Chapter 198: Gifts ( 4 )

Fu Chen’an knocked the biscuit on the table and heard a loud sound. This biscuit was hard, dry, and very compact. Two pieces should be enough for a soldier.

He then broke the biscuit into two and soaked half of it in a bowl of water. As soon as it touched the water, the biscuit absorbed it instantly. Not long after, it softened and turned into a paste-like consistency.

Fu Chen’an used a spoon to stir it. He took a sniff and tried it. Although it looked like gruel, it tasted like thick porridge, with a hint of earthy and light savory taste.

His eyes lit up, and he said, ”Wife, it will be delicious if soaked in soup.”

Yao Zhi nodded and added, ”It is also much lighter compared to whole grains, so it would lessen the burden of transporting this biscuit.”

When Fu Chen’an heard this, he nodded. ”Indeed. During a battle, time is of the essence. If we could bring light food, we could travel faster.”

”So, I’m thinking of selling the method of making compressed biscuits to the General.”

Hearing his wife’s words, Fu Chen’an was taken aback. He looked at her and asked, ”Wife, this is a good thing. Are you sure you want to sell the method to the General?”

Yao Zhi nodded and replied, ”No matter how good the method is, it is only useful when used correctly in the right place.”

After thinking for a while, Fu Chen’an finally shook his head and said, ”Lately, I have been in the limelight, and some people have been jealous of me. If we sell this method to the General, I’m afraid it will bring trouble to us.”

The moment she heard this, Yao Zhi looked at him and asked worriedly, ”Husband, is it because I’m cooking for the General?”

”Well, that’s part of it.”

A lot of people thought that he was currying favor with the General by using his wife’s cooking skills. While this was also part of the reason, the main reason was that he was eating better food than others. Without comparison, there wouldn’t be harm.

His wife sent lunch to him every day, which made others jealous. Not only because the food was delicious, but also because the soldiers couldn’t meet their family members in the barracks.

When he asked the General to allow his wife to visit him, he didn’t think that this simple matter could make others jealous of him. Only now did he realize that this was a special favor bestowed by the General.

While neither of them had any hidden intentions, in other people’s eyes, they were sucking up to the General, and all of his achievements were nothing but the General’s way of lifting his standing.

He didn’t want to make his wife feel bad, but he couldn’t let this situation continue. After a long silence, he said, ”Wife, I will talk to the General and tell him that you are busy opening land and can’t deliver food anymore.”

”Then, how about the money he paid us before?”

Fu Chen’an thought for a moment and said, ”If you feel bad, then just give him a set of soap to make up for the money.”

”Alright, I will listen to you,” Yao Zhi nodded.

Although she couldn’t sell the method to the General, she could sell it to the General’s wife using Lei Feng’s identity. After her husband returned to the barracks, she would visit the Madam.

With this thought, she put this matter at the back of her mind. Since they had discussed the important matter, it was time for her to give her husband his gift.

”Husband, I have another thing for you.”

After she said this, she stood up and went to the cabinet. Using her body to block her husband’s sight, she took out her spatial bag from the system’s storage.

Then, she put all of the compressed biscuits into the bag, 5 small wooden jars of wound ointment, each jar contained 150 milliliters of ointment.

Besides that, she also put in 108 pieces of marrow cakes, 50 tanghulu, 50 stuffed sweet rice cakes, and 50 fried dough twists.

Her husband had a sweet tooth, so the desserts she gave him were mostly sweet and savory. When she was done, she closed the cabinet and returned to the table.

In Fu Chen’an’s eyes, he only saw his wife rummaging in the cabinet for a long time. Seeing the small pouch she was holding, he thought that his wife had prepared pocket money for him.

He smiled and said, ”Wife, you don’t have to give me money. This time, I brought back my stipend with me.”

After he said this, he took out a pouch from his clothes and placed it on the table.

Yao Zhi didn’t check the amount of money her husband gave her and smiled. ”Thank you, Husband.”

No matter how much money her husband gave her, the important thing was his intention. He handed all of his money to her, which showed that he trusted, respected, and valued her.

She handed the spatial bag to her husband and said, ”Husband, this was the gift my Master gave me.”

Fu Chen’an checked the bag and didn’t find anything. He said, ”Wife, this is just a normal pouch. What makes you trust his words just because of this?”

Yao Zhi smiled mysteriously and said, ”Open it and take out the item inside.”

Raising his eyebrows, Fu Chen’an followed her words. He thought that the item inside was the reason his wife believed the physician’s words.

He reached into the pouch and tried to take out the item. Unexpectedly, he couldn’t take anything out even after his arm went inside the pouch. Seeing this, his eyes widened in shock.

”Wife, this is...”

”Husband, this is called a spatial bag. You can’t take anything out before you bind it to your soul. Try to drip your blood on it.”

As the Host of the auction system, Yao Zhi didn’t have to bind the reward items. But if she wanted to hand over the ownership of the reward items, the new owner had to bind them with a blood contract.
