Chapter 93: Poisoned

Just after Fu Chen’an finished tidying up his belongings, a group of men entered the tent. Their bodies were covered with dirt and sweat, reeking of a sour odor.

When Xiao Wei saw his brother, he said, ”Chen’an, you finished your training so fast today.”

Fu Chen’an nodded but said nothing. Everyone was already used to his taciturn personality and didn’t pay any attention to him.

As the sky darkened, Fu Chen’an took a small leather pouch and a set of clean undergarments from his bamboo basket and went to the bathhouse area.

There was a well that was very deep and rarely ran out of water in the west of the military barracks. Because of this, the General decided to turn this area into a public bathhouse.

Although it was called a public bathhouse, it was actually an open area with several compartments built using wooden planks and wooden poles.

Inside the compartment, there was a water vat for the soldiers to use to bathe and a plank for them to place their washing tools. Fu Chen’an filled the water vat with well water before he entered the compartment.

After he closed the door, he undressed himself and placed his clothes on the wall. Due to his height, people could see his wide shoulders and firm chest muscles from the outside.

Due to limited materials, the wall only covered his body with a wide gap below. From the gap below, people could see his muscular calves, covered with sparse body hair.

Before, he would use a piece of fabric to rub his body and rinse the dirt from his hair with water. But this time, his wife had prepared these things for him. Now, not only did he use shampoo to wash his hair, but he also used body soap to clean the dirt and sweat.

Compared to before, it was easier to remove the dirt, sweat, and dried blood from his body. For him, a small scratch was nothing. As for the deep wound on his back, the scab has fallen off, leaving only a faint, white scar.

While he was taking a bath, the soldiers who were bathing in the next compartment smelled the faint fragrance of herbs. They took a sniff here and there before realizing the scent came from Fu Chen’an.

Looking at the foam covering his body, one of the soldiers asked, ”Squad Leader Fu, what are you using?”

Fu Chen’an gave the soldier a glance and rinsed off the foam from his body before he said, ”It’s called body soap.”

”Squad Leader Fu, it smells so good. Where did you get it?” another soldier asked curiously.

”It’s prepared by my wife,” Fu Chen’an replied as he wiped his body and put on his clothes.

The soldier looked at his skin covered in dirt and then looked at Fu Chen’an’s clean, refreshed face. The comparison was deadly.

During the training, it was inevitable for them to be covered in mud or dirt. Sometimes, they were even wounded. It was hard to clean bloodstains and dirt mixed with mud from their skin. With limited time to wash up, most of them didn’t pay too much attention to hygiene.

Before, everyone was like this, so no one felt anything was wrong. But now, with Fu Chen’an as a comparison, everyone realized how dirty they were.

Not knowing that he had made others feel uncomfortable, Fu Chen’an returned to his tent feeling refreshed. After he stored his soap in his wooden box, he went to the cafeteria for dinner.

At the same time, in the General’s tent, the military physician was cleaning the arrow wound on Lu Qianxuan’s chest.

While he was cleaning the wound, he frowned and said, ”General, due to the poison left by the arrowhead, it will take longer for your wound to heal.”

Hearing this, Lu Qianxuan let out a hum but said nothing. He already knew that something was wrong with his wound when he felt the constant burning pain there. He just didn’t expect the poison to be so hard to cure.

A few minutes later, a young man in his early twenties entered the tent while holding a bowl of freshly brewed medicine. He placed the medicine on the bedside table and said, ”General, your medicine is ready.”

The military physician used a silver needle to test the medicine and handed it over to him. ”General, please drink the medicine while it’s warm.”

Lu Qianxuan took the bowl and finished the bitter medicine in a few gulps. After he finished drinking it, the military physician took out a bottle of ointment from his medicine box.

Seeing this, the young man said, ”Master, just now I saw Squad Leader Fu coming back after he took a bath. The wound on his back was already healed.”

Hearing this, the military physician frowned and shook his head. ”Impossible. His wound was also poisoned. Even with my ointment, it will take at least two months for him to fully recover.”

”Master, I didn’t lie. His wound is really healed. There is only a faint, white scar left on his back,” the young man insisted.

When the military physician heard this, he thought for a moment before he asked, ”General, can you find out what medicine is used by Squad Leader Fu?”

Lu Qianxuan looked at him and said, ”If you want to ask, just summon him.” After he said this, he shouted, ”Guard, summon Fu Chen’an.”

”Yes, General!” a soldier replied and bowed before he left to find Fu Chen’an.

When the guard found him, he was in the middle of his meal. Seeing the half-eaten meal, the guard cupped his fists, bowed, and said, ”Squad Leader Fu, the General summoned you to his tent.”

Hearing this, Fu Chen’an nodded and turned to his friend. ”Xiao Wei, help me pack up my food.”

”Okay,” Xiao Wei agreed readily.

Following the soldier, Fu Chen’an reached the General’s tent in ten minutes. He stood outside while the guard went to report. Not long after, the guard returned and said, ”Squad Leader Fu, you can go inside.”
