Beating Instances through Words Left by the Dead

Chapter 434: Chapter 229: The Out-of-Control Enforcer_3

Having tried all other methods to no avail, he had no choice but to resort to the last way to break free from the hallucination.

And that was death.

No matter what kind of hallucination, it is built on the premise of deceiving the consciousness. If the deceived consciousness dies, no matter how real the hallucination, it will collapse.

Watching Raymond pull out a pistol and press it against his own forehead, Wu Chang couldn’t hold it in anymore. He disregarded any semblance of composure, teleporting instantly in front of Raymond and slapping the pistol out of his hand.

”I brought you here not because I really wanted to capture you for Hymn Company, but just to tell you, don’t play those little tricks on me. The most important point of cooperation is mutual equality and honesty.”

Raymond understood Wu Chang’s meaning. He struggled to steady himself and said:

”You mean, you’re willing to cooperate with me?”

Wu Chang said, ”Of course, just like you said, we have the same enemy.”

In fact, upon learning that Raymond witnessed the Player descending into the dungeon that night, he had the idea of eliminating Raymond and throwing his body to the entity in exchange for Hymn Company’s permissions.

But when Raymond suggested cooperation, he dismissed that idea.

Because his Title ”Perfectionism” reacted, and a hidden side quest was triggered.

Wu Chang said, ”There’s only you and me here, no need to worry about being overheard, we can have a good talk. What is your real purpose in dealing with Hymn Company?”

Raymond hesitated for a moment, but finally decided to trust Wu Chang.

Primarily because the situation was against him; his proudest hypnosis ability was crushed into nothing by Wu Chang, whose physique was particularly strong. Even if he used suicide to escape the hallucination, it would be difficult to escape today.

He could only choose to trust Wu Chang.

He took a deep breath and, to express his sincerity, he voluntarily removed his mask.

”My name is Raymond, and I am a double agent for the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Tax Bureau. My official identity is as the assistant to the wealthy Moritz.”

Wu Chang frowned, ”So are you here to investigate Hymn Company’s tax issues?”

Raymond first nodded, then shook his head, and said:

”Yes and no. In recent years, a large number of weapons produced by Hymn Company have appeared worldwide, including many in countries isolated by federal trade. Among them are expensive High-Energy Weapons. These weapons are smuggled goods, untaxed, and the volume is huge, far beyond what ordinary middlemen can acquire.”

”The Tax Bureau suspects Hymn Company of serious tax evasion, so they sent me to Veldo City to investigate it all.”

”But I have another identity. I am actually an agent planted in the Tax Bureau by the Central Intelligence Agency. You know, although we are all federal agencies, we aren’t of one mind, and it’s quite normal to plant spies among each other.”

”The Central Intelligence Agency took this opportunity to have me also investigate Hymn Company’s Essence Armor progress. If possible, they even want me to steal some confidential technology.”

”So I have the backing of both the Central Intelligence Agency and the Tax Bureau.”

Wu Chang roughly understood Raymond’s meaning, but it didn’t answer his question. He asked:

”If you’re only investigating tax issues and stealing technology, then why do you frequently attempt to assassinate Hymn Company’s executives?”

Raymond laughed nonchalantly and said, ”Because I’m now a rogue agent.”

Wu Chang asked, ”What do you mean?”

Raymond said, ”With the support of the Tax Bureau and the Central Intelligence Agency, combined with my abilities, things progressed even more smoothly than I imagined. Not long after I arrived in Veldo City, I managed to infiltrate Hymn Company’s important laboratory.”

”There, I saw an employee of Hymn Company being transformed, alive, into a Disqualified Monster. It was only then that I realized all the conspiracy theories were true, and Disqualified Monsters were indeed created by Hymn Company.”

”Do you know what this discovery means for a resident of Sid Town?”

”It means that as long as I can expose the true face of Hymn Company and make them pay the price, I can abandon everything, trample all the Rules, and give up any bottom line!”

A line of prompts appeared in front of Wu Chang:

”Hidden Side Quest: Help Raymond complete his revenge, uncover the truth of the Sid Town tragedy of the past, and stop Hymn Company’s real conspiracy. There is no penalty for task failure. Do you accept the task?”
