Chapter 154: A Burden ( 2 )

Hearing the guard’s words, Yao Zhi thought for a moment and asked, ”Sir, how long will it take for my husband to finish his training?”

”Usually, morning training will last until 10 o’clock in the morning.”

It’s still more than one hour, and she couldn’t wait that long. After she thought for a while, Yao Zhi asked, ”Sir, can you help me send this food to my husband? Half of the food is for the General.”

The guard didn’t think too much and agreed readily. ”No problem.”

Yao Zhi pointed at the bamboo baskets and said, ”This one is for the General, and the rest is for my husband.”

After she said this, she reached into the bamboo basket. Using it as a cover, she took out two marrow cakes from her system’s storage and handed them to the guard.

”Sir, I made this cake this morning. Please have a try.”

Gaining some benefits by helping others was common, so the guard didn’t refuse and accepted it. ”Thank you, Sister-in-law.”

The guard helped her unload the bamboo baskets before he waved at another guard. The two of them shared the cakes and carried the bamboo baskets to the military barracks.

Since she had told her husband that she wouldn’t come tomorrow, Yao Zhi didn’t leave any message for him and returned home.

When Fu Chen’an received the food, he rushed out but couldn’t find his wife. He kicked the small stones in annoyance. He wouldn’t be able to see his wife for two days and had already missed her.

Noticing his bad mood, the guard made up his mind to inform him next time, even if he was busy.

After the morning training, Fu Chen’an returned to his tent and saw his friends crowding around his bed. ”What are you all doing?” he asked.

”Brother Fu, I heard that your wife sent a lot of food again. Share it with us,” Wang Tiezhu said.

Fu Chen’an didn’t reply to him and went to check the bamboo basket. He took out four waist bags and checked the contents. As soon as he opened the bag, a sweet fragrance filled the tent.

Everyone couldn’t help but salivate.

Ignoring their reactions, Fu Chen’an checked the rest of the bags and realized that there were two types of snacks. Looking at the number of bags, he was sure that his wife prepared two bags for him and two bags for the General.

While it was okay for his wife to cook for the General since they received his money, it didn’t include snacks. Reaching this conclusion, he tied the bags and placed them in the bamboo baskets. He would eat them by himself.

Then, he opened the jars and saw the pan-fried sausage inside. This time, he was more generous and gave the General a jar.

He continued to check the food and divided it into two portions. When it came to the waterskins, he thought that one of them was for the General. But when he took it out, he saw a small piece of paper pasted on it.

As soon as he saw the handwriting, he recognized it instantly. His wife’s handwriting was as neat and beautiful as usual. He opened the paper and saw the message.

”Husband, this water is for you. You have to patrol in hot weather and might get heatstroke. Remember to drink more water when you go out. Also, take the fruit chips with you. If you are hungry, you can tide it over with them.”

After he read the message, he folded it and stored it in his pouch. A smile bloomed in his face as his eyes softened.

Seeing his expression, everyone started to tease him.

”Brother Fu, did your wife send you a love letter?” Wang Tiezhu asked.

”I wonder what my sister-in-law said that melted the cold Squad Leader Fu,” another added.

Hearing their words, Fu Chen’an was not annoyed but felt proud. He raised his chin and replied, ”If you are jealous, go find a wife and ask her to write a letter to you.”

As soon as he said this, everyone felt their fists itch and wanted to punch his arrogant face. But before they could take action, Fu Chen’an threw a bag of apricot chips at them and said, ”Share it with everyone.”

Since he was generous, they wouldn’t hold it against him this time. Everyone no longer bothered him and was busy sharing the fruit chips.

Sugar was expensive, and this was the first time they knew that fruit could be turned into sweets. Only a fool would offend him and miss the delicious food.

At the same time, Fu Chen’an counted the marrow cakes and gave half to the General. Consider it his lunch and dinner for today and tomorrow.

As for the stir-fried vegetables and egg drop soup, his wife already packed them separately, so he didn’t open them.

He packed all the food into a bamboo basket and carried it to the General’s tent. Since this was not the first time he came to send food, the guard quickly went to report.

”General, Squad Leader Fu is waiting outside,” he said.

”Let him in,” Lu Qianxuan said without moving his gaze from the report.

Soon after, Fu Chen’an walked in with a bamboo basket. He placed the bamboo basket beside his legs, cupped his fists, and greeted him. ”This subordinate greeted the General.”

”No need for formalities,” Lu Qianxuan waved his hand. After a moment of pause, he asked, ”What did your wife bring today?”

Fu Chen’an took out the 3-layered bamboo basket and placed it on the desk. ”This subordinate didn’t know. My wife left without seeing me.”

Noticing the sourness in his tone, Lu Qianxuan raised his eyebrows. This young man seemed to become more comfortable with his presence. He even dared to complain to him now.

Although he thought so, he didn’t mind it. He could see the potential in Fu Chen’an and planned to groom him as his close aide. But before that, he needed to know his personality, and having a closer relationship would make it easier to investigate.
