visit from her parents was unexpected, Davis was planning the same thing. Hence, he had revealed what Evelynn did without exposing her identity since he didn’t want any problems later on.

After all, once Jillian Hayden worked on Evelynn and tested her bloodline, it wouldn’t take a genius to discover that Evelynn was responsible for the fall of the Hayden Family.

Jillian Hayden quickly got up from the bed and rushed out, but suddenly, a hand caught her wrist, causing her to be jolted back as she turned to look at the City Lord.

“By the way, if you divulge any of this, I promise you will live a life crueler than death, even if I pity you so badly right now. And, if you still feel emboldened enough to play, I would be sure to pass this perk to your parents and your little brother, ensuring they never die just like you wanted.”

The City Lord held a smile that was not exactly a smile. His words were casual, but they carried a tremendous pressure that made Jillian Hayden nearly fall limp, her heart clenching, wanting to scream in fear.

“You devil…” She barely squeezed out, her face going pale.

City Lord Davis let her go and nodded, “Debatable, but sometimes, I’m indeed worse than a devil. Now off you go.”

He pushed her back forward lightly, making her gain some boost to run away, but she was barely able to walk with her trembling legs. She still kept her eye on him, starting to wonder if he was really the City Lord as she didn’t think the City Lord who practiced water-attribute cultivation arts could unleash such a terrifying killing intent for that minute moment.

The calamitous pressure she endured was unlike anything she had ever felt since her heart still refused to beat, freezing in place.

Only after a few seconds did her heart start to beat again, and she looked like a bird that was terrified as she took deep breaths again and again to calm herself down.

Her pace was so slow that Davis strode past her, but she clenched her teeth and rushed forward, eager to meet her father and mother.

They were here for her.

They didn’t abandon her.

She was so happy that it didn’t matter if this damned City Lord was beheaded from the back now.

She didn’t care about her disheveled appearance and ran towards them before taking flight, quickly appearing in the hall with faint dark dashes, her form swift like a shadow and graceful as a bird.

“Father~ Mother~”

“My daughter!~”

Her father cried out, his voice trembling and his arms shaking as he reached out his hands.

The mother also reached out her hands, causing her to fall into their embrace.
