Divine Emperor of Death

Chapter 5105 A Scurrying Roach

The Eighth Bastion Cityʼs Treasury was less a vault and more of a pocket realm embedded in the Treasury Hall.

The Treasury was on the highest floor, past layers of Peak-Level Exalt Grade gates, defensive formations, and combat constructs. The path to the Treasury was illuminated by rivers of spirit light. As soon as one entered the pocket realm, countless crystalline lamps floated through the air like stars, casting golden and azure hues across the mountain of treasures.

The sheer scale of wealth was enough to make even a seasoned Primarch pause for a moment and breath a sigh of awe.

The treasures here had been gathered from taxes imposed on the entire city as well as tributes received from major powers. Although minor, plundered wealth from invaders or bandits, protection fees from merchants, and offerings from refugees also made up for a significant amount when collected from hundreds of millions of people.

Everything in the city eventually flowed here, only to be given to the Hexadra Clan.

And now, Davis walked through it all with unconcealed fascination.

His disguised white hair rested over his shoulders while the dark crow mask concealed half his face, giving him a mysterious and somewhat sinister appearance. Yet beneath the mask, his crimson eyes gleamed with childish excitement.

”So many treasures...”

Even he could not help feeling stunned.

Towering shelves stretched endlessly into the distance, each separated by colossal formation barriers and categorized according to value and usage. Entire districts within the treasury were dedicated to specific resources.

One region stored nothing but spirit herbs, another contained magical beast materials, another held cultivation techniques, further beyond were weapons, manuals, and even shattered artifacts from long-destroyed immortal battles.

There was no telling if they could be useful since half of them seemed to be taken from normal people who just wanted to get here and build a new life, but they could be melted and reforged into something better.

Nonetheless, he continued to move forward and saw more and more tributes such as formation blueprints, pill recipes, forging methods, and armament blueprints. As long as they could be exchanged for value, they were here.

Some jade slips floated in formation circles, protected by seals that scanned anyone attempting to touch them.

Davis reached toward one, easily passing through the protective seals.

”Eightfold Prison Locking Formation...”

His lips curved as he found that it was a peak Sovereign Grade prison formation capable of suppressing even high-level Empyreans.

He took another jade slip and looked through it, finding a spatial transportation formation.

”Oh, this one is rare…”

Davis found it was a teleportation formation useful for short distances, even in a dense space. With fine-tweaking, even locked spaces could be broken momentarily before the formation fully activated, allowing a power to perform blitz strikes or escape maneuvers.

He kept it back and went through the others a bit, finding them interesting.

He went through many things, mostly the pill recipes, since the Davis Family was lacking in just that. Although he heard that this trouble was temporarily averted due to Lest Mistwalkerʼs younger sister, who is talented in alchemy and also knows a lot of pill recipes, what the Davis Family always sought were unique pills derived to increase an individualʼs strength.

Since Dalila was capable of creating new pill recipes all the time with her wide and immaculate alchemy knowledge, all he needed to bring her was more pill recipes for her to be inspired and chance upon more ideas.

Hence, he knew these pill recipes were going to be useful.

Last but not least, he could see a mountain of transcendent crystals sprawling in the distance, even elemental transcendent crystals that rarely enter the market. They encompassed the treasury as though keeping this world rich and exquisite.

Davis spent a lot of time looking around.

He already knew of the important treasures from the memories selectively plundered from City Lord Kain, so he was looking for lucky encounters and interesting treasures. When he wanted to leave, he would take this entire treasury away, minus the tracking talismans, discs, and marks that the Hexadra Clan placed to monitor this place.

Davis spent a long time here wandering about when he suddenly felt strange.

The alarm formation outside seemingly reacted to something like a ripple but failed to elicit a reaction. If Davis didnʼt maintain his soul sense there, then he wouldnʼt have noticed.

ʼIs it that roach?ʼ

He thought, thinking back to the scene where City Lord Davis sensed a strange anomaly during the banquet.

Davis could swear he saw a silhouette crawling out of another personʼs figure. This figure came out of the bathroom when the silhouette crawled out like a specter and disappeared within the blink of an eye, disappearing from his view and soul sense, making Davis wonder if he had been hallucinating due to the intake of wine at that time.

He inwardly cursed the wine for that and swore never to drink again unless he was at home and accompanied by Yilla.

But now, he had his suspicions.

Davis narrowed his eyes and slowed down his breathing.

The treasury became silent once more lest the humanoid constructs working twenty-four-seven to value and arrange the resources properly. Unlike the combat constructs, these constructs looked more like information and labor constructs.

Some more time passed in silence.

Davisʼs eyes swept across the darkness carefully when a faint silhouette flashed on a distant shelf.

He disappeared instantly and appeared near the disturbance, but the silhouette he managed to see strangely vanished. His soul sense that extended from him failed to pick up anything, leaving him speechless.

ʼEven a ghost canʼt hide from me… whatʼs going on? A karmic entity?ʼ

Davisʼs heart sank, but believing it was obviously something else since it was possible it was unleashed by one of the guests, since it crawled out after they entered the bathroom, he held his conjectures about the Dream Dimension in place.

Nonetheless, he also left the area and then concealed himself slowly, only for the silhouette to surface again like a being that had fused with the shadows.

Davis narrowed his eyes again as he gave chase immediately.

But this time, he was much slower and more careful, not making a single sound.

Soon, he appeared above the silhouette. However, he didnʼt make a move but was trying to see through what the other party was up to.

They were moving around the shelves and looking to and fro.

ʼIs this a person who came to steal from this Treasury?ʼ

Davis went speechless since he expected something else entirely. What was this person doing here? What could be so important that they would risk their lives to enter this fortress?

He instantly began to think excitedly if there was some ridiculously good hidden treasure here, and let this roach do all it wants.

He called it a roach because the movement was so bizarre that the person who was using this strange concealment technique seemed to be literally- crawling. But Davis had to give it to this person. Whoever this was- their understanding and skill in concealment was just short of Nadia-

- when she had been a Nether Springs Death Wolf.

He saw that they were able to hide even their lifeforce, which was extremely difficult.

With Death Laws, it was easily done, but with other Laws, it proved to be quite difficult. Of course, only he and Nadia would say it was easy because their death energy was purer than most. For others, concealing using death energy was no different than wearing a fully blocked mask and suffocating to death.

If they try to conceal their lifeforce, then they mightʼve succeeded in trying to get rid of it instead.

Hence, seeing this strange technique that was able to hide lifeforce in action, Davis was intrigued.

The person below him was translucent, like a specter, but also black dust, like a stain in the corner, difficult to see in the darkness. Their footsteps vanished rather easily despite the way they moved creepily; their soul fluctuations were perfectly masked, and their aura, energy, and spatial traces remain concealed and distorted, making it harder to track them.

It was like he was following this person in a straight line when he suddenly lost sight of them, only for this person to appear elsewhere within that short period.

Davis felt it was very strange, wondering what kind of movement technique this was.

He was starting to get ideas, thinking if he should capture this person instead of killing them.

Making his decision, he quickly descended and smashed his foot against the back of his body.

But suddenly, the silhouette erupted into dozens of silhouettes and rushed towards different directions, escaping again.

”…”

Davis watched dumbfoundedly as this technique very much resembled a fucking cockroach, a group of cockroaches scurrying away after being discovered and smashed.

However, there was no way he was going to let this person escape, so he quickly resumed the chase as he locked down the Treasury secretly.

However, as he tried to use his soul sense to mark every one of these freaking cockroach-like crawling silhouettes, they all disappeared from his soul sense, stunning him.
