Chapter 98: Cook Li’s Predicament ( 2 )

Hearing her husband’s words, Yao Zhi let out a sigh of relief.

Seeing this, Fu Chen’an said, ”Physician Mu said he wanted to find out the ointment’s ingredients and asked for some.”

”As for the rest of the ointment and the medicinal water, I gave them to the General. His wound was poisoned, and ordinary wound ointment didn’t work.” After a moment of pause, he asked cautiously, ”Wife, are you angry?”

Yao Zhi looked at her husband in confusion and asked him back, ”Why should I be angry?”

”Well, the ointment must have cost you a lot of money, and it was very rare. I just gave it away without asking your opinion.”

”Husband, it was actually given by the divine physician I saved before. He said that if I want it, I can go find him and buy another jar. It’s just that he rarely visits the town, so I don’t know if I can meet him again,” Yao Zhi replied with a sigh.

Fu Chen’an didn’t feel disappointed when he heard her words. Taking out an envelope from his clothes, he handed it to her and said, ”The General said that as long as we bring this letter to the General’s mansion, his wife will compensate us for the ointment and medicinal jar.”

Since he couldn’t leave the barracks without permission, Yao Zhi accepted the letter and said, ”I will send the letter when I go to the town.”

”Mhm, no rush.”

The two of them took an hour to finish their lunch. When they were done, there was still half a pot of chicken soup and half a jar of steamed vegetable rice.

Yao Zhi covered the pot and jar while saying, ”Husband, do you want to bring this back?”

Thinking about his friends’ words, Fu Chen’an nodded and said, ”Okay.” Before leaving, he added, ”Wife, the General gave us permission for you to visit me. You can come anytime you want.”

”Can I visit you every day?” Yao Zhi asked.

As soon as he heard this, a smile appeared on Fu Chen’an’s face. He nodded and said, ”Of course. But if you are tired, you don’t have to visit me. The kitchen prepares food for the soldiers. I can just eat there.”

”Okay. If I can’t come, I will let you know in advance,” Yao Zhi nodded.

Fu Chen’an carried the pot and jar and looked at his wife. ”Be careful on the road.”

”I will.”

After saying their goodbyes, Yao Zhi held the reins, and with a whip, the donkey pulled the cart away.

Fu Chen’an stood there until he could no longer see his wife’s back. Only then did he walk to the military barracks’ entrance.

He had to undergo an inspection if he brought something from outside. So, he opened the jar and pot to show the items inside. The guards checked the dishes and couldn’t help but salivate.

When they were done, one of them said, ”Squad Leader Fu is really blessed. His wife cares about him so much.”

”If you are jealous, you should find a wife,” another guard replied.

While the 2 guards were feeling envious, a lot of people saw Fu Chen’an bring back a large pot and jar. Due to the previous dishes, the moment Cook Li heard about this, he rushed over to find him.

When he arrived at the tent, he saw a group of men devouring the food. Seeing this, he rushed over and checked the pot and jar.

Everyone was surprised by his sudden arrival. When they saw him staring at the empty pot and jar, Xiao Wei asked, ”Cook Li, why did you suddenly come here?”

Hearing this, Cook Li turned around. Seeing the half bowl of chicken soup in his hand, he snatched it away and took a large gulp.

”Cook Li, why did you snatch my soup?!” Xiao Wei exclaimed in shock.

Everyone got only a bowl of soup and a bowl of steamed rice. He was planning to savor his soup slowly. Who knew someone would snatch his soup suddenly?

Ignoring his shout, Cook Li savored the soup before he muttered softly, ”This chicken soup actually uses medicinal herbs?”

He closed his eyes and tried to recall the ingredients used. He continued smacking his lips and said, ”This is the first time I knew that medicinal food can taste so delicious.”

When everyone saw him snatching Xiao Wei’s chicken soup, they quickly finished their steamed vegetable rice and chicken soup in several large bites, lest their food be snatched away.

After he finished savoring the soup, Cook Li opened his eyes and was disappointed when he saw the empty bowls.

Seeing everyone enjoying the food made by his wife, Fu Chen’an felt proud. Since everyone had finished the meal, he packed the jar and pot and went out to wash them.

”Squad Leader Fu, please wait a moment.”

Hearing this, Fu Chen’an stopped in his tracks and asked, ”Cook Li, do you need anything?”

”Squad Leader Fu, next time your wife sends you lunch, can you save some for me?” Cook Li asked.

Fu Chen’an narrowed his eyes and asked, ”Why? Are you planning to steal my wife’s recipe?”

Knowing that he had crossed the line, Cook Li quickly waved his hand and said, ”No, no. Please don’t misunderstand.”

”Then what do you mean?”

After hesitating for a while, Cook Li finally said, ”Squad Leader Fu, lately the General hasn’t had much appetite. Physician Mu told me to prepare nourishing food to help the General recover from his wound.”

”But as you know, our ingredients are limited, and we don’t have any good-quality herbs. Even if I’m skilled, I can’t cook without ingredients.”

Raising his eyebrows, Fu Chen’an said, ”So you want to use my wife’s cooking to please the General? Are you trying to claim the credit?”

”Am I someone like that?” Cook Li was unhappy. But since he needed the other party’s help, he held back his temper.
