Chapter 166: A Fairy From Heaven ( 2 )

Noticing Yang Sanlang’s glance, Yao Zhi was confused.

She didn’t know what she said that made Yang Sanlang become so happy, but she didn’t think too much about it. There was nothing between them, and she didn’t have any obligation or rights to care about him.

After she informed them, Yao Zhi wore a bamboo hat and drove her donkey cart to the military barracks.

When she arrived, it was only 11 o’clock in the morning. Today, she planned to give her husband the method for making the bioplastic.

Since she often came to send lunch, the guards had become familiar with her. Seeing her coming, one of them quickly informed Fu Chen’an.

Noticing this, Yao Zhi took out 4 peach cobbler egg rolls from the basket and wrapped them with a clean fabric. She walked to the guard and said, ”Sir, thank you for your hard work. I made some snacks, please try them.”

The guard’s eyes lit up when he saw the golden brown snacks. Although he felt embarrassed, the fragrance of the food made his mouth water. After a moment of hesitation, he still reached out and took the snacks.

”Thank you, Sister-in-law.”

Just as the guard took the snacks, another guard returned with Fu Chen’an. Seeing them, the guard quickly bowed and said, ”Squad Leader Fu.”

Fu Chen’an nodded at him and glanced at the snacks in his hands. Knowing that it was his wife who gave them, he said nothing and said, ”Wife, let’s go under the tree. It’s hot here.”

”Okay,” Yao Zhi nodded and walked with him.

While the guards were enjoying the snacks, Fu Chen’an placed the empty bamboo baskets and waterskins on the cart and unloaded the lunch.

Afterward, he led his wife to the boulder and sat down. He wiped the sweat from his wife’s forehead before he said, ”Wife, in the future, you should be more careful.”

”Husband, what do you mean by that?” Yao Zhi asked in confusion.

Meeting her clear eyes, Fu Chen’an thought for a moment before he said, ”Some people noticed that your vegetables are different from those sold in the market. I think it’s better not to sell them to the barracks anymore. Also, just use ordinary ingredients to prepare lunch for the General.”

When she heard his words, Yao Zhi’s heart skipped a beat. She looked at him and asked, ”Husband, why did you—”

Before she could finish her words, Fu Chen’an tightened his hold on her palms and said, ”Wife, I only care about your safety. For me, you are my wife and the one I like. As for anything else, I don’t care about it.”

It would be a lie if Yao Zhi said that she wasn’t moved by his words. She never expected him to still care about her, even when he might suspect her identity.

Even though he made a guess and eventually found out about her soul not being from this world, there was no evidence to prove it. But she didn’t want him to get into trouble because of her. So, she changed her mind about giving him the method to make bioplastic.

Since he had brought this matter up, she smiled and asked, ”Husband, are you thinking that some foreign soul took over my body?”

Fu Chen’an stared at her and asked carefully, ”Aren’t you?”

”Of course not,” Yao Zhi chuckled. ”I was poisoned from a young age, and the poison affected my body and mind, which caused me to suffer from anxiety and depression. That’s why my behavior and personality were so extreme before.”

”After I met the divine physician, he gave me the antidote, and now that the poison has been cured, I can finally control my mind. So, it’s not that my body was taken over by a foreign soul. It’s just that I’m recovering now.”

”As for the vegetables, they taste better than other vegetables because I watered them using medicinal soup once a week. Because of the medicinal effect, the vegetables taste better and can nourish the body. That’s why you feel refreshed and more energetic after you eat them.”

”Wife, did the medicinal soup cost a lot of money? Will the money I gave you be enough?” Fu Chen’an asked.

”The medicinal soup is brewed using common medicinal herbs found in the mountain foothills. I gather them once a week, and it’s not far from our house. I didn’t even enter the mountain,” Yao Zhi replied.

Hearing this, Fu Chen’an nodded but said nothing. Although his wife’s explanation made sense, he still couldn’t shake off the feeling that the soul inside this body was different from before.

Even if the cause of her previous behavior was poison, he trusted his gut feeling. The soul residing in this body was different.

No amount of reasons could explain how she learned so much unusual knowledge and had such beautiful handwriting. Also, those dishes she made, each of them could rival the dishes sold in big restaurants.

For someone who grew up in a family that was struggling to make ends meet, it was impossible for her to be able to cook such dishes. What’s more, with her previous behavior, it was impossible for her to be able to work in a restaurant and learn how to cook.

But since his wife had given those excuses, he would take them. He didn’t want to and didn’t dare to pry into his wife’s secrets.

What if she were a fairy from Heaven, and when her secret was exposed, she had to go back? If that happened, where should he go to find his wife again?

With these thoughts, he nodded and said, ”So that’s why.”

Yao Zhi nodded and patted his hand. ”Mhmm. So, you don’t have to worry.”

”Okay.”

After a moment of silence, Fu Chen’an said, ”Wife, I already finished 3 bags of the fruit snacks, and there is only 1 bag left. It’s very delicious.”

”If you like it, I will bring more for you tomorrow.”

”Good.”

They talked for a while before Yao Zhi left and Fu Chen’an returned to the barracks.
